Background
Zhu Ying and Zheng Lingxi were nameless orphans before Gu Bai took them in, raised them on Yan Mountain, and taught them immortal arts. Zhu Ying entered the Gujian Sect roughly twenty years before Wu Ming's arrival; the hardship of the Rootless Path tempered her rebellious youth into the discipline she later demanded from others. 1 12
As Gujian Sect's first senior disciple, she voluntarily became Zheng Lingxi's first cultivation guide. Her own demonic heritage never conflicted with her commitment to the Human Emperor's teachings: she cultivated the Human Emperor Scroll to thirty-nine layers while retaining the power in her Great Demon bloodline. 12 28
Appearance
Zhu Ying is a petite young woman whose habitual severe bearing often overshadows her naturally sweet, delicate looks. She usually dresses in plain white and carries herself with rigid, formal authority. 9 92
- Willow-shaped eyebrows and a gaze described as sharp as lightning. 1
- A small frame and upright posture that nevertheless projects an imposing presence. 9 91
- Usually wears plain white robes and keeps her hair in a single ponytail. 91 92
- A gifted hairpin later allows Zheng Lingxi to style her hair into an elegant low ponytail. 92
Personality
Zhu Ying is strict, blunt, and intensely responsible. She believes discipline is a teacher's duty, applies the same harsh standards to herself, and is willing to reprimand both her master and junior sister when she believes they are acting improperly. 1 10
Her severity is paired with practical compassion. She does not approve of kindness without the ability to sustain it, but she protects those in danger, rescues stranded cultivators during missions, and encourages Zheng Lingxi to become strong enough to protect others herself. 26 28 105
She distrusts aristocratic clans and resents favoritism, preferring clear procedure and earned merit. Even when her reputation could expedite official work, she refuses to let others bypass the rules because of her name. 16 106 113
Zhu Ying is uncomfortable with public attention and often hides her appearance on the frontline to avoid admirers. She struggles to adjust to the status and scrutiny earned through her achievements, though she remains proud of Gujian Sect and deeply attached to Yan Mountain. 113 212
Abilities & Skills
Foundation Establishment Cultivation
Zhu Ying cultivates a broad orthodox foundation built around the Human Emperor Scroll, the Spring Encounter Book, and the Searing Autumn Scripture.
- Reached thirty-nine layers of the Human Dao Seal at a young age. 16 28
- Can use the Spring Encounter Book and Searing Autumn Scripture to rebuild her inner landscape, though doing so naturally would take time. 16
- Practices and teaches Gujian Sect's body-tempering methods, including the Root Stance. 10 107
- Her mana and foundation are notably superior to ordinary cultivators at the same realm. 334
Demonic Bloodline and Perception
As a descendant of a Great Demon, Zhu Ying can awaken an inherited power especially effective against Mountain Spirits.
- Her bloodline enables exceptional mountain traversal and hunting ability. 10 28
- Her perception can expose Mountain Spirit illusions and locate hidden enemies, a key reason for her dominance in Grey Needle Forest. 110
- Her Mountain Spirit hunting efficiency can exceed that of some Golden Core True Persons when her bloodline power is active. 110
- Her senses are formidable but not infallible; Zhou Ruyi's concealment divine ability evaded them. 141
Twin Water Souls
Zhu Ying wields a hairpin containing the Water Soul Twins, a magic treasure selected for her Spirit Root affinity.
- Splits two Water Soul incarnations from the hairpin. 92 118
- Fights alongside both incarnations to restrain multiple Mountain Spirits at once and prevent them from forming coordinated attacks. 118
- The incarnations ease the workload she ordinarily carries as Gujian Sect's senior disciple. 92
Transmission, Healing, and Spatial Arts
Zhu Ying employs several utility arts in support of training, travel, and battle.
- Used Immortal Touches My Crown to force Wu Ming past a Spring Encounter Book bottleneck. 15
- The forced transmission injured her inner landscape and temporarily cost her Mystic Spirit Qi. 16
- Uses the Pocket Landscape Art to create a large private training space. 110
- Casts the Lesser Origin Return Technique for recovery, including healing an injured minister during the Righteous Kingdom ceremony. 10 342

- Gold-and-white battle robe — A national-fortune-enhanced robe that temporarily raises her combat ability to approximately Golden Core peak. 366
Relationships
- Gu Bai — Her master and adoptive father figure. Zhu Ying fiercely defends him despite his damaged Dao foundation and accepts responsibility for the sect alongside him. 1 16
- Zheng Lingxi — Her junior sister and fellow orphan. Zhu Ying acts as Lingxi's strict first mentor, but is protective of her and brings her gifts from training journeys. 12 26
- Wu Ming — Her junior brother and primary disciple in the early stages of his cultivation. She moves into Xianyun Abode to supervise him, repeatedly supports his advancement, and later pursues battle merit for his Nine-Turn Foundation Establishment Pill. 10 15 108 109

Story Role / Major Arcs
Wu Ming's Entry into Gujian Sect
Zhu Ying initially treats the transmigrated Wu Ming as a suspicious outsider seeking Gujian Sect's arts. Once he joins the sect, she becomes his disciplinarian and instructor, moves into Xianyun Abode to oversee him, and chooses the Root Stance as the best foundation for his weak Spirit Root and neglected physique. 2 10
She teaches Wu Ming and Zheng Lingxi from the Human Emperor Immortal Collection Annotation, oversees Wu Ming's rapid Human Dao Seal progress, and risks injury by helping Wu Ming through his Spring Encounter Book bottleneck. 14 15
Demon Hunting Decree
After her inner landscape is damaged, Gu Bai sends Zhu Ying to the Demon Hunting Decree so that the opened earth veins can support her recovery and breakthrough. She returns after more than a month as a Foundation Establishment middle-stage cultivator. 16 25
During the decree, she hunts Mountain Spirits in Grey Needle Forest, rescues Su Qiluo, entrusts her to Yuan Wan'er, disperses a Mountain Spirit tribe, and clears the forest's mist barrier. 28
Mountain Spirit Calamity
Zhu Ying becomes the foremost battle-merit holder in Monster Hunting City through a nearly perfect mission record, daily discipline, and repeated rescues of endangered cultivators. Her reputation among rogue cultivators is based on proven merit rather than bloodline or sect status. 105 110
She competes against major clans for the Nine-Turn Foundation Establishment Pill intended to strengthen Wu Ming's future foundation. Together, the senior and junior siblings hunt mutated Mountain Spirits, with Zhu Ying's incarnations controlling the battlefield while Wu Ming attacks. 108 118
Immortal Mansion and National Affairs
Within the Immortal Mansion's Water Prison, Zhu Ying discovers the hidden route leading toward the Myriad Hearts Delusion Cocoon, then chooses to contact allies before risking a deeper exploration. 172
After reaching Foundation Establishment late stage, she is drawn into the renewed Immortal Mansion events alongside Zheng Lingxi. 334 She later serves as Auspicious Kingdom's special envoy to the Righteous Kingdom, observes its state ceremony, and returns with intelligence after being framed for the princess consort's murder. 336 342 360
At the northwestern border, Zhu Ying answers a refugee-related crisis in a national-fortune battle robe, is injured by Qiongsha's unintended technique, and recovers after Wu Ming heals her. 366 367 370
