Background

Anya was born into a once-prominent but declining Roman noble family with a complicated lineage. Family legends connected an ancestor to Agrippina the Younger, while later generations married into barbarian commanders' families during the Empire's civil wars before returning to the Roman court under Emperor Julian. 18

She married an Imperial general who followed Polytheism and whose family could be traced to Julian's reign. When he died during the Barbarian Invasion, Anya legally inherited his estate and became a wealthy widow. 14 18

As the Church began persecuting witches, Anya used her inherited wealth to secretly fund Triss's Witch Coven for mutual protection. Her money and connections made her one of the Coven's founders despite her initially weak magical rank. 14 18
