Lunch break.
At the entrance of Class A, first year.
"Excuse me, could I ask—is Kamuro Masumi in the classroom? Which one is she?"
Kobashi Yume and Shiranami Chihiro had come to Class A together, originally planning to bring Ichinose along, but it seemed she couldn't make it.
The student they asked pointed at Kamuro Masumi, who was reviewing her notes, and said, "There, the one studying is Kamuro. Want me to call her over for you?"
"Would that be okay? Thanks!"
"No problem, it's nothing."
With that, the girl walked over to Kamuro Masumi.
Once they were out in the hallway, Amikura Mako started introducing herself.
"Hello, Kamuro. We're students from Class B, first year. I'm Kobashi Yume, and this is Shiranami Chihiro."
"So? What is it? I'm really in a hurry to study."
Kamuro Masumi sounded a bit impatient. Her studies were already rough, and now she had to be interrupted.
It wasn't like she was failing, but her situation wasn't much better either. If the exams got harder later, she'd be in trouble!
She's so harsh!
Seeing how urgent she was, Amikura Mako quickly explained.
"Actually, I heard that you're Gojo's girlfriend, so I wanted to ask about how to contact him. Or if you know where he is right now, that'd be even better!"
Huh?! Looking for Satoru?
She glanced at the two girls, who had figures like little kids, and said helplessly, "Don't bother. Satoru won't fall for kids like you."
Seeming to have been misunderstood, Shiranami Chihiro quickly confessed.
"You've got it wrong! Actually, it's like this..."
After getting the full story straight.
Kamuro Masumi started to panic!
No way?! Satoru actually has a childhood friend like that?!
What if he met her and accepted her? Would he still be with her?
But... but that girl's situation really made her heart ache. She'd waited so long, done so much, and now thought he didn't need her anymore.
She wanted to hide the fact that they weren't actually together, but she couldn't bring herself to be that cruel. If it were her in that situation, she probably wouldn't be any better off.
No! I believe in Satoru!
That was probably just a promise he made as a kid, not knowing any better. The Satoru now definitely liked her—they just hadn't confessed yet. After so long apart, there was no way he'd accept her.
"Satoru and I aren't actually dating yet. He doesn't have a girlfriend either. If you want to find him, you can check his dorm, Room 412. Or try the Cat Cafe in the commercial district—that's one of his favorite spots. I won't give you his contact info; he doesn't seem to like checking his phone."
Kamuro Masumi told the truth. She didn't believe Satoru would give her up for a girl he hadn't seen in so long. She might as well let him reject her face-to-face, so she'd stop being sad.
"R-Really?!"
Hearing that Gojo Satoru was still single, Kobashi Yume got a little excited. Her best friend had been sinking into negativity because of this—if she knew it was all a misunderstanding, she'd definitely perk right up!
"Thank you! Kamuro, you're a good person!"
After finishing her thanks, she grabbed Shiranami Chihiro and ran off.
'I trust Gojo so much, so why do I have this bad feeling?'
Feeling her heartbeat quicken, Kamuro Masumi thought uneasily.
"Mako's phone is off! What do we do?
Should we just go to her dorm and find her?"
Unable to get through no matter how many times she called, Kobashi Yume grew anxious.
But Shiranami Chihiro beside her tried to calm her down.
"Mako wouldn't do anything stupid!
Let's go find her after school; we haven't eaten yet.
We'll go together then, talk it out with her, and take her to see Gojo. That should work."
"O-okay. We'll go after school then."
Feeling a bit hungry herself, Kobashi Yume had to agree. If they went now, they'd miss the afternoon classes.
Still, for some reason, she had an inexplicable sense of dread.
After school.
Class D, first year.
The moment the teacher walked out, Hirata stood up and said, "Everyone, don't leave yet. Listen up.
The teacher said this morning that students who fail the official exam will be expelled.
So I want to organize a study group to help those who aren't doing well in their grades.
Of course, students with good grades can join too, so we can help each other better.
I hope everyone will sign up enthusiastically!"
As soon as Hirata finished, the little angel also stood up to chime in.
"Yeah, yeah! We've finally become friends with everyone, and I don't want to part ways so soon.
So I'll help out too!"
While some students were still mulling over whether to join, Koenji Rokusuke stood up and started walking out of the classroom.
"Koenji?"
Hirata called out.
But Koenji didn't even turn his head, answering with confidence.
"A study group?
That's something only trash needs.
For a beautiful man like me, it's completely unnecessary."
With that, he left the classroom.
Seeing someone take the lead, students with good grades like Horikita Suzune and Yukimura Teruhiko followed suit.
Horikita Suzune couldn't accept that she was placed in Class D and planned to ask the teacher if some mistake had caused it.
Yukimura Teruhiko, on the other hand, didn't want to waste time on such trivial matters and widen the gap between himself and Gojo Satoru.
Watching most of the high-achieving students leave the classroom, Ike Kanji and the others were about to follow, but Hirata stopped them.
"Ike, your grades aren't looking too good, are they?
Why are you leaving too?"
Hearing himself singled out and insulted, Ike's tone grew sharp.
"So what? It's just passing. Last time I just didn't take it seriously.
I can do it with a little effort. I don't need a study group.
If that guy Gojo Satoru can get full marks without studying, I don't believe I'll fail if I actually try!"
He dropped the words and hurried out, since staying any longer would only make him look like a clown—though it wasn't much different now anyway.
Seeing a batch of the underachievers leave, Hirata felt helpless but had no way to stop them.
They didn't want to study, and he couldn't force them—he didn't want a repeat of what happened in middle school!
"Hirata-kun, what should we do now?
So many classmates have already left. Should we still continue the study group?"
Seeing the boy she liked being ignored, Wang Meiyu grew a little worried.
But aside from her English scores, her other grades were average, so she couldn't help much.
Hirata glanced at the students still left in the classroom and said reassuringly, "It's fine, we can keep going for now.
Maybe they'll change their minds and come back!"
Not wanting the atmosphere to sink any lower, Hirata spoke words he knew were hollow.
I really should go talk to Gojo about this...
"Ah-choo!!"
"Huh? Is someone thinking about me?"
Gojo Satoru, who was at the Cat Cafe playing with (and tormenting) Nyanko-sensei, suddenly sneezed.
"Speaking of which, today's May 1st, right? They should be starting to regret it by now.
But no worries—next month's still zero!"
Thinking about the situation in his class, Gojo let out a mischievous laugh.
