They fought a fierce battle with numerous Death Eaters outside the Potter family home. But thanks to the ambush Moody and the others had set up in advance, the Death Eaters had clearly been caught off guard and were driven back step by step.
"But then, the one whose name must not be spoken appeared." Moody paused for a moment.
"The Dark Lord?" "Voldemort showed up too?" Augusta and Lily exclaimed in shock.
Moody nodded and continued. "Yes. Just as the Death Eaters were being surrounded, the Dark Lord came to their aid. His magic was incredibly powerful—the kind you could feel from a distance, even when he wasn't casting a spell. Not long after he arrived, he used Fiendfyre to summon a giant serpent of flame and attack us."
"While we were busy defending ourselves, Dumbledore arrived too. We'd planned for this beforehand: he would keep watch for the Dark Lord. So when Voldemort appeared, Dumbledore was able to provide support right away. He cast a powerful spell that looked like Finite Incantatem, dispersing the Fiendfyre, and then fought the Dark Lord. But everything was chaotic. We were scattered as we dodged the Dark Lord's spells, and the Death Eaters were too. We didn't dare gather near Dumbledore, in case we interfered with his fight, so we each fought on our own."
Moody glanced at the Death Eaters lying on the ground and continued, "I'm guessing that's when these fellows used a Disillusionment Charm or an Invisibility Cloak to sneak in. Everything was so chaotic, and everyone had their own opponents to deal with. We may have overlooked them."
"Then how are things now? What about Frank and the others? Are they all right?" Hearing this, Alice Longbottom anxiously asked about her husband.
