Background / History

Gu Fan was born into the Gu Family. Her parents were pillars of the family who died during a mission; their property and relics were preserved and passed to her. By the time she met Zhou Er, her direct blood relatives had also died, leaving her with Fanhua Island, magical artifacts, and assets estimated at more than ten thousand Spirit Stones. 23 24

She had previously entered a Dao Companion marriage, but her husband died before they reached the bridal chamber. Though regarded as a widow, she remained physically untouched. 23 25

Because the Gu Family would not allow her considerable resources and island to leave the clan, Gu Fan needed a capable live-in son-in-law. She considered Zhou Er after Gu Jiu introduced him, valuing his youth, Late-stage Qi Refining cultivation, and talisman-making potential. Bai Zhuozhuo—her late father’s disciple and longtime protector—supported her decision to meet him. 24

After Zhou Er respectfully paid homage to her parents and reassured her that their five-year age gap did not matter, Gu Fan agreed to continue seeing him. They married one month later, with Gu Xingjian acting as witness. 24 25

Following a cultivator-robber assault on Fanhua Island, Gu Fan agreed to relocate temporarily to Bashui Immortal City. During the move, she entrusted Zhou Er with her father’s Golden Cicada Slough for safekeeping; he secretly equipped it instead of storing it. 27 28

When Bai Zhuozhuo returned from the Yunmeng Marsh Secret Realm with a severed arm, Gu Fan prioritized restoring her. She spent two thousand Spirit Stones to acquire and transplant a suitable replacement arm. 28 29

After Poison Dragon Cave occupied the region, Gu Fan lost Fanhua Island and was reduced to an ordinary island resident forced to raise poisonous creatures for Heart-Eating Pills. Zhou Er later tried to free her by giving her enough pills to last her lifetime, but she chose to consume more than a hundred at once. The resulting poisonous-insect backlash killed her. 33 34
