Background
Nan Feng claims that Tang San is not the original child of Tang Hao and Ah Yin. According to him, Tang San arrived through Possession after jumping from Hell's Peak in his previous life, then displayed independent thought, self-care, cultivation methods, and lethal inventions from an implausibly young age 112 194.
Before his current life, Tang San spent decades as an outer-sect disciple of the Tang Sect. He carried its techniques and hidden-weapon knowledge into Douluo Continent, where he developed the Mysterious Heaven Skill, trained as a blacksmith, and created hidden weapons while living in Nuoding City 101 102.
Nan Feng deliberately placed Xiao Wu and Ah Rou near Tang San, expecting the affection of a childhood companion and caring elder to make him reveal Tang Sect secrets. Xiao Wu obtained hidden-weapon diagrams over several years, but Tang San refused to disclose the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record until Nan Feng coerced him in Star Dou Forest 56 101 114 115.
Personality
Tang San is highly resilient, calculating, and difficult to intimidate. Even while exhausted after killing a Man Faced Demon Spider, he attempts to negotiate with Nan Feng, conceals errors in the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, and uses his own life as leverage 113 115.
His attachment to Xiao Wu is his clearest vulnerability. He gives her hidden-weapon knowledge readily, pursues the Titan Giant Ape despite overwhelming danger, and later threatens Heaven Dou Royal Academy with poison to force assistance in recovering her 108 111 127 128.
He also places great importance on earning his achievements himself. After Star Luo Royal Academy throws a tournament match, Tang San feels alienated from the victory and compares himself to the privileged inner-sect disciples he resented in his former life 190.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, the latter being the emblem of the Clear Sky Sect's direct line 162 192.
- Blue Silver Grass — His primary martial soul; its offensive power and control capability are criticized as insufficient against stronger tournament teams 162.
- Clear Sky Hammer — He reveals it during the tournament final after being isolated by the Martial Soul Hall Team. Its appearance publicly confirms his Clear Sky Sect connection 192.
- Twin Martial Souls potential — Yu Xiaogang expects Tang San to cultivate the Clear Sky Hammer later and attach high-age Spirit Rings to it, though this remains a future plan rather than an achieved development 168.
Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record
Tang San's inherited Tang Sect manual contains six linked techniques. He tells Nan Feng that the Mysterious Heaven Skill is the foundation required to use the other five 114.
- Mysterious Heaven Skill — Internal cultivation method used to circulate spirit power.
- Mysterious Jade Hand — Hand-training technique.
- Purple Demon Eye — Eye-training technique that produces purple light in Tang San's eyes.
- Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — Grappling technique.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Evasive footwork; Tang Hao recognizes Nan Feng's later imitation of it 114 158.
- Hundred Variations of Hidden Weapons — Hidden-weapon operation method.
Hidden Weapons and Poisons
Tang San designs and uses dangerous concealed weapons, including a Zhuge Crossbow 105 111.
- Hidden weapons are barred from Gambling Matches at the Great Soul Arena because irreversible harm can result in a permanent ban and pursuit by Martial Soul Hall and the two empires 105.
- He distributes hidden-weapon diagrams to Xiao Wu, unaware that she is passing the information to Nan Feng's side 101 194.
- He poisons Heaven Dou Royal Academy students and withholds the antidote until the academy assists with Yu Xiaogang's attackers and Xiao Wu's recovery 126 127.
- His poison threat against Heaven Dou City is serious enough that Nan Feng considers Dugu Bo unable to reliably counter it 128.
Combat Resilience
Tang San combines Tang Sect techniques, tactical thinking, and endurance beyond his rank.
- He kills a Man Faced Demon Spider despite low cultivation, though the battle leaves him severely injured and exhausted 112 113.
- His training, body tempering at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, and Spirit Ring enhancements give him exceptional resilience; he is described as capable of enduring a hundred-thousand-year Spirit Ring at Level 70 150.
- During the tournament final, he remains composed after his teammates are defeated and summons the Clear Sky Hammer rather than immediately leaving the arena 192.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Zhuge Crossbow — Concealed crossbow carried behind his back during the Star Dou Forest incident 111.
- Hidden weapons — Tang Sect-style devices developed through his blacksmithing and technical knowledge 101 105.
- Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record — His Tang Sect cultivation manual; Nan Feng forces him to write it down under threat to Xiao Wu 114 115.
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — Childhood companion and Tang San's greatest emotional weakness. He pursues the Titan Giant Ape after it takes her, yields the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record to save her, and later risks a city-wide poison crisis to recover her 111 115 127.
- Tang Hao — His father figure and public father. Tang San was forced to care for Tang Hao from a very young age; Nan Feng later challenges whether their biological relationship is genuine because of Tang San's alleged Possession 112 190 194.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and mentor. Tang San defends him through poison and coercive demands, while Yu Xiaogang repeatedly seeks opportunities to display Tang San's talent in the tournament 127 166 186.
- Nan Feng — Primary antagonist and manipulator. Nan Feng coerces Tang San into surrendering the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, takes Xiao Wu as collateral, steals Tang Sect secrets through Xiao Wu, and arranges the tournament circumstances that force Tang San to reveal the Clear Sky Hammer 114 115 192 194.
- Ah Rou — Xiao Wu's mother and a caring elder in Tang San's life. Her presence in Nuoding City was part of Nan Feng's plan to make Tang San emotionally dependent on Xiao Wu's family 56 108.
- Tang Chen — Regarded publicly as Tang San's great-grandfather through the Clear Sky Sect line, though Nan Feng disputes that relation after revealing Tang San's alleged Possession 189 194.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Nuoding City and the Tang Sect secrets
Tang San studies as a Work-Study Student in Nuoding City, works at a blacksmith shop, and develops hidden weapons. During this period, he grows close to Xiao Wu and Ah Rou, never realizing that Nan Feng placed them beside him to obtain his techniques 54 56 101 102.
Star Dou Forest
After the Titan Giant Ape takes Xiao Wu, Tang San recklessly gives chase. He kills a Man Faced Demon Spider, then encounters Nan Feng in disguise. Nan Feng rescues Xiao Wu but forces Tang San to provide the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, using repeated injury and threats against Xiao Wu to expose the manual's deliberately planted errors 111 113 114 115.
Heaven Dou poison incident
Unable to recover Xiao Wu, Tang San poisons Heaven Dou Royal Academy students and refuses to surrender the antidote without compensation. His demands combine revenge for Yu Xiaogang with an ultimatum that the academy help retrieve Xiao Wu; Nan Feng ultimately suppresses the wider incident after exposing Tang San's bluff 127 128.
Spirit Master Tournament
Nan Feng arranges for Tang San to join the Imperial Heaven Team because Tang San must appear at the tournament final. Star Luo Royal Academy deliberately loses their semifinal match, leaving Tang San disturbed that the victory came through status and connections rather than his own strength 137 190.
In the final against Martial Soul Hall, Tang San is intentionally left alone on the stage. He responds by unveiling the Clear Sky Hammer, providing the political signal for the Clear Sky Sect and Martial Soul Hall confrontation to begin 192.
Martial Soul City confrontation
After Nan Feng kills Yu Xiaogang, Tang San confronts him in rage. Nan Feng then reveals his role in Tang San's abduction, the theft of Tang Sect secrets, Xiao Wu's coercion, and the alleged truth that Tang San is a Possession entity rather than Tang Hao's biological son 193 194.
