The instant the Insect Tide crashed into them, Leike knew these things were far larger than the one at Old Council Square.
The Swarm Insects hesitated not at all, surging forward like a tide. The gray Insect Tide frantically clung to the shell of the first Chimera, piling upward in layer after layer.
But the creature before them was covered in special plant roots. When the Swarm Insects bit down, they left only rows of shallow white marks.
They couldn't bite through it? They actually couldn't bite through it?
Leike was startled.
His Swarm Insects should have had an easy time dealing with Great Ghouls like this.
The Inscription on the city wall suddenly flashed. The instant its pressure descended, the Great Ghouls that had just crawled out of the Collapse Pit all froze, and several were forced directly to their knees.
But the light lasted only a few breaths. The strength of the Inscription flickered erratically, flashing again and again before large sections abruptly went dark.
Leike felt the force pressing down on the Swarm Insects suddenly ease by more than half. The insect swarm immediately came alive again, its roiling advance more than twice as fast.
But those Great Ghouls had also broken free from their restraints.
One after another, those pinned down by the pressure rose again. Their movements were sharper than before, their shrieks more piercing, and they had already begun spreading in every direction.
Those contaminated by the Forest Seed were even worse. Bronze City's pressure had never been particularly effective against them. Now that the restraints were gone, they charged forward with even greater speed.
The energy within the Inscription on the Inner City Wall was gradually running dry. This had become inevitable, especially after the Bronze Pillar in the Underground Abyss had been
