Background / History

Mako attended Soritado Elementary School, where she was initially insecure about being “slightly chubby.” While cleaning Class 4-F alone after her duty partner abandoned her and insulted her appearance, she met Gojo Satoru. He moved aside the bangs covering her eyes, told her that her features were delicate, and helped finish the cleaning despite not being assigned to it. Gojo considered them friends as soon as they exchanged names. 21

Two months later, Gojo reaffirmed their friendship on a grassy field and jokingly described himself as an “angel investor” who encouraged girls with potential. Near the end of the term, he announced that he was leaving to go abroad. Mako later visited his former residence, where she saw his awards and understood how hard he had worked while living independently. 21

Mako enrolled at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School partly because its promised employment and higher-education opportunities could eventually let her go abroad and find Gojo. After recognizing Gojo at school, Mako rushes to find him but is devastated when Matsushita Chiaki tells her that Kamuro Masumi is his girlfriend. She withdraws from Class B and refuses contact until her friends learn that Gojo and Kamuro are not officially dating. Mako then finds Gojo outside his dormitory, and he immediately recognizes her as “Xiao Mako.” 22 23 25 26

Relationship with Gojo

Mako chooses to stay at Gojo's dorm after their reunion, despite becoming embarrassed by the implications. They later confess their feelings directly and begin showing open affection around their friends and classmates. 27 29

Gojo's Transfer to Class B

Gojo transfers into Class B by spending 20 million Private Points. Mako is delighted that he joins her class and is content simply to have him nearby, regardless of whether he chooses to help the class reach Class A. 46 51

Discovery of Gojo's True Nature

Gojo first removes Mako's fatigue with an ability he calls a divine miracle. Soon afterward, he brings her to his hidden island, reveals a massive black castle concealed by a barrier, and explains that he created it during his travels. Though shaken by the revelation, Mako accepts his godlike status and becomes eager to explore the castle with her friends. 55 61 62

Island Expedition

Mako joins Gojo, Haruka, Airi, and Yume on the island trip. She is especially interested in the castle and Shadow Army, recognizes Igris as a knight, and watches Gojo spar with Bellion, Igris, and Beru using a Vision Talisman. 79 84 85
