Background

Zygarde awakened in Bai Mu’s hand during the Martial Soul Awakening ceremony. Su Yuntao initially mistook it for a useless “green snot worm,” while Bai Mu recognized its red hexagonal core as Zygarde, the legendary Dragon/Ground-type Pokémon known as the Monitor of the Ecosystem. Its starting Soul Power was only level 1, but Bai Mu understood that its true strength depended on splitting Cells and assembling more powerful forms 1.

As a Core, Zygarde could become invisible, perform Photosynthesis under sunlight, communicate telepathically, and share vision through its Cells. Its Photosynthesis inspired Bai Mu’s Sunlight Meditation Method, while its Cells became covert observers that could be placed across an area 2 5.

When Bai Mu reached level 10, Zygarde split its ninth Cell and merged with them into its 10% Dragon Dog Form. This transformation gave it direct combat ability, Dragon Might, and an innate pool of moves despite Bai Mu not yet possessing a Spirit Ring 6 7.

Following Bai Mu’s first Spirit Ring, Zygarde gained Extreme Speed and became able to use Jungle Healing alongside its master. It continued growing through Immortal Herb energy, Spirit Ring absorption, and training, eventually reaching its 50% Order Monitor form after the battle against the Tusked Time Hunter 14 22 37.

After consuming the 100,000-year Blue Silver Emperor Ah Yin, Zygarde split off Z2, a shiny second core whose birth caused Blue Silver Grass throughout the continent to react 42 43.

Appearance

Core Form

Zygarde’s original manifestation is a palm-sized green, cell-like lifeform with a soft body and a red hexagonal core. It is described as resembling a planarian and can perch on Bai Mu’s shoulder or hide through invisibility 1 2.

  • Green body with a red hexagonal central core.
  • Soft, harmless-looking appearance.
  • Can become transparent while remaining physically present. 2

10% Form — Dragon Dog

At 10%, Zygarde becomes a black canine roughly 1.2 meters tall, resembling a Doberman Pinscher 6.

  • Green markings around its mouth and on its left foreleg.
  • White, glowing hexagonal eyes.
  • Ruby-inlaid, scarf-like structure around its neck.
  • Emits Dragon Might and has a notably proud demeanor. 6 46

50% Form — Order Monitor

At 50%, Zygarde becomes a five-meter-tall serpent with black-and-green scales and a solemn presence 37.

  • Cobra-like body with black frilled-lizard-like structures behind its head.
  • Four green hexagons form its eyes.
  • Cold, hard body and a greatly increased aura of power. 37

Personality

Zygarde is affectionate toward Bai Mu from its first appearance, nuzzling his cheek and responding positively to being petted. It is proud of its growth and combat accomplishments, particularly its Dragon Dog form and Extreme Speed 1 6 14.

It is also independent and decisive. Zygarde chooses Immortal Herbs based on its own judgment, intervenes when Bai Mu intends to destroy Ah Yin, and consumes the Blue Silver Emperor for its own purposes 22 42. Its view of ecological order is not gentle: Bai Mu characterizes its role as maintaining balance through “the punishment of thunderous rage” rather than compassion 22.

Despite occasionally being teased by Bai Mu, it remains loyal in battle, guards him during Spirit Ring absorption, and willingly uses its Cells and abilities to protect him 29 36.

Abilities & Skills

Cell Splitting and Form Assembly

Zygarde can split new Z-Cells, deploy them independently, and merge them into stronger forms.

  • Its Cell count determines its available form and strength.
  • Cells can function as invisible surveillance units and share vision through Telepathy.
  • Power Construct allows it to gather Cells from across the world for merging and transformation.
  • It reached 10% Form with its core plus nine Cells and 50% Form after accumulating 49 Cells. 5 6 7 37

Aura Break

Aura Break can break and reverse an opponent’s aura or domain for Zygarde’s own use 7.

  • Functions as a potential counter against domain-type abilities.
  • Its full practical limits have not yet been shown. 7

Invisibility and Telepathy

As a Core, Zygarde can turn invisible and communicate with Bai Mu through Telepathy 2.

  • Shares vision with deployed Cells.
  • Receives Bai Mu’s commands remotely during combat.
  • Bai Mu and Zygarde cannot truly harm each other through their connected attacks unless necessary. 2 7 9

Photosynthesis

Zygarde absorbs sunlight to restore its condition and support its growth 2.

  • Inspired Bai Mu’s Sunlight Meditation Method.
  • Its Cell-condensation rate can improve with better resources. 2

Jungle Healing

Jungle Healing heals targets and restores stamina and Soul Power 12.

  • Can be used by either Zygarde or Bai Mu.
  • Simultaneous use by both doubles its healing output, restoring roughly half of their own and allies’ stamina and Soul Power.
  • Bai Mu uses it to heal injured opponents after battle. 14 18

Dragon Dance

Dragon Dance raises Zygarde’s attack and speed by one stage per use 31.

  • A single stage provides a 50% increase.
  • Can stack up to six stages.
  • Its original dance sequence is lengthy, limiting immediate use in combat.
  • Zygarde tested whether it could stack Dragon Dance with Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda amplification. 31 32 51

Ecosystem Control

In 50% Form, Zygarde can manipulate the environment through Ecosystem Control 37.

  • Can summon massive plants, such as vines thick enough to snap large trees.
  • Adapts to the surrounding conditions.
  • Its demonstrated plant attacks are less suited to directly defeating powerful enemies than specialized moves. 37

Combat Moves

  • Bite — Close-range bite attack capable of crushing stone; may cause opponents to flinch. 7
  • Dragon Breath — Ranged green breath attack that can destroy stone and may inflict Paralysis. 7
  • Dragon Pulse — Powerful dragon-shaped energy wave used against the Mirror Shadow Beast and Tusked Time Hunter. 29 35 36
  • Stomp — Ground-based area shockwave that damages ground targets and reduces their speed; normally does not distinguish friend from foe. 7
  • Glare — Paralyses targets, reducing speed and potentially immobilizing them. 7
  • Safeguard — Creates a barrier that prevents abnormal conditions, including poison, paralysis, sleep, burn, freeze, confusion, and similar effects. 7 21
  • Extreme Speed — A high-speed charge attack faster and stronger than Bite, Dragon Breath, and Stomp; Zygarde can dash, strike, and return in under three seconds. 14
  • Land’s Wrath — Erupts destructive pillars of earth energy beneath targets; its power increases after Dragon Dance. 31 32
  • Substitute — Leaves behind a decoy to take an attack while Zygarde escapes. 35 54
  • Thousand Arrows — Summons a large-scale rain of arrows from above. 54
  • Protect — Forms an indestructible energy barrier around Zygarde, capable of withstanding Zhao Wuji’s powerful strike. 54

Relationships

  • Bai Mu — Master, partner, and primary companion. They communicate telepathically, coordinate closely in battle, and jointly cultivate Zygarde’s Cells and moves 1 9 36.
  • Z2 — Shiny second core split from Zygarde after it consumed the Blue Silver Emperor; shares abilities with Xiao Ruan 43.
  • Ah Yin — Zygarde consumed the 100,000-year Blue Silver Emperor after intervening in Bai Mu’s plan to destroy it 42.
  • Tang San — Opponent in Bai Mu’s level-10 sparring match; Zygarde’s innate moves overwhelmed Tang San despite his higher Soul Power level 9.
  • Tusked Time Hunter — Major opponent whose defeat contributed enough energy for Zygarde’s evolution into 50% Form 35 37.
