"Was there a source of information for the Death Eaters within the Order of the Phoenix? Who was it?" After hearing Snape's words, Dumbledore finally confirmed a few things and continued questioning him.

"I don't know. It could be anyone. We can't keep them so exposed. The Dark Lord will find an opportunity sooner or later. Maybe next time, or the time after that, he'll succeed. I know he won't give up." Snape's voice trembled, but he still told Dumbledore everything he knew.

Then Snape seemed to make up his mind. The scales in his heart tipped decisively to the other side, and he pleaded with Dumbledore, "Hide her. Hide them. I'm begging you!"

"Then what are you prepared to give in exchange, Snape?" Dumbledore looked at him calmly and asked in an even tone.

Now that Snape had made up his mind, the struggle faded from his face, replaced by a hint of bewilderment. Then he said quietly, "Anything!"

Seeing that Snape had finally made his decision, Dumbledore felt a weight lift from his heart. He nodded and said softly, "Remember what you said today. I'll find a way to protect Lily and her family. If anything happens on Tom's end, be sure to let me know. You know how to find me."

Snape seemed utterly drained. He nodded numbly, then added, "That Anduin you just mentioned—is he the fellow who saved that bastard Sirius the other day?"

Dumbledore nodded. "That's right. He was sorted into Slytherin, too, but his convictions are much stronger than yours."

"A Slytherin? Fine. Maybe I made the wrong choice from the start. Give this to him for me. Consider it a token of my gratitude." With that, Snape pulled a vial of Potions from his robes and handed it to Dumbledore.
