"There's fog tonight."
"Isn't fog better for us?"
Sabaody Archipelago, District 44.
This was the only place on the island besides the naval base's port where small and medium-sized ships could dock.
Laide's Gang had paid a considerable Price to secure this spot.
Now, it was time to reap the rewards.
He wore a long sword inlaid with a Big Ruby at his waist. It was said to have been found in a Noble Manor during some chaos two months prior. However, everyone who had possessed the sword afterward had died, and now it belonged to Laide.
He didn't believe in such superstitions.
He stuck out his tongue and licked the blade. "Be patient. We'll always get prey to come to us."
"Didn't our Joker Gang take over this area precisely for this prey?"
They wore clown masks with comical smiles.
Clown Buggy and Major Arrow were celebrity figures on this island.
What a coincidence.
"What about the Navy? They used to manage this place."
"Damn the Navy!" Laide snapped impolitely.
"They don't do anything even when Celestial Dragons die!"
"That's right, they can't even catch Lord Buggy!"
"Keep it down, prey is coming!"
Laide's eyes lit up.
Beside a broad Mangrove tree, a Penguin-shaped Boat suddenly emerged from the shallow fog.
Its shallow draft indicated it was a small vessel.
"It's a little penguin!"
"Not much meat."
"We have to eat it anyway! Damn it, if we don't eat this penguin, won't our brothers have died for nothing!"
"Let's go get him!"
Laide's Clown Mask bore several distinct scars, and the eyes beneath it revealed a sinister glint.
They didn't have clear objectives like the Arrow Followers.
They had merely managed to snatch a piece or two of meat during the great chaos created by the clown Buggy, and that was how they earned the name Joker Gang.
To rob, to fight for more meat.
They only enjoyed the satisfaction of being filled and the thrill of crime.
"Charge!"
Laide roared, and from the riverbank where he was hiding, he hurled a spear tied with a thick hemp rope towards the Penguin Ship.
The spearhead was shaped like a barb. When thrown onto the Grand News's deck and pulled back forcefully, it snagged on the ship's railing.
"Joker Gang, kill!"
Laide took the lead, his clown mask on, stepping onto the two-finger-wide hemp rope like an acrobat.
Other gang members were also underwater, making gurgling sounds as they swam towards the ship's hull.
A significant reason they occupied this port was their familiarity with this kind of robbery.
The sounds of assault suddenly pierced the quiet night, but there was no response from the Penguin Ship.
Laide smoothly reached the deck at the ship's bow.
There was only one person here, holding a Kerosene Lamp.
"Hey, you there!"
Laide had intended to sneak up and stab him, but the growing confidence from his approaching comrades gave him courage.
"This place belongs to us, the Joker Gang. Have you thought about your starting bid?"
The person holding the lamp was gaunt, wearing a Purple Vest over a Wine Red Shirt.
One hand propped up his head, seemingly lost in thought.
"Damn it!"
Seeing no response, Laide immediately felt that the name of his Joker Gang was being underestimated.
He swiftly and decisively swung his blade.
The Ruby Longsword slashed from his right shoulder to his left abdomen.
"If you can't think of it, then die!"
Laide sheathed his blade and twisted around.
He tried to project ferocity in his gaze.
Killing and ferocity were the two most important things for him to control this small gang.
His subordinates, all wearing clown masks, followed him onto the deck. They looked at him, then froze.
"See clearly. This is the fate of anyone who disobeys the rules of our Joker Gang."
Laide thought they were awestruck by his ferocity and felt a surge of pride.
One subordinate, who still had a shred of conscience, raised a hand and pointed behind Laide.
He frowned and turned around.
Behind him, the person holding the kerosene lamp was split in half.
The lower half simply stood still.
The upper half slowly turned around.
The dim, yellow light clearly illuminated the deep red paint on the person's lips and face.
The clown lifted the corner of his mouth and bowed slightly.
"Good morning, my rivals."
The clown's greeting was gentle, as if he were genuinely saying hello to them.
Thump.
Laide's legs went weak and buckled. His heart pounded as if it would leap out of his chest.
The face in the wanted poster merged with the face of the person before him.
The greeting brought back memories of the live broadcast.
"Enemy of the World."
It was a perfect example of Ye Gong Hao Long.
Although they called themselves the Joker Gang, when they actually saw this madman branded as the Enemy of the World, what welled up in their hearts was not defiance, but fear of his madness.
The Enemy of the World had returned. He was back on this island!
"Why so serious?"
Buggy chuckled, forcing a strained smile onto Laide's stiff face.
"But for the sake of justice, you stabbed me, so I'll stab you back."
He picked up the long saber from Laide's hand. The other's trembling hand couldn't muster any strength.
He gauged the angle.
Then, with a shing, he struck.
A few drops of hot blood splattered onto his face.
"Mhm, I'm a man who values justice. If I say one stab, it's definitely one stab."
Buggy made a sheathing motion, just like Laide had done moments before.
At the same time, he glanced at the blade of the saber.
It was a dark red color, lacking any of the cold gleam that metal should possess. A few drops of blood slid quickly down the blade.
"Hmm, what should I do next?"
He flicked the saber dismissively, his utterly indifferent gaze sweeping over the clown masks.
His extremely cold stare rendered them completely unable to move.
Even though his expression held no trace of malice.
But fear was fear, rooted deep in their hearts.
"The Joker Gang, huh? Such a familiar name."
"If you want to live, then let's play a game."
Buggy recalled an amusing idea, and the corner of his mouth curled up.
"The first one to leave this ship, and the last one to leave this ship, will die."
A guy wearing a clown mask touched the Den Den Mushi hidden in his chest.
Then he grabbed the comrade next to him and shoved him fiercely overboard.
Red Port.
One of the few areas heavily guarded by the Marines.
Brownie lay back in his wide, comfortable armchair, legs crossed, looking quite at ease.
Ah, days without clowns were always exceptionally liberating.
He held in his hand some documents collected by the Marine intelligence department.
"God Valley's revenge, what kind of place is this?"
"Never heard of it."
On the docks, the sun had just risen, and the Bubble Cable Cars responsible for transport had welcomed their first passengers.
"Hey, why do you look so pale?"
A Navy guard pointed out a middle-aged man with an exceptionally fearful and pale expression.
He was carrying a small travel suitcase, dressed like a merchant of middle-class or above.
Hurried passengers brushed past him.
Only this middle-aged man remained, hesitating in the shadow before the sunlight.
Until the sunlight slowly caught up, falling onto his face.
Revealing an expression of relief and release.
Bang--
The already rotten corpse exploded.
