As night fell, Bai Jing took out three cards and a pile of wires, working on the problem of his phone's charging cable.
His phone used a Type-C port, a standard that wouldn't be released until 2013, so it wasn't available on the market at all.
And his phone was almost out of battery after a day of use.
It was only at 79%!
You ask about his own?
It was plugged into the power strip by his bed. Who brings a charger out to buy breakfast!
Bai Jing didn't understand circuits, but didn't he have his scanning ability? He'd scan whenever something didn't make sense, observing the flow of current and the impact of voltage on wires from a microscopic level. Then, he'd adjust bit by bit, swap wires, and study the circuit.
Next to him were textbooks from Columbia Electrical Engineering!
"I suddenly realized this ability of mine is quite suited for scientific research!" Bai Jing scratched his head, wondering if he should pursue a doctorate or something.
After all, Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange, and the like—how many titles did they each have?
Besides, he was going to steal, cough, acquire Iron Man's technical data in the future. What if he scanned it then and couldn't understand it!
"My brain is still this good, it would be a waste not to study!" Bai Jing stroked his chin, seriously considering the decision.
Many people who entered society regretted not studying harder back in the day, and Bai Jing was no different.
If he had studied hard back then, maybe he could have gotten into a better university. After graduation, he wouldn't have ended up at the bottom of society, afraid to date, afraid to get sick, unable to afford a house, and filled with envy and hatred seeing news about Xia Wei's high-paying recruitment for math geniuses.
Reading, researching, and daydreaming, he seemed to have done a lot, yet also nothing at all.
When Bai Jing felt like sleeping, he checked the time and it was four o'clock.
"Looks like I'm still relatively safe..." Bai Jing felt that no one had tried to assassinate him for so long, so he figured it wouldn't happen now.
His enemies were just Kingpin and Roxxon Corporation?
But Roxxon Corporation didn't necessarily have to kill him. After all, a company's preference was always negotiation and reason. If they sent assassins for every little thing, who would cooperate with them?
That left only Kingpin. But Bullseye was dead, and Bai Jing really didn't know who else was famous among Kingpin's subordinates.
"Whatever!" Bai Jing simply closed his eyes.
He really couldn't stay awake any longer.
At the same time, Matt Murdock, whose blindness didn't hinder his pursuit of enemies at all, had just finished work.
Wearing a red leather suit and without a proper mask, Matt Murdock had been blind since childhood. But with this loss came greatly enhanced hearing, smell, and touch.
To the point where, with these four senses, he could perceive everything in the world even more clearly than a normal person.
And because he possessed great strength and a righteous heart, he was always very busy at night, fighting robbers, rapists, drug dealers, human traffickers, and all sorts of injustice.
It was a pity that he had toiled for half his life without much achievement; Hell's Kitchen remained as it was.
In fact, Hell's Kitchen was much better ten years later, but it wasn't thanks to them.
It was due to the economic downturn that caused capitalists to invest money in the real estate industry. Hell's Kitchen, an area that had hardly been developed, was targeted by capitalists.
Rising housing prices made it unaffordable for the middle class, and rising rents made it unaffordable for Broadway dreamers. As the dregs of society and Broadway drifters left, the gangs lost their breeding ground, and the public order in Hell's Kitchen improved.
About half a street away from his law firm, Matt Murdock stopped and looked ahead silently.
In reality, he couldn't see anything, but he heard a car by his office door with three people inside, all asleep.
"Gangsters, what are they doing here!" Matt Murdock frowned, wondering if his identity had been exposed.
But if it had been, his office would likely have been trashed by now, instead of still being intact.
So, they were probably there for something else.
He silently flew onto the eaves, returned to his residence, changed out of his superhero costume, put on his pajamas, and lay down on the bed.
Closing his eyes, he fell asleep in less than five minutes.
Three and a half hours later, he woke up precisely at seven-thirty, thanks to his alarm clock.
Through years of training, he could enter a deep sleep state at will. Although he worked as a lawyer by day and dispensed justice by night, getting only three and a half hours of sleep daily, this three and a half hours of deep sleep was far more effective than the usual eight hours of inefficient sleep.
This was top-tier time management.
He got up and took off his pajamas.
Bare-chested in the training room, he did fifty squats and fifty push-ups.
He showered and got dressed.
Then came breakfast.
He cracked four eggs into a bowl, added salt, and stirred.
He fried them in lard until golden brown, rolled them into a pancake, added vegetable powder, and ate them slowly, bite by bite.
He briefly tidied his hair, went downstairs, and opened the door.
At the entrance, a Latino man with a wide smile was already waiting.
"Lawyer Matt Murdock, our boss invites you!" he said with a beaming smile.
"Is this about a legal matter? You can consult here, or contact me by phone!" Matt Murdock replied. "I have many clients and cannot leave freely!"
"Ah, this..." The Latino man wore a wry smile. Thinking about the consequences of disturbing that person, the blind lawyer in front of him was much easier to deal with.
"You'll have to come with us. We can close the shop for a day, and we guarantee you won't lose too much!" the Latino man said.
Matt was silent.
He'd joined thousands of gangs, but this was the first time he'd encountered such politeness.
Besides, he couldn't refuse. Theoretically, a scrawny, blind lawyer couldn't refuse an invitation from three burly gang members.
What's more, these guys had arrived at four in the morning but had waited until now. The discipline they displayed made him a little uneasy.
"Alright!" Matt nodded and was about to turn when one of them took his white cane from the shop, closed the door for him, and flipped over the "Closed Today" sign.
"Shall we go?" the Latino man asked softly.
Matt nodded, got into the car, and listened as it started.
Though his eyes were closed, a virtual image of Hell's Kitchen seemed to form in his mind.
The car drove along Eleventh Avenue, from 54th Street to 53rd Street, then to 52nd Street.
"The Tehran family? No, the Irish family? No, not Rednecks either, it couldn't be Gray Squirrel..."
The car stopped at the Gray Squirrels' headquarters!
"It really is Gray Squirrel!" Matt got out of the car in surprise. Listening to the voice beside him, which seemed deliberately lowered, he instantly understood something.
Were these guys gathering drugs, planning to burn them?
Were the Bront Brothers of the Gray Squirrels wiped out and replaced by a new leader?
Was this new leader Asian? And had they taken over the Viper Gang?
Had they decreed that drugs would no longer be sold?
And this new leader seemed incredibly imposing; dozens of people were moving things, yet not a single sound dared to be made?
He followed the men upstairs into the hall, then sat on the sofa under the direction of the Latino man.
"Our boss is still sleeping. Could you wait a moment?" the man asked politely.
"Of course!" Matt Murdock's current identity was that of a lawyer, and he couldn't suddenly stand up and declare himself Daredevil.
Moreover, he had become interested in this new leader of the Gray Squirrels!
Who was this person? What did they want?
Why invite me?
Although he didn't think highly of this person's actions, he had a feeling that they might be kindred spirits!
Perhaps a young person just starting out?
I want to update more, but National Day is coming up in a few days!
I'll definitely be lazy about writing during National Day, so I might as well get the National Day chapters done these few days.
Then I can play freely during National Day, watch matches, and so on.
