Using the conveniences provided by Mountain River Industries, he had commissioned this map specifically after conducting a comprehensive survey of Borneo.

Borneo, also known as Kalimantan Island, lay at the center of the map, with all manner of data clearly marked upon it.

In later generations, Borneo would be divided among three countries.

They were Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.

Indonesia occupied the largest area, with more than two-thirds of Borneo belonging to it.

Its territory was further divided into four provincial administrative regions: East Kalimantan Province, South Kalimantan Province, Central Kalimantan Province, and West Kalimantan Province.

Malaysia held somewhat less territory, divided into two provincial administrative regions: Sarawak and Sabah.

Last came the tiny nation of Brunei, squeezed between Malaysia's two states in an extremely awkward position.

After all, at the height of Brunei's glory, it had possessed the entirety of Borneo.

Malaysia's Sarawak and Sabah, together with Brunei, were collectively known as the "North Borneo Three States," abbreviated as "Sarawak-Brunei-Sabah."

If the North Borneo Three States were regarded as "North Kalimantan Province," then all of Borneo could be neatly divided into five regions: east, south, west, north, and central.

But at this point in time, all of Borneo was a colony of Britain and the Netherlands.

The four provinces that would later belong to Indonesia were Dutch colonies.

Malaysia and Brunei, meanwhile, were British colonies.

And they could be further subdivided.

Brunei was nominally still a sovereign state, but Britain had taken away all its major powers, including foreign affairs and military authority.

Sarawak was ruled by the Brooke Dynasty founded by the British, and its
