Downs had been acting so normal lately that Lein had let his guard down, growing complacent and assuming his eldest disciple had become much more levelheaded after advancing to the higher ranks.
It was like a fifteen-pound fat cat. Once it got that heavy, it couldn't help but act a little more dignified.
