Ahead, a huge rocky cave came into view. The area around the entrance was charred black, as if it had been scorched by blazing flames.

"This smell is kind of wrong." Su Li instinctively slowed down and hid behind a large boulder.

"Thud, thud, thud." Just then, rhythmic tremors traveled through the ground.

In the distance, a creature covered in crimson scales slowly approached.

It stood around five feet tall and was over sixteen feet long. It resembled a gigantic lizard, but two rows of flame-like spines burned along its back.

The Dragon Lizard had a mutated Wild Boar weighing nearly three hundred pounds clamped in its jaws. Its sharp fangs had effortlessly pierced the boar's thick hide.

It strode forward with elegance and majesty, like a king inspecting his territory, and headed straight into the blackened cave.

Su Li cowered behind the rock, trembling.

"That pressure is insane. And those scales... it'd be perfect as a mount! It looks cool, it can fight, and it can even breathe fire."

Though he craved it terribly, Su Li knew full well that he was not even enough to fill the gaps between its teeth.

The creature seemed not to have noticed the tiny skeleton, or perhaps it simply could not be bothered with something that had no flesh.

"Time to go, time to go. If I can't provoke it, can't I at least avoid it?" Su Li promptly chose to take a detour.

After leaving the Dragon Lizard's territory, the surrounding environment changed drastically again.

The previously normal forest vegetation quickly vanished, replaced by a crimson wasteland.

The sky was a sickly dark yellow. Enormous, grotesque Withered Trees twisted toward the heavens, and strange birdcalls drifted faintly from afar.

"Why has the art style turned back into Scarlet Rot Caelid again?" A sense of foreboding rose in Su Li's heart.

"Did I accidentally wander into a high-level area? Is this game's map really that massive?"

Just then, a bloodcurdling screech came from ahead.

It sounded like metal scraping against a blackboard, sharp enough to stab directly into the soul.

Su Li cautiously poked half his head out.

The next second, he felt as though his Soul Fire was about to go out.

Perched atop a gigantic Withered Tree in the wasteland was a horrifying monstrous bird.

It was enormous and had no feathers. Instead, its body was made of countless dried black bones and rotting flesh.

Its head resembled a massive human skull, and its spread wings blotted out the sky. It was currently lowering its head to peck at a corpse on the ground.

Visible black flames of death swirled around its body.

"WTF!!!" Su Li nearly collapsed into a pile of bones from fright.

"Death Ritual Bird?! Isn't that a minor mid-game boss? Why is it next door to the newbie village? Are the devs trying to kill all the new players?!"

The crushing sense of death bearing down on him made him afraid to even breathe too loudly.

"I got the experience, so run! Staying here one more second will shave years off my life!"

Su Li scrambled away from the terrifying place.

Only after running over two kilometers did that cold, watchful sensation finally disappear.

By then, Su Li had arrived at a swamp that looked relatively normal.

Glowing blue mushrooms grew everywhere, fireflies danced through the air, and the water was calm. The scenery was unexpectedly beautiful.

"Whew... finally, somewhere a little less hellish." Su Li let out a breath and plopped down on the ground to rest.

Annoyed, he lowered his head and raised his sword, ready to give the thing a manicure.

However, when he saw what was at his feet, the Soul Fire in Su Li's eye sockets suddenly exploded with a crackle.

"My fucking god!! You damn devs!! Why do you keep making this creepy-ass stuff?!"
