In the memory.
Inside a factory.
A man was bound hand and foot with iron chains, the flesh around his wrists rubbed raw from struggling.
He knelt on the ground like a dog.
In the dim factory, corpse after corpse hung above his head.
They were every important person in his life.
("Do you see it?")
The Second Will had regained its calm. With its back to Lin An, it stared fixedly at the scene in the image.
("In the latter stages of the emotional tests.")
("They were no longer satisfied with the earlier tests.")
It wore an ambiguous smile.
The Second Will slowly turned its head and looked at Lin An, who was gasping for breath.
("Next, they would test whether I would obey orders.")
("No matter what the orders were!")
As if walking into a memory.
The Second Will stepped into the fragment of memory one step at a time, its back lonely.
The scene changed.
"Kill her!"
"Whoever she is, the moment she picks up a gun, she becomes our enemy!"
His expression was vicious.
A commander stood beside Lin An, shouting angrily.
Opposite them was a frightened, crying girl who looked only thirteen or fourteen.
"Sir, she's just a child!"
"She already—"
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang out.
The commander looked coldly at Lin An.
"They've already been brainwashed!"
"On the battlefield, there are only enemies!"
The scene shifted again, arriving on a Northern European-style street.
"Protest! Protest!"
The furious crowd took to the streets behind an old man leading the demonstration.
They were protesting a consortium's inhumane Human Experiments.
"Number 99067, eliminate the protest leader as soon as possible."
From atop a high-rise, Lin An hesitated as he watched the old man walking at the front, his finger resting on the trigger.
He could not understand.
