| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Founding blood-red flame | 84 85 | Human tribes and witches created a new law to resist the Children of the Forest and the Great Redwood Tree Sea Law. The Eastern Three Witches sacrificed their bodies, souls, spirituality, and devilish power to strengthen it. |
| Ancient Civilization form | 230 | Its fuel shifted from captives and slaves to gladiators’ blood as Ambrose adopted institutions brought by the Ancient Civilization. Its color became paler and its evil aura diminished. |
| Feudal re-ignition | 230 | Four hundred years before Yveta’s era, Igniter Alkusi and Anna reignited it during a feudal transition by using serfs buried in intact tombs as firewood. |
| Commercial-era decline | 230 231 | Urbanization, civil war, Anna’s modified Redwood Tree Sea Law, and the suppression of the demon “us” depleted its reserves. Its new firewood became money, estimated at 40,000–50,000 gold pounds to mature. |
| Golden resurgence | 449 | Gold invested by Ambrose’s people caused it to burn fiercely and turn golden, restoring farmland and waterways while suppressing disease and redwood forests. |
Background / History
The Thousand Year Fire originated in Ambrose as a human-made law opposing the Children of the Forest and their Great Redwood Tree Sea Law. It was formed from Law Seeds of the Universal Law of the Planetary Civilization, ignited beneath redwood embers through the combined blood, willpower, sacrifice, and unity of human leaders and witches. 84 85
The Eastern Three Witches of the Civilization of Fire entered the nascent flame, permanently integrating their spirituality and devilish power into it. The five tribal leaders then swore that their bloodlines and slaves would serve the Mortal King selected by the Fire; betrayal of that oath would result in being consumed by the flames and turned into a servant. 85 107
The Fire helped humanity defeat the Children of the Forest. For five hundred years after its ignition, no new redwood seedlings appeared in Ambrose, and the unified human army eventually deprived the Children of the Forest of their territory and influence. 85
Its nature changes alongside Ambrose’s civilization. Earlier incarnations were fueled by human captives, slaves, and gladiators; later incarnations relied on the dead being buried according to feudal customs. By Yveta’s era, commercial development had changed its required fuel to wealth rather than human lives. 230 231
Appearance
The Thousand Year Fire most commonly manifests as a floating flame, but its color and aura vary according to its historical condition and the civilization sustaining it. Its outer world appears as an orange ocean of flames compressed into liquid form. 112
- Blood red — its original form after the Eastern Three Witches’ sacrifice; associated with bloodshed and early tribal civilization. 85 196
- Pale or ordinary flame — an evolved form associated with later civilizations and the Fire of Law familiar to Yveta. 230
- Orange — a wild, overbearing manifestation seen in an Ancient Civilization arena. 197
- Golden — its revived state after Ambrose poured gold into it. 449
- Crown imagery — its authority can manifest through the Crown of Flames, marked by the emblem of the five original tribes. 109 114
Abilities & Functions
Regional Law of Ambrose
The Thousand Year Fire is the law that dominated Ambrose for centuries and acts as a force favoring human civilization over hostile non-human powers. 109
- Suppresses the power of Children of the Forest priests within Ambrose. 47
- Rejects non-human races as part of its original purpose. 84
- Can burn devilish power on contact. 198
- Can suppress ice magic and necromancy when wielded through Yveta’s fire magic. 359
- Its power wanes when its fuel, reserves, or connection to Ambrose’s changing civilization becomes unstable. 81 230
Igniter Selection and Trials
The Thousand Year Fire chooses potential Igniters to seek a way to continue its flames. Yveta and Gasroter were both selected as candidates. 112
- Subjects candidates to trials involving judgment, historical visions, and spiritual worlds. 112 198
- Allows an Igniter to judge certain traitors and Fire Servants. 112 113
- Bestowed the Flame Giant’s fire and the Eight-Headed Fire Python’s fire upon Yveta after his judgment. 113
- Granted Yveta a fragment of the Crown of Flames, leaving a fire crown within his left eye. 114
- Offers a great reward to an Igniter capable of truly reigniting it. 114
- Its trials are highly lethal; Princess Arthas states that only one in a thousand chosen candidates survives. 108
Law of Fire Servants
The Thousand Year Fire punishes betrayal by consuming souls and transforming offenders into Fire Servants, including Fire Devils. 107 114
- A Guardian Fire Family descendant who attempted to extinguish the flames became the Fire Devil, enslaved by the law he betrayed. 107 113
- Repeated death and resurrection within the Fire eventually strips a person of humanity and leaves behind a Fire Devil. 114
- It normally resurrects an Igniter only once, since repeated resurrection of an innocent would violate its own law by making them a servant. 114
- The Fire Devil embodies the Thousand Year Fire’s aggressiveness and can channel its destructive authority. 107
Civilizational Renewal
The Fire’s fuel and characteristics change with Ambrose’s social order rather than remaining fixed. 230
- Primitive tribal Ambrose sustained it with captives and slaves. 230
- The Ancient Civilization sustained it with gladiators’ blood. 230
- Feudal Ambrose sustained it through serfs’ souls returning home through intact burials. 230
- The current commercial era sustains it through money and gold. 231 449
- When revived with gold, it renewed rivers and farmland, weakened redwood forests, eliminated insect plagues, and burned away the Black Death in Ambrose. 449
Relationships
- Eastern Three Witches — Their sacrifice became part of the Thousand Year Fire; they remain within it and act as its interpreters and guardians. 85 112 449

- Fire Devil — A former Guardian Fire Family descendant transformed into the Fire’s slave for attempting to betray and extinguish it. 107 113
- Mortal King — The mortal ruler selected by the Thousand Year Fire; the Fire’s law requires its Monarch to be mortal rather than a magic user. 85 449
- Children of the Forest — Historical adversaries whose priests and laws are suppressed by the Thousand Year Fire. 47 84 85
- Shadow of Fire / Bronze Mask — A being identifying itself as the accumulated karma and collective consciousness of those sacrificed for Ambrose’s civilization; it later separates from the Thousand Year Fire. 229 231
