Cry! Scream! Then Die!
Watching the Gnoll Warrior who clearly knew he was being used as a sacrifice to draw his attention yet still charged at him without hesitation, Li Wei showed a flicker of surprise.
He figured that if their roles were reversed, he would have turned around and fled without a second word! He quietly decided that he would catch some Gnolls to serve as his Retainers someday.
Just as the Gnoll was about to reach him, Li Wei heard faint footsteps from his flank and behind him, causing his eyes to narrow slightly.
Before the charging Gnoll could get close, Li Wei stepped forward and slashed diagonally at the ground before him. More than a dozen Goblins that had been frightened unconscious instantly became severed limbs mixed with bloodstained gravel, raining down and burying the leading Gnoll Warrior. Whether he was alive or dead was unknown.
Li Wei had just dealt with the bait in front of him when the sound of something cutting through the air came from behind as expected. That Gnoll held its blade in both hands, apparently targeting the Steel Gate beneath Li Wei's tail, while another tried to stab at Li Wei's relatively softer belly scales from the side.
Enraged, Li Wei fiercely twisted the Hindlimb he had stepped forward with. The pile of Goblin corpses beneath his foot exploded like crushed tomatoes, and his massive body spun with it. His upward-sweeping Dragon Claw came down on the Gnoll behind him. It had just raised its longsword to block when it was crushed into a meat patty like a mantis run over by a wheel.
The Gnoll at his side watched its Tribe Members die one after another. With a blank expression, it raised its longsword, only for the Dragon Tail sweeping in from the side to sever its head. The head flew over a hundred feet before landing. The headless body crashed into the Red Dragon's pale silver-white belly from sheer momentum, then slumped down, leaving behind a streak of glaring blood.
Looks even more useful than I imagined. Li Wei thought as he flicked the blood from his tail.
Even Li Wei, who had always thought dragons fought like women tearing each other apart, now found himself thoroughly convinced.
Seeing three Gnoll Warriors throw their lives away in succession, the remaining Gnolls' resolve wavered. Several Gnolls at the front were preparing to press forward and create an opening for their Tribe Members, but the Warlord stopped them with a wave.
"Let those big idiots go first! Look for a chance to attack this Dragon Cub's weak points—his eyes, his belly, and his throat!"
No sooner had he spoken than the Gnolls heard the distinctive heavy footsteps of the Ogres, followed by their rough roars. "Dragon! It's a dragon! Hit him! Hit him! Hit him again! Burn him! Then eat him! Saruga!"
"Roar! Saruga!!!"
The Gnolls turned around to see the Ogres, drenched in blood and covered in scraps of flesh, having smashed a bloody path through the panicked Goblin horde. Maintaining the same semicircular formation, they waved Stalagmite Pillars and exhaled white mist as they pressed in from the side.
Li Wei's pupils rapidly dilated and contracted. A milky-white nictitating membrane blinked across them, and the shape of his eyeballs subtly shifted accordingly, like a camera automatically adjusting its focus. Only when he saw these hulking figures, each over three meters tall, emerge from the darkness, along with the Dilo Dwarf battle group still standing in formation at a distance, did he realize the situation was more troublesome than expected. He had no idea which good neighbor had set their sights on his pitiful little hoard.
Without hesitation, he decided to end the battle before the Dilo Dwarf battle group could approach. If the situation turned unfavorable, he would immediately make a strategic retreat. He had planned to find another place and build a new nest anyway. Besides, there was not a single coin in this cursed nest; he was unprecedentedly poor. Before leaving, he could even take a few stronger biological specimens with him. Either way, he would not lose out.
With that thought in mind, Li Wei did not wait for the restless Gnolls to attack first. He roared, beat his wings for momentum, and lunged at the leading Ogre, bringing a claw down upon it!
Bang!
A sickening muffled impact exploded across the open plains.
The Ogre that had raised its Stalagmite Pillar to withstand the blow had half its body smashed into the mossy ground. The dragon-like veins on its two thick arms burst apart, while its spine was knocked out of alignment, a section of pale bone stabbing out from its waist.
"Barbarossa is—pff!"
Seeing that it had successfully withstood a dragon's strike, the Ogre was about to roar as usual and boast of its strength to its companions. Yet the moment it opened its mouth, a bloody mist filled with fragments of internal organs erupted from within. Only then did a look of shock and agony appear on its face before Li Wei withdrew his claw and crushed its head.
Seeing its companion die, the second Ogre immediately held its Stalagmite Pillar horizontally over its head while trapping Li Wei's claws, avoiding the fate of the first. Yet the dragon's neck coiled around behind it with serpentine flexibility, and with one bite, Li Wei tore away half its skull and its right shoulder, skin and bone included! Its trembling brain was exposed beneath.
Li Wei spat out the foul-smelling flesh in his mouth. With a cold expression, he continued his bloody slaughter with claws, teeth, and tail, spinning and dancing among the Ogres like an efficient Meat Grinder, like a blooming lotus of death.
For some reason, blood and slaughter filled him with an exhilarated pleasure from the depths of his heart. Though he knew it likely came from the instincts of a dragon, a supreme predator, he also considered that this negative state, which weakened his mind, did more good than harm in his first battle. He no longer resisted it. His expression shifted involuntarily from realization, to intoxication, to wild delight!
"Roar!!! You worthless scum courting death! You dare invade the territory of Tiberius! Then you will pay the price you deserve! Cry! Scream! Then die!!!"
Wherever the dragon passed, an Ogre would fall to its knees in a daze, its round belly suddenly bursting open as organs and intestines of every color spilled across the ground. It cried out in terror, futilely trying to stuff its intestines back into the three gaping holes in its belly.
Others collapsed soundlessly into pools of blood, their headless bodies still twitching from lingering nerve impulses.
Still others, their legs twisted, crashed down from midair as blood poured from them like water through a broken dam.
The Ogres' successive deaths had also achieved some obvious results. Several places on Li Wei's body struck by Stalagmite Pillars showed visibly dented and curled scales, exposing bloody muscle beneath.
The remaining Ogres, driven mad by the combined stimulation of blood and Bloodlust, surged toward Li Wei like maniacs.
Seeing that most of the evil dragon's attention had been tied up by those brainless Ogres, the Gnoll Warlord hesitated no longer and let out a long howl toward the sky.
"For Master's glory! Warriors of the Red Fang Tribe! Charge with me!!! Awoo!"
"For Master's glory! Awoo!"
At that howl, more than two hundred Gnolls who had already been circling Li Wei and waiting for an opportunity developed fine blood vessels in their eyes. Their fur stood on end, their fangs bared, and they raced on all fours toward Li Wei at the center.
Yet they had barely drawn close when that thick tail lashed through the air.
The leading Gnoll only saw the tail covered in coin-like scales rapidly fill its vision before it fell into eternal darkness.
Pfft! More than a dozen Gnoll heads flew into the sky at once. Blood fountains shot over three feet high from the necks of their headless corpses, like fireworks welcoming death.
As the tail's devastating sweep reached its end, its tip twisted around and lightly tapped a Gnoll's chest like a long whip. A piercing sonic boom rang out, and a cone of white vapor formed from thin air, blasting the Gnoll into bloody mist that scattered outward.
With a single strike, the area within ten feet behind Li Wei was instantly cleared.
Yet even more Gnolls, their eyes red, leaped over their companions' corpses and continued lunging at Li Wei like rabid, man-eating dogs.
Clang clang, clang clang clang! Amid flying sparks came a rapid series of crisp sounds like iron being hammered.
Several Gnolls that had successfully struck the dragon's scales with their longswords stared in astonishment at the weapons broken in half in their hands, their faces revealing shock and fear.
