Background / History

Jia Ruo was an ordinary young man from Earth and an enthusiastic player of League of Legends. He was transported through a portal into a dangerous Runeterra jungle, where an early attack left a deep chest-to-rib wound. He called for Neeko by name because he recognized her from the game, leading her to investigate and rescue him. Through Shuoma contact, Neeko read his memories of Earth and Runeterra, initially mistaking his knowledge for prophecy. 2 3

Neeko and Nidalee sheltered and treated him at an abandoned hunters’ camp. During several months in the jungle, Jia Ruo recovered, learned Runeterra’s common language from Neeko, and adapted to survival conditions that had initially overwhelmed him. He found a pale-blue fragment that uniquely fed energy into his body, granting heightened cognition and magical sensitivity. 4 5 6

After Neeko decided to search for the Wu Wei Clan and the cause of its destruction, Jia Ruo accompanied her. Nidalee remained behind to protect her Lion Pride, while Jia Ruo and Neeko traveled by merchant ship toward Ionia. Jia Ruo worked as a sailor, trained through wrestling, and received a flintlock pistol from the ship’s captain upon arriving at Baruo. 6 7 11

In Ionia, Jia Ruo sought out the Wuji Sword Saint, Yi, specifically to become stronger. Yi allowed him to stay, tested him with the broken saber You Meng, and eventually accepted him as his second disciple. Under Yi’s training, Jia Ruo developed Mana circulation, opened his Meridians, learned Meditation, and inherited the Wuji Dao. 12 13 15 16 21

Appearance

Jia Ruo initially arrived in Runeterra fair-skinned, unarmed, and physically weak. Months of jungle survival and ship labor changed him into a taller, more muscular young man with wheat-colored skin and a more mature appearance. 4 7

  • Originally approximately 1.75 meters tall; grew to over 1.8 meters after several months in Runeterra. 7
  • Clearly defined arm muscles from survival, sailing work, and martial training. 7
  • Often had an untrimmed beard during the sea voyage, making him appear older. 7
  • Bears a prominent scar across his chest and right ribs from his first jungle encounter. 2 6
  • Wore a rough Shadow Wolf-hide bracer made by Nidalee to secure the fragment he carried. 7
  • Selected a white linen shirt, black tailcoat, and black bow tie for Lady Lesthara’s banquet. 41

Personality

Jia Ruo begins his journey frightened, disoriented, and painfully aware of his own weakness. Rather than remaining passive, he adapts quickly: he learns a new language, practices magic despite limited aptitude, works as a sailor, and travels across Ionia to seek a teacher. His desire for power is closely tied to practical goals—survival, finding a route home, and helping Neeko investigate her clan’s fate. 3 5 7 12

He is energetic, chatty, and prone to playful fantasies about becoming a heroic swordsman. Yi recognizes his diligence and exceptional comprehension, but Jia Ruo’s early fighting style can be overly risky and driven by a desire to prove himself. 12 13 14 34

Yi’s teachings strongly shape Jia Ruo’s ideals. He comes to value chivalry, kindness, and protecting the weak, helping rebuild a village alongside his master. However, the massacre of an Ionian village reveals his emotional volatility: consumed by rage, he continues attacking defeated pirates until Yi intervenes. The aftermath leaves him grief-stricken, guilty, and more disciplined in his cultivation. 17 19 20

Abilities & Skills

Wuji Dao

Jia Ruo is Yi’s official disciple and inherited the Wuji tradition after undergoing formal instruction in martial discipline, Mana circulation, swordsmanship, and meditation. 13 15 30

  • Uses Mana circulation to open Meridians and nourish his body’s vitality. 16
  • Combines explosive movement with sword techniques suited to agile combat. 19 23

  • His practical experience, willpower, and combat maturity remain far behind Yi’s despite rapid progress. 25

Meditation Aura

  • Prevents him from attacking while active. 23

  • Used during the rescue of Lady Lesthara and while evading the Azure Carved Golem. 39 46
  • Costs approximately 20% of his Mana per use. 35
  • Mana recovery is approximately 10% every five minutes through normal breathing, or 10% per minute while meditating. 35

Plant Magic

Jia Ruo learned rudimentary plant manipulation from Neeko, though her innate Vastayan magic remains vastly beyond his ability. 5 10

  • Can coax plants and grass to grow or twist in chosen directions. 5 10
  • Can produce small sprouts from his fingertips. 13
  • Has attempted a miniature version of Neeko’s plant-growth technique by expending all his Mana. 36
  • Cannot match Neeko’s speed, control, or natural affinity. 5 10

Enhanced Perception and Comprehension

The fragment’s energy and later the Sorcery Potion significantly improve Jia Ruo’s sensory and mental abilities. 5 6 48

Investigation of Magical Depletion

Alongside Neeko, Xayah, Rakan, and Yi, Jia Ruo investigates an island whose depleted magic resembles the destruction surrounding the Wu Wei Clan. He concludes that the Shadow Order and Zed may be connected to a broader scheme to draw Magic Power from Ionia. 23 26 27 29

Placidium Investigator

After Yi leaves him in Placidium, Jia Ruo becomes a Sheriff and chooses the Investigator Group over patrol duty. His first assignment involves uncovering a household mole, infiltrating a bandit camp, and rescuing Lady Lesthara without indiscriminate killing. 33 34 36 37 39

Azure Carved Golem Incident

Jia Ruo joins Percy’s expedition against the Azure Carved Golem for access to valuable magical rewards.
