Appearance
Zhao Wuji is a middle-aged, burly man whose ordinarily hazy, sleepy-looking eyes contrast sharply with his imposing combat presence. 49 50
- In battle, he manifests the Vajra Bear Martial Soul and can transform into a genuine bear over five meters tall through his Martial Soul Avatar. 54
- His transformed form is covered in rapidly growing fur and possesses greatly increased physical power. 54
Personality
Zhao Wuji is confident, blunt, and willing to exercise his authority as Shrek Academy's acting highest-ranking member when the dean is absent. He casually changes the fourth assessment to require five applicants to jointly withstand him for one incense stick. 49
He appreciates bold talent; Bai Mu's challenge entertains him rather than offending him at first. However, his pride and temper surface when Bai Mu's tactics repeatedly frustrate him and ultimately leave him humiliated. 52 53 54 Despite this, he acknowledges Bai Mu as a “little monster” and accepts the loss rather than escalating the encounter. 55
Abilities & Skills
Vajra Bear Martial Soul
Zhao Wuji possesses the Vajra Bear, a Martial Soul that makes him a Spirit Saint proficient in both offense and defense, with few apparent physical weaknesses. 52
- His immense durability allows him to endure repeated bites, shockwaves, explosive attacks, and Land's Wrath during Bai Mu's challenge. 53 54 55
- His physical strength and bear-form attacks are powerful enough to threaten Zygarde directly. 53 54
Immovable Bright King Body
His first Spirit Skill reinforces his defenses, allowing him to withstand several simultaneous Zygarde bites. 53
- It is used alongside his Vajra Bear Martial Soul and Martial Soul Avatar. 53 54
- Repeated Crunch attacks can gradually weaken its defense. 55
Vajra Palm
Zhao Wuji's second Spirit Skill delivers a heavy, Vajra-infused palm strike. 53
- He uses it to destroy Zygarde's apparent body after tracking it. 53
- In conjunction with increased gravity and his Martial Soul Avatar, it becomes an all-out blow against Zygarde. 54
- The attack fails to penetrate Zygarde's Protect barrier. 54
Gravity Manipulation
Zhao Wuji employs Gravity Increase and Gravity Squeeze to suppress movement, crush targets, and control the battlefield. 53 54
- Gravity Increase — Intensifies gravity across the field, slowing those caught within it. 54
- Gravity Squeeze — Compresses targets with invisible gravity and can disperse Zygarde's substitutes. 53 54
- Extreme Speed allows Zygarde to overcome his gravity effects temporarily. 54
Position Tracking
His fourth Spirit Skill allows him to lock onto a target and pursue it through the air. 53
- He uses it to identify and attack what he believes is Zygarde's real body. 53
- He later locks onto Bai Mu himself, only to discover that the target at the field's edge was a Substitute. 55
- Zhao Wuji again uses the skill to threaten Bai Mu after the duel, but does not act. 56
Martial Soul Avatar
Zhao Wuji's seventh Spirit Skill transforms him into a massive Vajra Bear and places him in his strongest state. 54
- His body exceeds five meters in height. 54
- He combines the form with Immovable Bright King Body and Gravity Squeeze for defense. 54
- Even in this state, he cannot break Zygarde's Protect. 54
Relationships
- Bai Mu — Entrance applicant and solo challenger. Zhao Wuji is initially amused by Bai Mu's audacity, then becomes enraged after being outmaneuvered and defeated; he ultimately recognizes Bai Mu's exceptional talent. 52 53 55
- Dai Mubai — Student who asks to test the applicants before Zhao Wuji's assessment. Zhao Wuji later orders Oscar to heal Dai Mubai after Bai Mu defeats him. 49 51
- Tang San, Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong — Applicants subjected to Zhao Wuji's incense-stick assessment. Ning Rongrong openly invokes the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to deter him from forcibly retaining Bai Mu. 49 52 56
- Oscar — Shrek student summoned by Zhao Wuji to produce recovery sausages for the injured Dai Mubai. 51
Story Role / Major Arcs
Shrek Academy entrance assessment
Zhao Wuji serves as the examiner for Shrek Academy's fourth test. He instructs the five candidates to withstand his attacks together for the duration of one incense stick, declaring that the group passes if even one person remains standing. 49
At Dai Mubai's request, Zhao Wuji allows a separate preliminary match between Dai Mubai and Bai Mu. 49 After Bai Mu defeats Dai Mubai, Zhao Wuji has Oscar provide recovery sausages rather than asking Bai Mu to heal him. 51
Battle against Bai Mu
Bai Mu rejects the group assessment and challenges Zhao Wuji to a one-on-one fight despite the disparity between a level-40 Soul Elder and a level-76 Spirit Saint. Zhao Wuji accepts, eager to see the source of Bai Mu's confidence. 52 53
The duel forces Zhao Wuji to contend with Zygarde's Double Team, paralysis from Glare and Stomp, Land's Wrath, Substitute, Dragon Dance, and Protect. His gravity skills and Tracking Lock-On repeatedly fail to secure a decisive hit. 53 54
After Zygarde's substitutes weaken his defenses with Crunch and bombard him with Land's Wrath, Zhao Wuji attempts to attack Bai Mu directly. The supposed Bai Mu is revealed to be another Substitute, leaving Zhao Wuji unable to locate the real one. 55 He concedes the match, calling Bai Mu an impressive “little monster.” 55
Attempt to recruit Bai Mu
Zhao Wuji attempts to persuade Bai Mu to join Shrek Academy, emphasizing its teachers and arguing that Bai Mu still has much to learn. Bai Mu counters that he has already reached Rank 40 at age twelve and has effectively met Shrek's graduation standard before enrolling. 56
Angered by Bai Mu's intention to leave after treating the assessment as a sparring match, Zhao Wuji threatens to forcibly keep him using Tracking Lock-On. Ning Rongrong intervenes by identifying Bai Mu as a guest elder of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Zhao Wuji ultimately does not attack, uncertain whether Bai Mu's departing figure is genuine or another Substitute. 56
