Bai Jing heard the Black man behind him quietly running away, but he had no mind to think about that.
Transmigration—how could he have transmigrated?!
And of all places, why did he have to transmigrate to America?
"I need to find a way back!" After all, in the land of the free, America had shootings every day. Bai Jing didn't want to be randomly killed one day—how unjust would that be!
There was no going back to his original world for now. Even if he wanted to, no one here would help him. Only if he made it across the ocean to China, revealed his transmigrator identity along with his superpowers, might the country allocate resources to help him study the secrets of transmigration.
"Oh right, there's this superpower too!" Just as he was about to pull out his phone, Bai Jing suddenly remembered it was 2008!
The Huawei Mate 40 in his hand was no less than pure black tech!
He couldn't just whip it out casually!
Luckily, the streets were lined with shops, mostly restaurants.
"Is this some kind of food street?" Bai Jing walked along, looking around, as all kinds of English poured into his ears. Bits of memory began to resurface.
He'd started learning English in third grade, then three years of middle school, three of high school, and four of college.
Though he'd forgotten most of it from disuse, all the knowledge he'd ever learned was recorded in his subconscious.
Most people never get a chance to unlock it in their lifetime, but Bai Jing was different. His brain felt like it had entered an overclocked state—everything he'd memorized or even just skimmed, including the Oxford Dictionary he'd flipped through once, began surfacing one by one.
So much so that as he walked, Bai Jing suddenly realized he could understand what people around him were saying!
But that was a minor issue.
Bai Jing arrived at a clothing store, stopped in front of the fitting mirror at the entrance, and stared blankly at his reflection.
1.86 meters, tall and lean, pale-faced, messy hair, dark circles still there. He wore a white T-shirt with the words "Can't make a living by working" in Chinese KaiTi font, and loose sweatpants.
He was kind of handsome.
This was him, no different from the version of himself who'd been slumped over his desk livestreaming yesterday.
The only difference was in his eyes!
He was a standard Han Chinese from the north, with irises that were brownish-black. But now, in the mirror, his irises were an unfathomably deep black.
So utterly black that even the world's reflection that should have been in his eyes was gone!
It was like staring into an abyss—that pool of stillness sent a chill through Bai Jing himself when he met his own gaze!
"It's like... a black hole!" Bai Jing muttered involuntarily, then suddenly felt like he'd hit the nail on the head!
That somewhat handsome face paired with those dark eyes was like a dragon having its pupils painted in—his charm shot up several notches! From kind of handsome to downright captivating!
He raised his hand and lightly flicked his finger, and the mirror in front of him swayed slightly!
"Back when I was dodging those bullets, I noticed there seemed to be a field-like area around me!" Bai Jing sensed the range he could control, then picked up a ruler from the counter and placed it on the ground to measure.
"0.93 meters!"
"A sphere with a diameter of 0.93 meters, centered on my eyes! I can control gravity and repulsion within this range!"
And also!
He focused all his attention on the ruler in front of him, and saw it rapidly magnify—a millimeter scale expanded to seem a meter wide!
And that was far from the limit!
"Microscopic Vision!"
With a thought, he felt his gaze pierce through the ruler's surface, into the plastic particles less than a millimeter thick, and saw the neatly arranged plastic molecules inside!
"Gravity can penetrate everything. In scientific theory, it can even cross into higher dimensions. No material has been found yet that can block it!" Bai Jing murmured. "My vision has the properties of gravity, so I can scan all matter!"
Gravity Detection!
And the most basic ability!
What defines a black hole?
Of course—devouring everything!
Within the gravitational range, countless plastic particles turned into molecules, then under immense gravitational force, all chemical bonds snapped directly, reverting to atomic form, before vanishing into the ruler's plastic material.
Because the amount was so small, Bai Jing felt nothing, but he could confirm that tens of thousands of plastic particles had been absorbed by his eyes!
He was just experimenting with the ruler. In reality, his absorption range was enormous—anything within the gravitational field could be absorbed!
That is, a sphere with a diameter of 0.93 meters!
"So that's why I see everyone else moving in slow motion—it's the Gravitational Time Dilation effect!" Bai Jing suddenly realized!
Gravitational Time Dilation means that when a person is within the gravitational field of a massive celestial body, time passes faster for them!
The stronger the gravity, the faster time flows.
If a race lived on the sun, whose gravity far exceeds Earth's, then from their perspective, they'd see us Earthlings moving at lightning speed!
And Bai Jing seeing the outside world in slow motion was because he himself was covered by the gravitational field of the black hole in his eyes. Earth's gravity was far stronger than his eye's gravity, putting him in the weaker gravitational zone, so his time passed much faster than an Earthling's.
From what he could tell, the time ratio was roughly 1:2!
If he maintained this ratio long-term, while an ordinary person lived 50 years, Bai Jing would live 100—his lifespan would be cut in half compared to a normal human!
But in reality, Bai Jing wasn't losing out, because in his own timeline, he really had lived for a hundred years.
Still, if you could live longer, who would want to be cut short by half?
"I need to work on expanding my gravitational range. Once it reaches two meters, the time flow should match Earth's!" Bai Jing thought to himself.
This shouldn't be too hard. If a black hole wants to grow, it just devours mindlessly!
As for his better eyesight and hearing, that was simple too—since his eyes were black holes, the gravity directly enhanced his absorption of light and sound waves.
As for why his brain had gotten sharper...
No idea.
"But why did my eyes turn into black holes? Was it because the space-time compression during the transit?" Bai Jing used to hate using his brain, but now that it worked better, he actually enjoyed thinking.
After mulling it over for a while with no answers, he simply gave up.
Putting down the ruler, Bai Jing turned his head, planning to find another alley and get jumped by that Nigga again.
He'd stepped out to buy breakfast, but instead of getting food, he'd gotten transported. Now his stomach was growling!
But since there was no QR code payment here, Bai Jing had to rely on some kind soul to spot him some cash.
"Hey, how come this ruler's so flimsy? It snapped with one pull!" Behind him, a middle-aged woman with a four-foot waist suddenly bellowed.
Bai Jing perked up his ears, glanced around, and was about to duck into an alley when he felt two people grab his arms from either side.
"Brother, come with us!" The man on his left—a burly, brown-skinned guy with obvious Latino features—whispered in his ear, then licked it!
"You're done for!" Bai Jing's skin crawled. In an instant, he projected his gravity, sweeping it over the man. One-third of the blood in his body was devoured!
The guy's face went pale, dizziness hit him like a truck, and he couldn't even stand, collapsing to his knees!
"Hey bro, what's wrong? You jonesing?" The other black guy, startled, rushed to help him up.
From a distance, someone must have spotted trouble, because they immediately filled in. No more words—they grabbed Bai Jing and shoved him into a van parked by the road.
Passersby kept chatting and laughing, acting like they saw nothing.
Inside the van, two rows of seats were tall and spacious, already occupied by four or five people. But the seat Bai Jing was shoved into was short and cramped, uncomfortable to sit in and impossible to stand up from.
On top of that, all five or six foreigners reeked of body odor, mixed with a thick smell of sex in the car, nearly making Bai Jing pass out!
"Inhale it all, devour it all!" Since smells were basically chemical molecules, they were easy to swallow up.
That's when Bai Jing realized his sense of smell was also freakishly sharp.
Plus, it seemed the devouring could follow his own will. For example, if he chose to swallow the smell molecules but not the oxygen, he could still breathe normally.
If he indiscriminately gobbled everything up, that would be suicide!
"Is it him?" the driver asked from the front.
"That's him!" In the passenger seat sat a Nigga. Bai Jing turned to look—it was one of the three he'd let go earlier!
"Who are you?" Bai Jing asked. "Why are you grabbing me?"
"Enough talk!" A Nigga swung a hand as big as a palm leaf down at him, but just as it neared Bai Jing's face, it met a massive force!
Boom!
His entire arm slammed hard into the car door, denting it outward!
"You asked for it!" Bai Jing was pissed. He hadn't done anything—first he got robbed, now kidnapped. Did he look like an easy target?
Black Hole Devour. The rubber rope binding his hands vanished instantly. Panicked, the men lunged to restrain him, but Bai Jing just raised his hand and swept it. All six collapsed to the floor.
With a third of their blood drained, anyone still standing would be a true badass.
"S-Superpower?" The Latino driver was stunned. "W-Who are you?"
"I should be asking you that!" Bai Jing put his hand on the guy's shoulder. "Who are you, and why did you kidnap me?"
The Latino felt some strange force slithering through his body. He didn't know if the six in the back were dead or unconscious, but was that something he could gamble on?
"We're from the Gray Squirrel Gang. I'm Ryan Daling. It was him—he just reported finding a Xia guy with what looked like a really advanced phone!"
The Latino pointed at the black guy next to him.
The black guy was stunned too. "I-I just, I just..."
Bai Jing slapped him, and the black guy collapsed too.
"I've absorbed blood from seven people—at least 20 kilograms—and there's no improvement at all?" His perception was incredibly fine, down to the nanometer scale, but even at that level, he couldn't sense any change in his gravitational range.
Guess 20 kilos of blood was just a drop in the bucket for the Black Hole Eye.
"Ah..." The Latino driver was getting nervous, but Bai Jing patted his shoulder. "Take me to your boss, and I won't hurt you."
"O-Okay..." There was no loyalty in the underworld. The Latino sold out his boss without hesitation.
Their base seemed close. After less than five minutes of driving, they stopped again.
"Our boss is inside!" Ryan Daling carefully got out, then jogged to the back to open the door for Bai Jing.
If Bai Jing were just some ordinary thug, he might've thought about earning a reward. But facing a superpowered being?
Better to play it safe!
Besides, even if this superpowered guy got taken down, he could always say he was biding his time!
