Under her relentless coaxing, the group finally left.
Yun Luo shook her head, walked into the courtyard, and knocked on the water curtain.
"Pei Yanqing, it's me."
The person inside sensed it was her and immediately withdrew the water curtain and the warding formation.
As Yun Luo entered, she happened to see the flush fading from his neck.
Well, there was no need to guess how lewdly her senior and junior sisters had been talking.
She took a Jade Pendant from her sleeve and held it out to him.
"My master asked me to give you this Gongjia Token. You can use it to check on the progress of the Chengying Sword's repairs."
The Gongjia Token was a standard Magic Artifact for Artifact Refiners. Markings were engraved on the Jade Pendant, and once it was linked to a Spirit Artifact being forged or repaired, it would display the progress.
"Thank you."
Pei Yanqing took the token. His cool fingertips brushed across her palm, and every muscle in her body tensed at once.
She couldn't help recalling how Pei Yanqing had seemed ready to die on top of her in the cave. A tingle of desire stirred in her.
I want to Dual Cultivate so badly.
"The Chengying Sword will take a month to repair. In the meantime, are you going back to the Qinglian Sword Sect, or staying at the Hehuan Sect?"
Yun Luo left the courtyard with him. The fellow disciples in the distance kept turning to look at them.
Afraid of hearing more racy remarks, Pei Yanqing quickened his pace.
"I'll find a good place to cultivate in seclusion."
So he wasn't going back to the Qinglian Sword Sect.
Yun Luo: Don't just cultivate in seclusion. Cultivate something a little more... stimulating, too.
Earlier, Mu He had taken her back to Lingxi Peak and given her a thorough talking-to.
"There aren't many cultivators who can satisfy your needs for Dual Cultivation. Pei Yanqing would make a fine candidate for a long-term partner."
She thought that made perfect sense. When she looked at Pei Yanqing again, her gaze was no longer innocent.
She had to find a way to do it with him again.
Yun Luo hurried a few steps to walk beside him.
"The Immortal Mountains around here all belong to the Hehuan Sect. The mountains beyond the sect don't forbid outside cultivators from practicing, but some are places where the sect grows spirit plants or raises Spirit Beasts. Outsiders aren't allowed to approach them casually. How about I show you the way and find somewhere quiet where no one will disturb you?"
Pei Yanqing hadn't wanted to trouble her.
But on second thought, relations between the Hehuan Sect and the Qinglian Sword Sect were already tense.
If he accidentally trespassed into a forbidden area and caused needless friction between the two sects, it would hardly be worth it.
"Sorry for the trouble."
So Yun Luo rode her sword ahead while Pei Yanqing followed behind, flying on the wind.
Now that he had reached Spirit Transformation, he no longer needed a Spirit Sword to fly.
She had only ever seen him Ride the sword before. This was her first time seeing him fly like this, and envy crept into her eyes.
All five of her Spiritual Roots had to reach the Nascent Soul stage before she could advance to Spirit Transformation. Who knew how many years that would take?
Her frequent glances caught Pei Yanqing's attention.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
Yun Luo was about to explain when panting and soft moans suddenly drifted up from below.
She looked down and realized that beneath them lay the very Immortal Mountain where the Dual Cultivation cave dwellings had been built.
Pei Yanqing's spiritual sense picked up far more than his ears could hear.
His expression stiffened, and the pink at the tips of his ears gave away the turmoil inside him.
Was this the place those female cultivators had said people could come and watch?
Had Yun Luo brought him here because...
He stopped at once, feeling both angry and annoyed, along with a trace of emotion he couldn't quite name.
Yun Luo noticed no one was behind her. When she turned around, she found him hovering nearly a mile away.
She turned her Black Iron Sword around and flew back.
"What's wrong?"
Pei Yanqing's gaze was difficult to read. After a moment, he looked down at the mountain below, his eyes dark.
"Do you want to stay here?" Yun Luo tugged at his sleeve and tried to pull him onto her sword.
"This place won't do. It's where the sect's disciples go for Dual Cultivation. Outsiders can't stay here alone. We still have a long way to go."
Pei Yanqing didn't resist, and she pulled him onto the Black Iron Sword in one smooth motion.
Once he realized he'd misunderstood her, his face flushed scarlet with embarrassment.
Fortunately, he was standing behind Yun Luo, so she didn't see.
After flying a hundred li, Yun Luo stopped beside a towering cliff.
Mountains enclosed the area on three sides, and the spiritual energy was abundant. It was an excellent place to cultivate in seclusion.
Pei Yanqing thanked her, then summoned an ordinary Spirit Sword and began carving out a cave dwelling.
Since it was only temporary, he kept the cave simple.
As he set up the ward, he said to Yun Luo:
"Thank you for bringing me here. Everything is settled now, so you can head back."
Yun Luo didn't leave. She simply stared straight at him.
"Is there something else, fellow Daoist?"
Her gaze suddenly burned with intensity. "Pei Yanqing, would you be willing to Dual Cultivate with me?"
"..."
Pei Yanqing's hand trembled as he formed the hand seal, and the half-finished ward fell apart.
"You..."
"Not physically. Mentally."
Yun Luo took his hand and explained, "When we Dual Cultivated last time, you helped me break through Foundation Establishment. But you were too nourishing, and I reached the Foundation Establishment Middle Stage in one go. My spiritual soul, though, hasn't caught up, so I need to connect with you through Soul Communication."
She spoke in the most serious tone imaginable, despite saying something that made one's cheeks burn and heart race.
Pei Yanqing looked at the hand she held, his Adam's apple bobbing.
"Does it have to be me?"
With a beauty looking at her like that, Yun Luo suddenly lost her resolve to lie.
"W-Well, not necessarily. If you don't want to, I can find someone else."
The sect's rules required both parties to be willing.
She had politely asked for his consent. If he refused, she couldn't force him.
With that, she let go of his hand and prepared to leave on her sword.
"Wait!"
A hand suddenly closed around hers.
Pei Yanqing's gaze swept quickly across her face. He released her wrist, his voice tight.
"Just this once."
He tried to convince himself that this was a token of gratitude for her introducing him to Elder Jinghong, and not because he couldn't bear the thought of her doing it with someone else...
The corners of Yun Luo's mouth curved slightly.
So he liked playing hard to get.
Inside the cave dwelling, which had been given a modest but polished makeover.
The stone walls of the circular pool at its center had been smoothed until they gleamed.
Steam curled up from the warm Spirit Spring, and white mist swirled above the pool.
A hazy veil of mist shrouded the entire cave dwelling.
In the pool, Yun Luo and Pei Yanqing sat facing each other.
Their white Inner Garments were soaked through and clung tightly to their bodies, revealing glimpses of their luminous skin.
Pei Yanqing kept his gaze fixed on the space between Yun Luo's brows, refusing to let it drop even an inch.
"Does it really have to be like this?"
Yun Luo shifted slightly, her knee brushing lightly against his thigh.
His body leaned back against his will.
"Of course." Yun Luo lifted her hand, and Spirit Spring water slid down her forearm.
"Taking off our clothes would work better, but you probably wouldn't agree. So we can only sit in the Spirit Spring, where it'll be easier to absorb the spiritual energy."
Pei Yanqing had never Dual Cultivated with anyone else, nor had he ever read any Cultivation Techniques on the subject.
Her explanation sounded reasonable, so he believed every word.
"Then let's begin."
He sat up straight, waiting for Yun Luo to make a move.
Yun Luo leaned forward. In the blink of an eye, their faces were less than an inch apart.
He was already pressed against the stone wall. There was nowhere left to retreat, and all he could do was watch Yun Luo's face draw closer and closer.
It seemed their lips might meet at any moment.
Yun Luo's gaze paused on his perfectly shaped lips. Pei Yanqing swallowed nervously.
She could kiss him at any moment.
