Sasrir watched everything in silence, examining the chairs one by one.
At last, he looked toward Truman. His face seemed shrouded in a thick shadow, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking.
Lilith and the Goddess, meanwhile, stared at the two high-backed chairs marked "Mother Goddess" and "Terminus." They felt an inexplicable connection to the symbolism described there.
"Of course," Truman said, the corners of his mouth curling into a smile. "The fifth chair: Dream!"
The final chair symbolized endless dreams. It was the orb of light floating in the Sea of Dreams, the pinnacle of all that was beautiful, representing beautiful dreams coming true and wishes being fulfilled.
Five chairs, five positions. The three Pillars of the universe were all accounted for, along with an implied Fourth Pillar and Dream.
"Please, take your seats!" Truman was the first to sit in the Dream chair.
Sasrir, Amanises, and Lilith each took a seat.
Now only "Lord of the Mysteries" remained vacant.
"One more to go..." Truman said with some regret. The seat probably wouldn't find its owner for several thousand years.
The three sitting before him were the most top-tier Sun Moon Star lineup!
"What does this symbolize?" the Goddess asked.
"Pillars and dominion!" Truman explained. Only Sasrir showed any reaction; Lilith and the Goddess still knew nothing of these matters.
"From now on, this will be called the Dream Council. Does anyone object?" Truman asked.
The gods all shook their heads. This place belonged to Truman, and it could suppress the madness and indifference at their very core. They had every reason to be grateful to him.
"However, the seats here aren't set in stone. Remember to hold on to yours," Truman told the three of them.
Lilith was by far the one in the most danger. One moment of carelessness, and the being on the moon might swallow her whole.
Lilith and the Goddess of Misfortune both nodded slightly. They could sense that even if they became True Gods, they would embody only one part of the symbolism.
That meant there was likely a level beyond True God.
As for who could claim it?
Sasrir remained silent.
"You can hold Dream Council meetings whenever you like. Call one if something comes up. You can even come here to hide from the encroaching madness," Truman said, laying down the rules on the spot.
"Agreed." Lilith was the first to raise her hand. Here, she could truly be herself, free from the torment of madness.
The other two nodded as well.
"All right. I can't think of anything else for now, so feel free to talk among yourselves. Oh, one more thing: no one but you will ever learn what you discuss here." Truman interlaced his fingers, instantly exuding the gravitas of a Secret Gathering's convener.
The Goddess approached Lilith. After just a few brief words, they had a secret, long-term, and ruthless plan. Truman watched them, his heart pounding.
"These might be the two goddesses in the world you least want to cross."
Once Sasrir had confirmed his place in the plan, he exchanged knowing looks with Truman. Before long, they'd opened a small window and were chatting off to the side.
"Lastly, I wish us a successful partnership—and let us bid farewell to those Ancient Gods on the verge of extinction."
Truman conjured wine glasses before the gods. The liquor in his and Sasrir's glasses was clear vodka; Lilith and the Goddess had red wine the color of blood.
Clink!
The four glasses met.
The wheels of fate began to turn, and the tides of history rolled onward.
The Goddess of Misfortune's consciousness returned to her body, and she left her hidden state.
Her eyes shone brightly as she looked toward the Giant King's Court. "Twilight Giant..."
"It's not the best time yet." The Goddess sank back into silence.
As for Truman, he had already returned to the Ancient Sun God's Heaven.
Well... the City of Darkness was only the Goddess's Anchor. It had almost no fighting power and couldn't take part in this war. There was no point in going back. Being its Pope was a job with no sense of accomplishment whatsoever.
"Does your divine kingdom need a Pope?" Truman asked Sasrir.
For a moment, Truman saw an unusually vivid expression on Sasrir's face. "Can someone be Pope in two places at once?"
Sasrir was at a loss for words. How could he not see the Anchor of Divinity on Truman? As Pope, the deity's representative, that aura was impossible to hide.
"Ahem! I was just asking!" Truman felt a little awkward too.
"Then how about a Dream Angel under the Creator?" Truman had already taken a look around the Ancient Sun God's Heaven. It had at least dozens of times as many believers as the City of Darkness, and they were all true believers.
With the Anchor of Divinity he had gained from the City of Darkness, he could now draw combat power comparable to Sequence One from the Book of Dreams. If he got dozens of times more, wouldn't he be able to rival a god?
He was practically drooling with envy.
Besides, in this world, true believers never devoted themselves to just one church...
Sasrir had never heard a request like that. For a moment, he didn't know how to respond.
"About that..." Just as Sasrir was wondering what to say, a thought echoed in his mind. It made the look he gave Truman even stranger.
"The Lord has agreed." Sasrir's expression was odd. He had no idea what his main body was up to.
But the next moment, he grew serious. "The Lord has made a prophecy: Dream shall become reality!"
Truman raised an eyebrow. "That's His prophecy?"
Sasrir nodded slightly.
Even though the Ancient Sun God had yet to fully command the authority of Omniscient and Omnipotent, His prophecies still carried immense weight.
"Dream shall become reality..." The prophecy could be interpreted in many different ways.
"From this day forward, you are the Dream Angel under my Lord!" Sasrir said solemnly. "I'll add you to the Holy Bible, record your deeds, and have them sung among the believers."
"About that..." It had come so easily that Truman was momentarily stunned.
"I'll take what I can get!" Truman accepted the position of Dream Angel. The Ancient Sun God would have plans for him, but at its core, this was a transaction.
He needed those Anchors of Divinity.
"Good." Sasrir nodded slightly. He arranged a place for Truman to stay and even gave him an excellent estate.
But it wasn't long before Sasrir brought him important news, before Truman had even finished setting up his estate.
"Lilith has joined the war with the Sanguine. The other Ancient Gods are also making moves and preparing to enter the fray."
Truman's expression tightened at the news.
The Ancient Gods were entering the conflict one after another. The divine war hadn't erupted yet, but the war between the Subordinate Gods and the Angels had already begun.
In this era, the Ancient Gods all understood the purpose of Anchors. Before a true divine war broke out, destabilizing someone's Anchors was a common tactic.
In an age when everyone was mad, being a little madder didn't make you much stronger, but it did make you more likely to make mistakes.
"You'll set out for the Giant King's Court with Medici and the others."
"As for your mission... do whatever you want."
Truman, too, set out for the Giant King's Court, which had become the eye of the storm. As it happened, he was the one who'd stirred it up in the first place!
