As soon as Butcher landed in front of Vazhatas, he activated Rot.
Rot's poisonous mist greatly reduced the damage a poisoned target dealt to Butcher, making it a form of damage mitigation. Once Butcher took a hit from Vazhatas, Bai Xiaowen would have a rough idea of just how hard Vazhatas could strike.
Enveloped in purple mist, Vazhatas quickly sensed something was wrong. He swung his heavy halberd sideways and roared, "Get out of my way!"
Bai Xiaowen's Polearm Specialty was no longer weak. He had Butcher raise the Giant Serpent Scepter. With a clang, the halberd slammed into it, sending ripples through Butcher's fat and knocking him back several stumbling steps.
But he had parried the blow. Butcher suffered only the shock of the impact, and thanks to his set's damage reduction, his health barely dropped.
Vazhatas paused for an instant. In that instant, the White Phoenix Team's ranged attacks struck him, shaving more than a hundred points off his Life Value. With Butcher pinning him down at close range, he could no longer benefit from the absurd passive defense of Serpentine Movement.
Vazhatas was astonishingly tough. The 40% damage reduction he enjoyed in a naval battle was formidable, and his default enhanced equipment, armor, magic resistance, and other defenses reduced the White Phoenix Team's damage output even further.
That hundred-plus damage had come from the first concentrated volley by Cecilia, the Bone Warlock, Bai Xiaowen, and the other ranged attackers. In theory, their combined attacks should have dealt four or five hundred damage, yet they had barely scratched him...
But Vazhatas had no intention of standing there and taking it. His combat instincts were sharp. He immediately recognized Butcher as a troublesome tank and knew he could not afford to get bogged down fighting him.
