Because he sensed someone behind him, Manuel Boar's body stiffened. He raised his head, only then realizing that the second person in the Fourth Floor room was no longer where he had been.
At that spot, there was only an extinguished candle, strange marks on the wooden floor, and remnants of green flame.
Where was that youngster?
Could that youngster be behind him?
But how had he appeared behind him in the blink of an eye, right before his eyes?
No matter how fast that youngster was, he couldn't possibly do something like that!
Manuel Boar stiffly turned around. A scarlet eye met his gaze. Within that scarlet glow, a golden vertical pupil reflected his face like a mirror, as if telling him that his death was near.
Below that eye were terrifying fangs and spine-chilling dragon scales.
What stood behind him was not human at all!
It was a dragon!
Then what was resting on his left shoulder...
Manuel Boar glanced over, and it felt as though his heart had lodged in his throat. Resting on his left shoulder was one of the dragon claw's talons.
It simply rested on his shoulder.
Yet the steel armor on his shoulder, forged by a dwarven master and heated with volcanic lava, had already been sliced apart by the dragon claw as easily as tofu.
The dragon claw cut through his armor, his padded clothes, and his shirt, then sliced through his skin.
Manuel Boar had no doubt that if the dragon behind him exerted even a little force, his arm would be torn alive from its socket.
Manuel Boar swallowed hard. He tried to maintain his original posture, not daring to provoke the dragon. "Hearthstone Witch, why is there a dragon in your room?"
"He isn't something you can control!"
"Who is he...?"
The Hearthstone Witch shot him a contemptuous look. "The dragon behind you—no, Your Grace behind you—is the youngster you previously dismissed as insignificant."
"Ah!" A strange sound came from behind Manuel Boar, frightening him so badly that he released the hand-and-a-half sword in his hand and let it fall to the floor.
This was a dragon.
A mere knight could never possibly fight an existence like this.
The moment Manuel realized that a dragon stood behind him, he gave up all will to fight.
He only felt that he was the unluckiest knight in the world. Why was there a dragon standing behind him?
Any knightly code about never turning one's back on an enemy could be thrown away now. This was no longer a question of whether he should fight; he seemed destined to die.
One moment ago, he had thought he was about to rise to greatness. The next, he had plunged into the abyss.
The Hearthstone Witch watched the dragon Yveta had transformed into with terror. This dragon had six Purple-Red wings on his back.
As a witch, her high Mental Power allowed her to sense Yveta's terror more clearly at this moment.
In her spiritual perception, Yveta was even more terrifying.
A natural pressure stronger than [Fear Aura] had formed around Yveta. It was like a vortex, or a black hole, creating boundless suction that drew everyone's gaze toward him.
In other words, Manuel had not turned to look behind him of his own accord. He had been forcibly drawn to do so.
Like a ship near a deep-sea whirlpool, he could only be forced toward a bottomless hollow in the ocean, stepping into death in absolute despair like a puppet on strings.
The Hearthstone Witch also saw a terrifying giant beast hanging upside down behind Yveta, with six Purple-Red wings. Within Yveta's dragon body, an even more terrifying existence seemed to be hidden.
This dragon body was merely a vessel for that terror, a disguise.
Why had a Magic Awakening Ritual that was only half complete given birth to such a terrifying existence?
Could it be because six gods' names had been written down?
The witch was terrified to death. She wanted to strangle the foolish Manuel Boar. You had actually caused the demon god to lose control to this extent.
She was going to be dragged down with him and die.
The Old Witch stiffly turned to look at the six extinguished candles, her mind racing as she considered how to escape.
But how could she possibly escape from such a terrifying dragon?
What should she do now?
The dragon suddenly lifted Manuel Boar. The poor knight's once-shining armor melted from the heat of the dragon claw, turning into liquid and dripping onto the wooden floor.
"Mortals..."
Manuel Boar was terrified beyond measure. His will to survive made him beg nonstop. "I... Spare me. I'll never be a warrior again."
"Spare me."
"I'll farm, fish, and hunt. I'll never hold a sword again..."
"Mortals~" 'Yveta's' eyes looked at the man. At this moment, he seemed infinitely enlarged, becoming a dragon that held up the heavens, while Manuel Boar had become a tiny ant.
"Mortals, speak your name..."
Mortals, speak your name!
Mortals, speak your name!
The words echoed endlessly beside Manuel Boar's ears. He suddenly realized that things might be even more complicated than he had imagined. What dragon was this? This might be an evil god!
Could it be that the Hearthstone Witch had been conducting a ritual to summon an evil god in this room?!
And now the evil god had successfully descended!
But he could not think any further. Under the coercion of those words, he was forced to say, "My name is Manuel Boar."
After saying those words, he felt unbearable agony and began vomiting blood madly.
At first, the blood was red. Then it turned blue. After a while, it turned green.
In truth, his internal organs were undergoing earth-shaking changes. Having reached the limit of a Formal Knight, he possessed three extraordinary organs.
But these extraordinary organs rapidly withered and underwent frenzied, abnormal changes. His liver and kidneys soon became completely unrecognizable.
Then his Extraordinary Heart, which housed the Seed of Life, began growing deformities resembling dragon arms, dragon wings, and a dragon tail amid the mutation. Even dragon scales started growing over his heart.
Manuel Boar grabbed the scales growing from his arm in horror. He did not know what was happening, but it was utterly disastrous.
His entire body was collapsing, and his blood was changing.
The dragon holding him was turning him into another kind of creature, as if transforming him into the servant species of some higher existence.
Meanwhile, amid these horrifying changes, the Old Witch had been frightened into silence.
Suddenly, a mutation occurred in the dragon's arm that held Manuel Boar. A bolt of lightning abnormally shot out from his shoulder.
A regretful expression appeared in the dragon's terrifying eyes, as though he lamented something.
Then he exerted a little force, and Manuel Boar was crushed into meat paste.
At the same time, the room's door suddenly shut on its own. The candles that had already gone out began burning again one by one. The remaining green flames suddenly surged, then transformed into purple spirit fire.
The Old Witch said in astonishment, "The ritual... has been reversed. It had already failed, yet the outcome was reversed."
The dragon walked to the center of the ritual, picked up the potion on the ground, and drank it.
Then large patches of scales fell from his body, and his wings vanished outright. His body gradually regressed from that of a true dragon into a human's, though dragon-like traits still remained.
The heavily twisted Tree of Life Spiritual Energy on the ground suddenly flipped over. Its top was now where its end had been, while its former top had become the bottom.
Yet after flipping over, the Tree of Life Spiritual Energy regained its balance and returned to its original tree-like shape.
Its color also changed from Blood Red to a pure purple.
Yveta knelt halfway to the ground and clutched his head. "What happened just now? Destructive urges kept pouring out from the depths of my heart."
"Where is the enemy? Where is the enemy?"
The witch hurried over and said ingratiatingly, "Your Grace, you displayed tremendous might just now..."
"That overconfident fool has already died by your hand..."
Yveta swept a confused glance over the witch. No, he had no memory of what had happened just now.
He felt as though he had fallen asleep, and then a voice had kept calling out to him, telling him not to sleep. Once he fell asleep, he would never wake up again.
When he was about to awaken, that voice began growing weaker again.
By the time he had fully regained consciousness, the voice had vanished.
He looked over Manuel's shattered corpse.
Had he killed that guy just now?
That wasn't right.
No.
He had definitely been unconscious just now.
Then who had been fighting?
Had he hired someone to fight for him?
Yveta looked toward the names of the six god-kings on the Tree of Life Spiritual Energy. This was the first time those names had appeared in this world.
The mutation just now must have been related to those six names.
Fortunately, his Magic Awakening Ritual had finally succeeded.
The witch remembered that several other knights had also charged upstairs, but she did not know where they were now.
So she went to open the door, only to witness a terrifying scene.
There were indeed three Formal Knights outside, but they were all dead.
Their horses had vanished somewhere, but the three knights remained on the stairs in crawling postures. Like pilgrims, they stretched out their right hands, trying to touch the Wooden Door of the Fourth Floor.
Their bodies had turned to charcoal, and the expressions on their dead faces were filled with terror.
Only traces of Dragon Flame remained on their bodies.
In an instant, deeper fear arose in the Old Witch's heart toward the demon god beside her.
