When the first wooden barrel burst among the Drow Elves' reserves, they had yet to realize how serious the situation was.
The barrel shattered, spraying gray-white liquid in every direction. The liquid rapidly dispersed upon contact with the air. Yet the Drow Elves showed no symptoms, whether they smelled the gray-white vapor or came into contact with it.
More large barrels came hurtling in.
Someone reported the situation to Matron Cynthia.
Cynthia grew suspicious. Having been burned once, she was cautious now. The gray liquid in the barrels showed no sign of being harmful, but it could still be part of another trap.
She immediately ordered the signal officer to sound the retreat, calling back the second and third units from their assault on the city to regroup.
But the retreat signal had barely sounded, and the troops had yet to reform, when screams erupted from the crowd.
"Aaaagh!"
In the areas struck by the barrels, the Drow Elves who had touched the gray-white liquid rolled across the ground in agony, tearing at their skin like mad.
The corpse blotches that had faded away appeared again, denser and more horrifying than before!
Only now, the blotches had changed from gray-white to blue-green. The Drow Elves thrashing on the ground looked like swollen, blue-skinned monsters. Then they staggered back to their feet.
Zombies!
The Drow Elf Zombies stumbled as they walked, but they lunged with startling speed! The Drow Elf warriors caught by the first wave were infected too after just a few bites.
Worse still, even those who had neither touched the gray-white liquid nor been bitten began showing the same symptoms. One after another, spreading outward from the barrels, they turned into Zombies amid guttural roars!
"It's a virus! A virus the humans developed that spreads through the air!"
