Background / History

Donald arrived on Lant Island through an inexplicable transmigration and initially regarded himself as an observer merely “playing” the role of Donald. He nevertheless formed genuine attachments to his father, Old Tom, his brother Richard, and the island community. His mother had left him a letter and keepsake before her departure. 2 6

Raised in Old Tom’s blacksmith shop, Donald spent months forging and training. He produced the Thousand-Tempered Sword, drew sophisticated diagrams, and helped Richard pursue knighthood. Lord Merkel and Professor Victor recognized abilities that the islanders overlooked because they believed Donald mute. 2 6

He left Lant Island to become Victor’s assistant, pursuing broader learning in geometry, natural history, magic, and forging. In Dorn City, he independently studied magic arrays while Victor was absorbed in research and developed a commercial arrangement with Merkel to increase production of Thousand-Tempered Swords. 6 9

Donald’s rapid magical progress brought conflict as well as opportunity. He was harassed for his commoner status, accused after stealing a magic book, and eventually entered deadly confrontations with thieves, knights, mages, and Magical Beasts. He repeatedly used research, preparation, and unconventional spell construction to overcome opponents stronger than his stated rank. 18 22 40 43

After reaching the Magic Continent, Donald focused on alchemy, beast cores, high-level arrays, and preparations for the coming Beast Tide. He accumulated resources, designed bridges and a shipyard, created cross-level magic arrays, and began shaping the concept of a Magic Empire capable of protecting Middle-earth. 279 323 341

Later, he promoted commoner magical education and pursued industrial development in Feymont. His discovery that compressed Dwarf totemic patterns could resonate with Magic Element and produce heat offered a possible solution to the Empire’s energy shortage. 422 561

Appearance

Donald is described as having delicate features, a restrained smile, and an appearance that reminded Kelly of noble portraits despite his blacksmith-family upbringing. 2

  • Initially perceived by many Lant Island residents as mute. 4 6
  • Often presents a calm, controlled expression even when internally uncertain or detached. 2
  • As a child in Jade City, he disguises himself as the middle-aged Magician “Kurich” through Illusion Magic. 657
  • Uses azure light from Azure Battle Qi when employing certain abilities. 674

Personality

Donald is intensely curious, analytical, and self-directed. Even as a child, tales of knights, dragons, magic towers, and arrays inspired investigation rather than simple excitement. He approaches magical theory, natural history, engineering, and social systems as problems to be understood. 2 9 105

He is pragmatic and secretive when knowledge could cause upheaval. After recognizing that his understanding of magic glyphs might allow ordinary people to practice magic, he chose not to reveal the discovery prematurely, fearing revolution, scarcity, and violence. 12

Donald can be ruthless under threat. He kills assassins, defeats thieves and hostile combatants decisively, and is willing to use overwhelming force to protect his interests and allies. 22 40 115 486

Despite this, he consistently shows concern for ordinary people and resists treating magical power as an end in itself. His long-term plans emphasize education, engineering, industrial capacity, and giving non-magicians a chance to live outside systems dominated by magic and Battle Qi. 361 422 584

Abilities & Skills

Elemental Magic

Donald cultivates all five conventional elements and possesses unusually pure Divine Element, making his spells substantially more powerful than those of comparable mages. 48

  • Uses wind blades, Stone Spike Spell, Flying Leaf Spell, water-fire nested magic, fireballs, and defensive magic. 40 104 115
  • Can construct magic at the instant of triggering, bypassing ordinary directional constraints. 104
  • Successfully cast a Level 5 spell at age eighteen. 105
  • Can use carefully prepared magic and arrays to bridge rank gaps against stronger Magicians. 341 435

Spirit Magic

Donald’s Sea of Consciousness developed into four dimensions after a dangerous simultaneous use of Spirit and Elemental Magic. This gave his Spirit Element directionality and improved magical efficiency. 118

  • Illusion Art — creates disguises, including his middle-aged “Kurich” persona. 118 657
  • Banshee’s Howl — incapacitates nearby targets; Donald used it to render Tidi and another companion unconscious during a crisis. 118 674
  • Can create a network avatar, “Devil Duke,” using Azure Battle Qi. 662
  • Spiritual Power can sense the structure of objects, though its early range and combat usefulness were limited. 93

Azure Battle Qi

Donald cultivates Azure Battle Qi alongside magic, using it to improve perception, timing, movement, and precision. 93 123

  • Under its effect, Donald experiences others and alchemical reactions as if they are moving in slow motion. 123
  • Supports high-precision temperature control in alchemy. 123
  • Forms the basis for his unusually effective close-combat and rapid-response capabilities. 93 227
  • Taught its principles to Rico with Gernada’s assistance, though she could not replicate all of Donald’s advantages. 147

Alchemy

Donald studied alchemy under Professor Saroman and succeeded in preparing Patri’s Blessing, a potion only a handful of living Middle-earth alchemists could produce. 118 130

  • Prepared and purified Patri’s Blessing independently. 130
  • Determined that each dose increased his Divine Element by 10%, with effects stacking until a personal limit. 130
  • Uses Battle Qi-enhanced perception to control heat-sensitive reactions. 123
  • Studied Selion’s alchemy notebook and later delegated potion preparation to Moen to focus on combat development. 115 161

Magic Arrays and Glyph Research

Donald independently studies, analyzes, and constructs magic arrays. His work combines experimental rigor with an understanding of elemental glyphs and beast cores. 9 93 289

  • Submitted fifty perfect Level 1 Flame Magic Arrays for promotion at the Magic Array Association. 279
  • Drew a complex Level 2 array that Mage Bogeng initially attributed to another student. 281
  • Created mental-element glyph protections for himself and Wesley, with plans to make one for Rico. 289
  • Developed a Level 7 magic usable by a Level 6 Magician, an unprecedented cross-level application. 341
  • Researches methods to mass-produce complex arrays using molds. 323

Engineering and Forging

Donald’s technical work ranges from weapon forging to infrastructure and industrial energy research. 6 14 279

  • Forged the Thousand-Tempered Sword and helped establish increased production through Merkel’s workshop. 6 9
  • Built a pony-powered forge machine that significantly improved workshop efficiency. 14
  • Hired and directed artisans to construct seven stone bridges, a temporary shipyard, and a ship designed with an intelligent brain’s assistance. 281 325
  • Identified Dwarf totem patterns as a potential magic-energy heat source for industrialization. 561

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Magic Staff — crafted from Dwarf Fine Steel mixed with one-quarter mithril; durable enough to potentially rival divine weapons as a physical weapon. 41
  • Magic Scrolls — carries binding scrolls such as Level 5 Green Vine Entanglement, Gale Entanglement, and Petrification Technique. 149
  • Mental-element protective robe glyph — protects against mental magic attacks. 289
  • Silver Iris badge — Donald suspects it caused his reincarnation/transmigration and links it to Saint Peter’s cryptic words. 656
  • Level 11 fire-element magic staff — received from Shayida and later dismantled for research despite its immense market value. 325

Relationships

  • Old Tom — father and blacksmith mentor; encouraged Donald to leave Lant Island and entrusted him with his mother’s letter. 6
  • Richard — younger brother; Donald forged him a sword, supported his knightly ambitions, and remained protective of him. 2 6 15
  • Kelly — childhood companion whose feelings for Donald deepen as she follows him from Lant Island to Dorn City and enters the Knight Academy. 6 14 41
  • Professor Victor — employer, mentor, and collaborator; defended Donald after the library incident and shared magic-array knowledge, though often reluctantly. 6 11 18
  • Lord Merkel — business partner in Thousand-Tempered Sword production and later an important figure in Donald’s development plans. 6 9 14
  • Wesley — close friend and fellow Magician; protected Donald early on, later reunited with him on the Magic Continent, and received Donald’s warning about its dangers. 15 105 227
  • Rico — companion and student; their relationship develops from hostility into trust and mutual respect. Donald teaches her water and wood magic, while she teaches him String Sound Steps. 115 118
  • Gernada — dwarf knight and mentor in Azure Battle Qi and magical combat theory. 93 104
  • Lisa — high-level Magician, philosophical rival, and strategic collaborator; she challenges Donald’s worldview while seeking to protect her people. 341 361 588
  • Lucia — initially distrustful of Donald after the library theft accusation, but later involved in his political and industrial plans. 18 422 561
  • Tidi — half-Gnome Freedom Party member; gradually comes to trust Donald while witnessing his abilities in Jade City. 672 674
