For a thousand years, Aatrox has wandered Runeterra, causing destructive events, all in search of a power that could kill him.
If the world were to be destroyed by this, then he too would cease to exist along with it.
He was unwilling to give up this opportunity.
What Aatrox didn't know, Ato did.
Before his transmigration, he hadn't interacted with people in the real world for a long time, precisely because games and novels had occupied almost all his time, and he understood the settings of different works very well.
"You want to know the method? Fine, I'll tell you right now."
Ato didn't care whether Aatrox was trustworthy or not, and wanted to directly tell him the method to kill himself.
The red light flashing on the sword body almost stopped, as if the soul's breathing had also ceased.
Through the conversation just now, Aatrox understood that this human who had defeated him in a battle of wills knew many things. His method might be able to point him, who was like a headless fly, in the right direction.
"Actually, it's very simple. There are a total of..."
Just then, the tavern door was kicked open again, and another group of pirates barged in. There were more of them than Sarah's group, about thirty or so.
After entering, they didn't shout or make a scene. Instead, they swept their Carbines around.
Although the door was closed, the hole in it made them vigilant.
The pirate leading the group had a long scar across his face, and his left hand had been replaced by the iconic pirate's iron hook. Upon seeing the overturned tables and chairs and Ato sitting inside, he quickly shifted the aim of his right hand, which held a gun.
Beside Ato, the terrifying blood-red greatsword caught his eye, causing him to break out in a cold sweat.
"Who are you? Where is Walter?" The more than thirty subordinates behind him gave the scarred man some courage. Walter was the obese iron hook gang member who had previously surrounded Sarah and had already been absorbed by Aatrox.
Ato was about to explain the method when he was interrupted and asked helplessly, "Are you guys also looking for Miss Fortune?"
Upon hearing that name, the pirates became somewhat agitated.
In recent months, Miss Fortune had made them all feel endangered. Whether it was her combat skills, marksmanship, or strategy, she had given the Iron Hook Gang a considerable headache.
"That's right. Walter was the one who passed the message to me, saying that Miss Fortune was captured at the Blaze Wave Tavern in Grayport. No matter who you are, Miss Fortune's life must be taken by the Iron Hook Gang."
"I am Shack, the first mate of the Gangplank's Fleet flagship, The Dreadnought. If you don't hand over Miss Fortune, you'll be making an enemy of Bilgewater's ruler, Gangplank!"
Ato rubbed his nose, ignored Shack's threat, and turned to the greatsword beside him: "Hey old man, they're not letting me tell you the method. What should we do?"
"I thought I had seen enough foolishness." The greatsword's voice was hoarse and cold. "Come, let me kill you..."
"A thousand times? No problem."
Ato instantly stood up, grabbed the hilt of the greatsword, and then both man and sword vanished before the pirates.
Shack's eyes widened. He scanned left and right, searching for that figure. Then, he heard the screams of pirates from behind him.
Shack turned his head and immediately felt unable to breathe. Half of the men he brought had been cut in half at the waist, their upper bodies still floating in the air, not yet fallen. Their blood was being controlled by an unknown force, flowing in one direction.
The severed bodies followed the blood, eventually merging into the greatsword.
"What kind of... monster is this?"
Shack had forgotten how to think. He knew that as a pirate under Gangplank, many innocent people had met their end in raids for wealth.
He knew that magic existed in this world, and many things beyond common sense. Sea monsters like the Leviathan were ferocious, yet ships catching Leviathans docked at the Slaughter Docks every day.
Even he, with blood on his hands, felt for the first time that his understanding of the world was flawed.
"Run... Run quickly!"
Shack screamed with all his might. The remaining half of the pirates were jolted awake by his voice and instinctively tried to rush out the door. But the door, previously knocked open, slammed shut once more. The figure wielding the greatsword stood right at the entrance!
"Ahhh..."
Shack and the others lost their minds. They raised their guns and fired at the door. This time, Ato did not dodge, letting the bullets pierce his clothes and disappear into his body.
Even after the pirates emptied their magazines, they maintained their aiming posture, staring intently ahead. How could there be a creature in this world that even guns and cannons were helpless against? No, that was impossible.
As the smoke cleared, the already damaged door bore countless new bullet holes. Ato, who had not flinched or dodged, held his sword horizontally at his side with one hand.
His entire body, including his head, was riddled with numerous bloody holes. A pair of vacant eyes looked at Shack with unwillingness.
"Haha, I thought it was a real monster." Shack, having narrowly escaped, panted heavily. "I knew it, how could there be such a thing in this world..."
Suddenly, Ato's vacant eyes blinked twice.
"Hehehe." Ato forced an ugly smile. It wasn't easy to make expressions with the shell casings still lodged in his body, but it sent Shack's mood plummeting!
"Why aren't you smiling anymore? Oh, the smile hasn't disappeared, it's just moved to my face!"
The greatsword, which had been motionless, emitted faint red energy. It transmitted through the hilt into Ato's body, and the bullet-pierced areas visibly healed.
Regenerating flesh pushed the bullets out of his body. Within two breaths, Ato was as he was before, with no trace of blood or wounds.
Only the holes in his clothes remained, testifying to the fact that Ato had just endured a hail of gunfire.
"Testing out my abilities, it didn't hurt too much. But I'm sorry, Shack, I'm in a hurry. Anything you have to say, say it to the Ruler of the Underworld. Oh, wait, the Underworld doesn't deal with death... Then I'll send you to see Kindred..."
Shack quickly dropped his gun and waved his hands, saying, "Wait..."
Before he could finish speaking, he saw the monster before him vanish. In its place appeared two figures.
One was entirely black, a wolf-like monster resembling a ghost, wearing a white mask. The other stood on two legs, with white fur. Contrasting with its fur color, its mask was black.
The last thing Shack saw was a white figure raising an Energy Longbow, shooting a Life-Taking Arrow at him.
Ato seemed to sense something, but his movements didn't pause. His figure disappeared again, and with a raise of his hand and a drop of his blade, the remaining people became nourishment for the Demonic Sword of the Dark.
Pirates, though stronger than ordinary people, were still within the scope of ordinary people. Facing a Celestial Warrior from ancient times, they were perhaps even less than cannon fodder.
Ato possessed control over the Demonic Sword of the Dark, and at the same time, he gained Aatrox's thousands of years of combat experience. The vast amount of information forced Ato to only temporarily process a small portion, but it was more than enough to deal with these pirates.
Regarding his actions just now, Ato's state of mind didn't fluctuate much.
In his view, he was neither familiar with these pirates nor did they seem like villains. Therefore, he treated them as monsters that spawned at fixed intervals in games, even if the visuals were a bit intense.
"Even after so much replenishment, I still cannot shape my body. I have indeed lost control of my abilities," Aatrox sighed.
"A mad Ascended general for a thousand years, how come you're clear-headed and rational today?" Ato teased. "Since I've finally come to Runeterra, there are things I need to do, and for that, I need power."
"This is a transaction. You give me power, and I let you die."
"A fair transaction."
"Then, there shouldn't be any more pirates to interrupt us."
