Background / History

Meeting Xayah

Rakan performed in Longge Town, singing ancient Vastayan ballads and entertaining an enthusiastic crowd with theatrical tricks. Xayah, who had come to recover a stolen Vastayan relic, initially dismissed him as a clown. Nevertheless, his performance distracted the townspeople and made her mission easier 22.

When mercenaries later ambushed Xayah, Rakan joined the fight despite her insistence that she needed no help. His spinning leaps disoriented their enemies, allowing her to kill them with precise feather-blade attacks. He then followed her on her travels, gradually becoming her inseparable companion and soulmate. Her devotion to the Vastaya inspired him to adopt her cause: liberating Ionia’s ancient magic so their people could recover their former glory 22.

Meeting Jia Ruo and Neeko

While travelling west to investigate an island’s depleted magic, Rakan and Xayah encountered Wukong. His attempts to pluck one of Rakan’s feathers provoked a chase; Wukong later described the encounter as a fight that ended in friendship 21 22.
