Background
Clown is the Desolate God Society’s Sixth Seat and, according to Nightmare, its youngest among the Twelve Seats. He is a veteran of the Destruction Five Days and retains vivid memories of fighting the Dragon God’s forces there. 124 314
He favors a purple-and-yellow suit made by an “old woman” tailor, a former Tenth Seat whom the August First God of War beheaded during an earlier Destruction Five Days. Clown mourns the loss of both her and the outfit she wore, though he frames the tragedy with his usual theatricality. 76
He is intensely preoccupied with another “old hag,” demanding confirmation that Soul Return Town is connected to her before agreeing to assist Gambler. Later, after repeated failures, he describes having lost his chance to save his beloved. 102 326
Appearance
Clown usually presents himself in an elaborate purple-and-yellow suit, tailcoat, and mask. Beneath his disguises, he is described as handsome but wicked-looking. 76 169
- Wears masks as both props and tools in his performances. 103
- Often adopts civilian identities and clothing, including Tang Sirui’s beggar attire, a sailor’s uniform, and a soldier’s uniform. 169 326 371
- Maintains an exaggerated gentleman-performer manner, frequently bowing, applauding, or addressing confrontations as “shows.” 103 113 169
Personality
Clown is sadistic, theatrical, and deeply invested in presenting himself as the author of every encounter. He treats danger as entertainment, praises opponents even while threatening them, and repeatedly refers to victims and allies as actors, audiences, or props in his “performance.” 103 113 177
His humor is cruel and erratic. He laughs at Dusk’s mental collapse, mocks Tiffany over Piano’s fate, and delights in provoking Nightmare despite the latter’s murderous anger. 76 102 104 He is also opportunistic rather than steadfastly brave: when faced with opponents he considers unwinnable, such as Jiangnan, he immediately prioritizes escape. 227
Despite his flippancy, Clown can become serious when discussing Jiangnan’s strength, the Evil God’s commands, or his personal fixation on the old hag. His failures leave him depressed and uncertain of his own identity, particularly after realizing that his power requires convincing both others and himself of the role he plays. 130 181 279 326
Abilities & Skills
Deception and Acting
Clown is an exceptional impersonator who can maintain convincing false identities while manipulating the expectations and emotions of everyone around him.
- Poses as Tang Sirui throughout Soul Return Town, joining the group while secretly coordinating with Sage and Dusk. 169 170
- Exploits Liu Ruyan’s emotions to provoke her during the occupational competition. 170
- Yue Tian concludes that Clown’s true ability is connected to other people’s memories and impressions of him, with acting at its core; this differs from Clown’s public claim of being a straightforward transformation or dual-ability user. 177
- A Soul Ward Membrane can help conceal him from Yue Tian’s interrogation-based detection, but it cannot prevent suspicion built through ordinary investigation. 170 177
Mask-Based Body Possession
Clown can use masks he creates to seize another person’s body across any distance.
- Possesses Zhou Xing after Zhou wears one of his masks, then uses Zhou’s body to infiltrate Xiya Charity Hospital. 103
- The possession was publicly described as an “absolute body seizure” that ignores spatial distance. 103
- Jiangnan destroys Zhou Xing’s substitute body by piercing its mask with the Godslayer Spear. 124
Sequence 024: [Reincarnation Future]
Clown’s time-based ability has two independently calculated functions. 112
- Reincarnation — resets Clown’s physical state and position to where he was ten seconds earlier. 112
- Future — sends his consciousness into a frozen-time state, allowing him to prearrange up to 9.9 seconds of movement and attack trajectories before forcing them to occur in 0.1 seconds. 112
- The ability consumes little mental energy and has a one-minute cooldown; its effectiveness depends on Clown’s reaction speed and operational skill. 112
- Preset movements must be executed once activated. Jiangnan exploits this limitation by stopping time and forcing Clown into the path of the Godslayer Spear. 124
- Uses Reincarnation to recover the dagger Stocking Bandit had previously stolen from Chen Daozai. 113
Sequence 088: [Savage Battle Body]
A physical enhancement that grants Clown special-grade strength, durability, and close-combat ability. 124 224
- His attacks can produce sonic booms and force Jiangnan to rely on the Dragon God Imperial Armor defensively. 124
- Nightmare expends major resources and uses his domain to help Clown’s double obtain the ability. 130
- Clown later possesses fully special-grade physical capability through the Savage Battle Body. 224
Telekinesis and Ranged Attacks
Clown has demonstrated additional offensive and utility techniques without a stated sequence designation.
- Stops Cao Hua’s activated grenade from exploding, then removes the pin and restrains Cao Hua. 103
- Produces fleshballs covered in distorted human faces; they can release a blood-red mist that obscures vision and facilitates escape. 179
- Uses his physical speed and agility to evade attacks, escape across rooftops, and blend into hostile groups. 177 371
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Custom masks — enable his possession-based infiltration methods. 103
- Golden teleportation talismans — single-use items capable of transporting living people to Weird Island’s Soul Return Town; Clown possesses a large stack after failing to sell them through official channels. 130
- Ten Thousand Souls Orb — given by Sage; can extract and imprison souls, including Tang Sirui’s soul. Clown is ordered to use it on Yue Tian for a ritual. 181
- Soul Ward Membrane — an eyeball-mounted protective membrane supplied by Sage to conceal Clown from Yue Tian’s abilities. 170
Relationships
- Nightmare — Fellow Desolate God Society Seat and frequent handler. Nightmare considers Clown irresponsible and infuriating, but continues to work with him on major missions. 102 130 312 314
- Dusk — Fellow Seat whom Clown alternately mocks, carries, and uses as part of Society operations after Dusk’s mental collapse. 76 102 130
- Sage / Helge — Superior and Evil God whom Clown obeys after learning Sage’s true identity. Sage orders him to capture Yue Tian’s soul. 169 181
- Jiangnan / No Need to Say More — Primary enemy responsible for destroying Clown’s plans at Xiya Charity Hospital, killing his double, and repeatedly forcing him to flee. 124 130 179 227
- Guan Ming — Temporary companion at Xiya Charity Hospital. Clown treats him as expendable bait, but later removes him from the Thousand-Faced Devil Lord’s reach. 121 122
- Stocking Bandit — Uneasy temporary ally during the hospital incident. Clown respects the danger of her [Plunder] ability and assists her in reaching the morgue. 113 118 121
- Yue Tian — Huaxia’s Interrogator, who exposes Clown’s Tang Sirui disguise through investigation and deduction rather than direct ability use. 170 177
- Tang Sirui — Victim whose identity and body Clown uses in Soul Return Town; Tang’s soul is held in the Ten Thousand Souls Orb. 169 181 201
- Liu Ruyan — Temporary accomplice during her Thief assignment. Clown takes the danger from ghost constables while helping her steal a money pouch. 170 177
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dragon God Ruins
Clown meets Dusk in the Dragon God Ruins, discovers that Dusk has become mentally incapacitated, and laughs at his condition until Nightmare arrives. The Society abandons its mission due to Dusk’s state and the threat of Lin Bayi. 76
Xiya Charity Hospital
Under Nightmare’s orders, Clown agrees to help Gambler hunt Jiangnan in exchange for information about Soul Return Town and the old hag. He possesses Zhou Xing, toys with Cao Hua, evades Chen Daozai, and joins Tiffany’s attempt to control the hospital. 102 103 104
After mastering [Reincarnation Future], Clown defeats Plague Ghost and temporarily cooperates with Stocking Bandit and Guan Ming to investigate the hospital’s morgue. He identifies the Supervisor experiments as containers for a god-descending ritual and recognizes the Thousand-Faced Devil Lord’s attempt at godhood. 112 118 121 122
Clown’s double confronts Jiangnan with [Savage Battle Body] and [Future Reincarnation], but Jiangnan counters the forced movement sequence with his own time-stop ability and destroys the substitute body. 124
Soul Return Town Infiltration
Following the hospital failure, Clown travels toward Soul Return Town with Dusk and extensive teleportation-talismans. His earlier discounted sale of the talismans to the Subdragon Clan creates the possibility that Huaxia may obtain them. 130 131
Disguised as Tang Sirui, he infiltrates the town’s performance competition and coordinates with Sage. Yue Tian eventually exposes the disguise, prompting Clown to flee and openly threaten to unleash a greater calamity. 169 170 177
Sage reveals himself as the Evil God Helge and orders Clown to capture Yue Tian’s soul with the Ten Thousand Souls Orb. Clown deliberately has himself sent to the Ox-Horse Factory to infiltrate it, where he learns that prisoners mine Soul Stones used to maintain Soul Return Town’s barrier. 181 201 202
Later Conflicts
Jiangnan forces Clown to work at maximum efficiency through [Word Spirit · King’s Authority] during the Crazy Sewing Machine event. 210
Clown later fights alongside Madman against Liu Ruyan and Shadow, but Jiangnan’s arrival reverses their advantage. When Jiangnan appears again during the ensuing war, Clown abandons Madman and escapes. 226 227
After Helge’s death and the Society’s setbacks, Clown falls into drunken depression. He later accompanies Nightmare in negotiations with Gao Qiu, returns to find the Society headquarters looted, and resolves with Nightmare to rebuild their strength by devouring the abilities of Transcendents. 279 312 314
