Hearing the exclamation of his subordinates, Nigun also looked up at the sky.
When he saw the six figures flying in the air, his mood instantly turned heavy.
A Dragonoid, an Undead, a demon, a Vampire, and an unknown monster that looked like a Slime.
He was not confident that he could kill any one of them; at the very least, they all possessed Hero-class strength.
"I am Nigun, Captain of the Sunlight Scripture. What do you monsters want?"
"Why are you blocking the army of the Slane Theocracy?"
Nigun shouted loudly at the sky, declaring his identity in hopes that they would be intimidated and retreat.
But he was destined to be disappointed. The other party did not hesitate at the mention of the Slane Theocracy; they merely watched them calmly.
"Kneel."
Looking down at the human who had called the Supreme Beings monsters, Sephis said with eyes full of indifference.
At the same time, a massive wave of pressure emerged, acting directly upon the soldiers below.
"Pfft!"
Some soldiers and priests were struck by this sudden pressure, vomiting blood and fainting on the spot. The weaker ones were crushed instantly, turning into mists of blood.
The Archangel Flames also turned into specks of light and began to dissipate.
Seeing the humans falling in droves, Sephis was somewhat surprised. They were even weaker than he had imagined, so he appropriately reduced the intensity of his pressure.
He couldn't let them die just yet; after all, the three Supreme Beings still had things to do.
"Damn it."
Nigun, kneeling on the ground, looked up at the sky with a face covered in blood. This blood was not his own, but that of the soldiers beside him who had been crushed. As a captain, his strength was decent.
At the very least, he was the only one still able to kneel, rather than vomiting blood and collapsing like the other soldiers.
"This is the attitude you should have, human."
Sephis looked at the kneeling Nigun and said indifferently. He did not care about the hatred in the man's eyes; he knew the Supreme Beings would kill him soon enough.
"Well done, Sephis."
Naiyuan nodded at Sephis with satisfaction; he was very pleased with what the other had done.
The word "monster" that Nigun had used earlier had annoyed him. He had originally intended to chat with them, but that remark instantly killed his interest.
Calling him names was fine, but calling Momonga and Herohero that was not.
The six of them slowly descended to the ground and walked up to Nigun.
Watching Nigun grit his teeth, Herohero let out a malicious sneer.
"Since you called us monsters, there's no need for us to say anything to you."
"I was only planning on killing one person, but you've successfully pissed me off. I've decided now—all of you are going to die."
"What do you think, Naiyuan and Momonga? Do you want to do it, or should I?"
Herohero looked toward his two friends at his side, asking if they had any interest in doing the deed.
Shalltear, standing to the side, felt a stir of interest and was just about to step forward to say something, but Albedo stopped her without a sound.
Lord Herohero had not given them any orders, but had instead asked Lord Momonga and Lord Naiyuan. Albedo knew that even if the other two lords didn't want to do it, the person in question would handle it himself.
"I'm not interested."
"I'm not interested either. Just hand the corpses over to me intact later; I want to conduct an experiment."
Naiyuan and Momonga shook their heads, declining Herohero's invitation.
Momonga reminded him not to use any corrosion-type magic, as he still had use for the soldiers' corpses.
"Since neither of you wants to do it, I'll do it myself."
Hearing his two friends decline, Herohero walked straight into the middle of the crowd, looking down at the humans huddled densely on the ground.
"I will let you die without pain. Don't hate me; if you must hate someone, hate your captain. His words really annoyed me."
"No one is allowed to insult my friends, except for the dead."
Herohero said these words with a smile to those around him, then ignored the terrified gazes of the crowd on the ground and immediately activated his magic.
[Special Skill: Touch of Soul Corruption]
A massive statue appeared behind Herohero. A giant eyeball was embedded within the statue, its dark red pupil rotating constantly, observing everything in the surroundings.
As Herohero activated the magic, phantom tentacles shot out from the giant eye, reaching directly toward the humans collapsed on the ground.
The tentacles were formless, passing straight through their bodies to grasp at something far deeper.
The soul is, by nature, the most essential component of a person. Under normal circumstances, it should be an untouchable existence, but these phantom tentacles broke that rule, grabbing hold of it directly.
Magic, by its very nature, is something that breaks the rules.
The tentacles did not pull the souls out of the bodies upon grabbing them; instead, they dissipated upon contact, transforming into a mass of energy that enveloped the souls.
The power of decay acted upon the souls, causing them to grow dim and lusterless until they faded into nothingness.
Before anyone could even react, they had drifted off into an unconscious slumber.
"A silent death; how truly merciful, Herohero-sama."
Shalltear said in a tone of admiration.
Naiyuan and Momonga began to applaud.
"Not bad, Hero-hero. Your skill is quite flashy."
Naiyuan was no stranger to Herohero's special skill. If fully unleashed, it could affect every living thing within a radius of several kilometers.
It caused the souls within its range to decay, reaching the truth of absolute nothingness. It was a type of instant-death magic, belonging to the same category as Momonga's special skill, The Goal of All Life is Death.
"After all, my magic is primarily of the corrosion type."
"Since Momonga wants to preserve the corpses, I had no choice but to eliminate their souls instead."
Herohero said helplessly. He possessed a vast array of spells, but very few that wouldn't damage the physical body. Moreover, he had wanted to test the power of his special skill, which was why he chose to unleash Touch of Soul Corruption.
The results did not disappoint him; he was quite satisfied with the performance.
"Monsters! You bunch of monsters!"
Nigun looked on in terror at his fallen soldiers, letting out a series of roars.
He was not dead, but he knew his fate. These monsters had not killed him, which meant he still held some value. Once he had been used and that value was gone, death would be waiting for him all the same.
"That's right, we are monsters. And monsters should do what monsters do."
Herohero crouched down in front of Nigun and let out a laugh. He loved seeing this expression on someone—this look of total collapse.
"Alright, it's time for you to head out. Go keep your subordinates company."
"Remember to thank me down there for letting you watch such a good show."
Without wasting any more breath on him, Herohero reached out and grabbed Nigun's face. Accompanied by the sound of sizzling corrosion, another headless corpse slumped to the ground.
The corpse's hand had been clutching the Magic Sealing Crystal the entire time, but under the pressure of Sephis, he hadn't even had the chance to activate it before the moment of his death.
Though, it probably wouldn't have mattered even if he had (laugh).
"Hm?"
"Naiyuan, Momonga, I've discovered something interesting."
