Mingzhu University, Qingdou Hall.
Cheng Xiaoyu stood in the area reserved for Shadow students, his arms resting on the railing as he lazily watched the arena below, letting out a sigh.
He had originally thought that obtaining the other two materials in the Demon City would go smoothly. As it turned out, he had conquered three more areas, but after killing the BOSS, no materials dropped. The remaining areas were marked as inaccessible due to insufficient level, so he had no choice but to leave for now.
As expected, such rare materials were truly difficult to obtain. The road to saving Mom was still a long and arduous one!
However, it wasn't without its rewards. He had obtained several items from killing the BOSS, similar to equipment in a game. Once equipped, they didn't manifest physically, but they increased his attribute values and provided remarkably impressive effects.
The most significant item was one that dropped from the Giant Demon, named the Greed Orb. Carrying it could double the power of his magic.
But for him right now, it wasn't of much use. After all, neither of his two elements were powerful destructive magic. It would be a different story if he could awaken the Lightning Element or Fire Element at the High Level...
"Are you... Brother Xiaoyu?"
Suddenly, a voice filled with pleasant surprise reached him. Cheng Xiaoyu turned his head and discovered it was his younger sister's two classmates, Mu Nujiao and Aitutu.
The two young women were wearing their Mingzhu University uniforms, their exquisite faces and delicate, curvaceous figures looking as if they had been sculpted.
Beneath their pleated skirts were pairs of snow-white, slender legs encased in black thigh-high stockings, which accentuated their perfect leg shapes to the fullest.
The other one wore calf-length socks, covering her dainty calves while revealing her smooth, rounded thighs.
The sound of their small leather shoes clicking against the floor tugged at the heartstrings of any man nearby.
"Oh, it's you two. Welcome to Mingzhu University... By the way, there was another one named Tingting, right?"
"Yeah, she joined the Healing Element. It's a pity Xinxia didn't come to Mingzhu University with us. I wonder how she's doing at Zhejiang Academy."
"Don't worry. I pulled some strings, and Xinxia will be able to take care of herself."
The teacher had called personally, and the Dean of Zhejiang Academy had already made arrangements for Ye Xinxia. Her roommates were kind and reliable girls who would certainly look after her in daily life.
Besides, after using the Repair Potion for three years, her legs were almost fully recovered. She would likely be able to abandon her wheelchair entirely by next year.
"That's great!"
Aitutu clapped her hands happily, and Mu Nujiao also breathed a sigh of relief. She assumed Cheng Xiaoyu must have asked President Xiao for help, and she subsequently asked, "Brother Xiaoyu, do you want to participate in the Beast Fighting Competition today?"
"Haha, I'm already a student of the Main Campus. I'm just here to join in the fun today."
Cheng Xiaoyu shook his head. The main reason he was here was that he had learned from President Xiao that there was a genius among this year's freshmen who was naturally dual-system. That was how he found out it was Mo Fan, so he came to see just how far this guy had progressed in his cultivation.
It seemed he had chosen to spend a year in "precipitation" before entering university. After reaching the Intermediate Level, he was cultivating four elements simultaneously. Without any powerful background or influence behind him, could he really keep up with the pace?
If President Xiao hadn't said it himself, Cheng Xiaoyu wouldn't have believed that someone could possess four elements at the Intermediate Level. But then again, strange things had happened to him as well, so he wasn't all that surprised...
After watching the entire Beast Fighting Competition, Cheng Xiaoyu was left wondering how Mo Fan cultivated; he must have had some sort of fortuitous encounter.
He offered a few words of comfort to Mu Nujiao, who had failed despite being the final hope, then left Qingdou Hall and returned home.
Looking at his cold, empty apartment, Cheng Xiaoyu couldn't help but sigh. He planned to visit Hangcheng to see his younger sister during the holidays, then threw himself wholeheartedly into his Meditation.
"Brother Xiaoyu, come quickly! A job just came in."
Following the location sent by Leng Lingling, Cheng Xiaoyu arrived at the rooftop of a residential building. Seeing the little girl sitting on the edge, swinging her legs clad in white silk stockings, he scooped her down with a huff of annoyance.
"Sigh, I have a train ticket for tomorrow, you really know how to boss people around."
"Hmph, I don't care. Who told you not to take me along the last few times?"
"Don't you have school?"
Leng Lingling attacked Cheng Xiaoyu with her twin ponytails, then proceeded to explain what had happened today.
Hearing this, Cheng Xiaoyu nodded, roughly understanding the situation.
"It's bad, that woman has started Shedding Skin, Brother Xiaoyu!"
"I know."
Without the slightest hesitation, he jumped straight off the roof, blending into the darkness.
Upon rushing into the garden, he caught sight of a humanoid monster at a glance.
It was a strange, woman-shaped creature covered in green scales, possessing extremely sharp claws and a mouth several times larger than a normal person's. Its teeth were jagged, its long tongue extended all the way to its neck, and its pupils flickered with a blood-red light.
When the Scale-skinned Mother Demon saw the human appear, it revealed a greedy smile, as if it had discovered a delicious piece of prey.
[Skill: Killing Intent]
Cheng Xiaoyu let out a cold snort, his eyes filled with chill, and a dense wave of Killing Intent surged toward the Scale-skinned Mother Demon.
In an instant, the Scale-skinned Mother Demon's body shuddered. It stared at Cheng Xiaoyu with a terrified expression, unable to believe that it could actually fear a human, as if a terrifying entity were standing right before it!
The next second, the human vanished from where he stood. The monster felt pain erupt all over its body and let out a miserable, agonizing shriek.
The scream cut off abruptly. Deep blade marks appeared all over the Scale-skinned Mother Demon, and its scales fell off as if it were being skinned. A naked woman covered in slime appeared, collapsing limply onto the lawn.
Shortly after, a faint, ghostly blue firefly-like light drifted out from the corpse, obediently floating into the palm of Cheng Xiaoyu's hand.
A Commander Level Essence. My luck seems pretty good today...
He then tossed the Essence into the shadow on the ground. Things like Remnant Souls and Essences could be fed to the Shadow Legion. Aside from taking them out to hunt demons, this was likely the fastest way to level them up.
Leng Lingling's voice came through the earpiece, her tone exceptionally urgent.
"Brother Xiaoyu, the man in the bedroom was supposed to be Shedding Skin, but now he seems to have suddenly fainted."
"It's fine. I killed the female demon. It seems both members of the couple were parasitized. With that, the commission can be considered complete."
Cheng Xiaoyu took a blanket out of his Spatial Ring, wrapped the woman's naked body in it, and carried her in his arms as he left the scene.
After collecting his share of the money, he didn't stay in Modu any longer and headed straight for Hangcheng.
Although he had his teacher's instructions, life outside of school was another matter. Knowing that Tang Yue and Leng Qing both worked in Hangcheng, Cheng Xiaoyu asked the two women to look after things whenever they had some spare time.
Sigh, little sister, your older brother has sacrificed a lot for you. Debts of favor are not easy to repay...
When Winter Break arrived, Cheng Xiaoyu brought Ye Xinxia back home so the siblings could spend the New Year together.
As luck would have it, once the mandatory first-semester dormitory stay ended, Mu Nujiao and Aitutu rented an apartment next door, and Bai Tingting moved in with them as well.
With this, Ye Xinxia was not lacking for playmates, which brought Cheng Xiaoyu a sense of relief. They really are good classmates.
They really are good classmates, actually finding ways to move in right next door to my house. If I'm at home, it's one thing, but once I go to school, won't that leave my older brother all alone at home!
On the surface, Ye Xinxia appeared very happy, but deep down, she felt quite bitter.
Damn it, I really am a useless younger sister...
