Why were they the ones sacrificing their lives, while the ones reaping the rewards were someone else?
They had such short lives to begin with, yet they were still being wasted, treated as cannon fodder and sent charging into battle.
"Tell me, why? Why are you fighting for the Thousand Tree family? Shouldn't you be fighting for yourselves?" the homunculus girl demanded.
The homunculi who heard her question shook their heads blankly.
They were merely tools. How could they possibly know why?
Thinking of Shirou's words, she gathered her courage and tried to prove her point. "Assassin said that people should fight for themselves and live for themselves. They can't let others waste their lives on meaningless battles, and then, and then..."
She got stuck.
She was too nervous to speak.
The homunculi who saw her stumble finally snapped out of it. One of them, apparently their leader, said, "Seize her! Don't let her deceive you—"
"Ha, hahaha—lackeys of the oppressors, to speak such vulgar words to one who seeks to save your brethren." Spartacus opened his eyes. His sheer majesty startled the homunculus soldiers, and they even made way for Berserker, as though clearing him a path.
Seeing this, the homunculus girl hurried toward Spartacus.
"Will you enter into a contract with me?" The homunculus girl drew her sword and thrust it at Spartacus.
Miraculously, the sword did not harm Berserker. Instead, it freed him from his restraints.
"Though it is an unacceptable relationship of servitude, still—"
"It isn't servitude. It's partnership. It's... comradeship."
To make her words more convincing, the homunculus girl added, "That's what Assassin said."
"Hahaha—then come, comrade! Let us charge together!"
Author's Note:
Exam week is so irritating... Exams in the morning and afternoon, studying at noon, and then I'm stuck on the plot...
