Background / History

Jiang Li is Dong Zhenghao's second wife. She knew he had a daughter from his first marriage, Liu Mumu, before marrying him; Liu Mumu's sudden return therefore threatens Jiang Li's expectations for her own children's future inheritance. 2

For years, Jiang Li lived with her mother-in-law, Wang Guixiang, who treated Jiang Li and Dong Yue as freeloaders, ordered them around, and favored Dong Zhenghao and Dong Qi. Jiang Li resented Wang Guixiang and privately considered moving to a newer, larger villa after her death. 2

When Dong Zhenghao brings Liu Mumu home, Jiang Li suppresses her anger because he has made the decision unilaterally. She assigns Liu Mumu a spare room, privately believing the newcomer will regret moving in. 4

Appearance

Jiang Li presents herself as affluent and refined in public. At Guangrong Mall, she wears an expensive skirt and high heels, carries a bag valued at one hundred thousand, and is described as walking like a noblewoman on inspection. 11

Personality

Jiang Li is highly conscious of social standing, appearances, and the division of the Dong family’s wealth. Liu Mumu's return initially makes her feel threatened, particularly because Jiang Li believes the inheritance should principally belong to Dong Qi. 2 20

She is capable of restraint when Dong Zhenghao is present, but privately vents to Jiang Jia and considers ways to deal with Liu Mumu. Jiang Jia criticizes her for only bullying those close to her and for failing to handle Liu Mumu directly. 7

Although initially hostile to Liu Mumu, Jiang Li gradually becomes wary of her divination and ability to bring misfortune. By the time Jiang Jia seeks support after Zhan Hongye’s death, Jiang Li prioritizes her own safety over sisterly loyalty and distances herself from Jiang Jia. 20

Jiang Li is protective of Dong Qi and frequently excuses his behavior, though she eventually accepts Dong Zhenghao and Liu Mumu’s decision to leave him with her parents after he runs away. 6 37 She can also be sharp-tongued and confrontational with Dong Zhenghao, especially during their arguments over Dong Qi and money. 36 94

Liu Mumu's Return

Jiang Li is present when Wang Guixiang asks Dong Zhenghao to find his lost daughter. She reacts with disgust because the matter revives Dong Zhenghao’s past marriage and introduces a possible claimant to the family estate. 2

After Wang Guixiang dies upon seeing Liu Mumu, Jiang Li initially assumes Dong Zhenghao will reject Liu Mumu. Instead, he brings her home and orders Jiang Li to prepare a room for her. 3 4

Efforts to Marginalize Liu Mumu

Jiang Li supports Dong Qi during his early conflicts with Liu Mumu and attempts to frame Liu Mumu’s comments about inheritance as improper. 6

Alongside Jiang Jia, she treats Liu Mumu’s arrival as a possible source of the Dong family’s misfortunes. Jiang Jia and Zhan Hongye arrange for Master Ning to read Liu Mumu’s fate, while Jiang Li later asks Master Ning to calculate Dong Zhenghao’s destiny. 6 10 11

Master Ning labels Liu Mumu the “Star of Solitude,” claiming her fate harms relatives. Jiang Li questions whether the judgment is too harsh, though she does not openly reject it. 11

Break with Jiang Jia

After Zhan Hongye’s death and Jiang Jia’s loss of status in the Zhan family, Jiang Li initially comforts her sister. However, Liu Mumu’s previous warning and Jiang Jia’s continued hostility lead Jiang Li to dismiss her and advise her to rely on the properties Zhan Hongye had already given her. 20

Jiang Li later attends Zhan Hongye’s funeral with her family, where her parents pressure Dong Zhenghao to help Jiang Jia. The event further strains Jiang Li’s relationship with both her sister and parents. 21

Dong Qi and the Dream Gu Incident

Jiang Li repeatedly defends Dong Qi during conflicts with Dong Zhenghao over his poor grades, spending, and running away from home. 36 37

When Dong Qi goes to stay with her parents, Jiang Li initially does not rush to retrieve him. Her parents subsequently take “miracle medicine” connected to the Dream Gu incident. 37 41

Dong Zhenghao's Pollution Incident

While in Jing City, Jiang Li and Dong Zhenghao have a violent argument after Dong Zhenghao becomes emotionally unstable under an external influence. Jiang Li asks Liu Mumu for help when he threatens her and throws a teacup at Liu Mumu. 89

She assists the Special Case Division by identifying the water-filled agate ornament in their room and revealing that Dong Zhenghao had recently been meeting Liu Dafu. 90

After Dong Zhenghao is hospitalized, Jiang Li is visibly distressed and angrily blames Liu Dafu for harming him. 91
