Other chief gods would do anything to bind their subordinate gods to them forever, using things like the interests of their race, mutual protection, or divine death curses, so they could work for them for all eternity.

When all was said and done, chief gods always took the biggest slice of the pie.

But that wasn't how things were with Lein.

He offered to teach them for free, and even to grant them godhood for free. As for working for him, he was genuinely willing to let them go after they'd helped him for a while.

Don't forget that Lein was a lawful deity, and his promises carried great weight.

A promise like this, practically an oath, would be watched over by the World Will.

If he really dared to keep his disciples from leaving, the World Will, acting as judge, would shift Lein's alignment.
