Background

Zygarde awakened in Bai Mu’s hand during the Martial Soul Awakening ceremony. Su Yuntao initially mistook it for a useless “green snot worm,” while Bai Mu recognized its red hexagonal core as Zygarde, the legendary Dragon/Ground-type Pokémon known as the Monitor of the Ecosystem. Its starting Soul Power was only level 1, but Bai Mu understood that its true strength depended on splitting Cells and assembling more powerful forms 1.

As a Core, Zygarde could become invisible, perform Photosynthesis under sunlight, communicate telepathically, and share vision through its Cells. Its Photosynthesis inspired Bai Mu’s Sunlight Meditation Method, while its Cells became covert observers that could be placed across an area 2 5.

When Bai Mu reached level 10, Zygarde split its ninth Cell and merged with them into its 10% Dragon Dog Form. This transformation gave it direct combat ability, Dragon Might, and an innate pool of moves despite Bai Mu not yet possessing a Spirit Ring 6 7.

Following Bai Mu’s first Spirit Ring, Zygarde gained Extreme Speed and became able to use Jungle Healing alongside its master. It continued growing through Immortal Herb energy, Spirit Ring absorption, and training, eventually reaching its 50% Order Monitor form after the battle against the Tusked Time Hunter 14 22 37.

After consuming the 100,000-year Blue Silver Emperor Ah Yin, Zygarde split off Z2, a shiny second core whose birth caused Blue Silver Grass throughout the continent to react 42 43.

Appearance

Core Form

Zygarde’s original manifestation is a palm-sized green, cell-like lifeform with a soft body and a red hexagonal core. It is described as resembling a planarian and can perch on Bai Mu’s shoulder or hide through invisibility 1 2.

Personality

Zygarde is affectionate toward Bai Mu from its first appearance, nuzzling his cheek and responding positively to being petted. It is proud of its growth and combat accomplishments, particularly its Dragon Dog form and Extreme Speed 1 6 14.

It is also independent and decisive. Zygarde chooses Immortal Herbs based on its own judgment, intervenes when Bai Mu intends to destroy Ah Yin, and consumes the Blue Silver Emperor for its own purposes 22 42. Its view of ecological order is not gentle: Bai Mu characterizes its role as maintaining balance through “the punishment of thunderous rage” rather than compassion 22.

Despite occasionally being teased by Bai Mu, it remains loyal in battle, guards him during Spirit Ring absorption, and willingly uses its Cells and abilities to protect him 29 36.

Cell Splitting and Form Assembly

Zygarde can split new Z-Cells, deploy them independently, and merge them into stronger forms.
