Nature
Fifth Order represents the transition from an Awakener relying primarily on Attributes and Spiritual Energy to one whose strength is defined by Rules. Chu An describes Fifth Order as the accumulation of a large number of mastered Rules; these Rules determine combat effectiveness, utility, and restrictions more than raw energy alone 1112.
A Fifth Order's potential is largely established during Fourth Order. Becoming Fifth Order solidifies that foundation, making an improperly chosen advancement path difficult to correct later 2017.
- Fifth Orders may follow different strengthening systems, including Rule-based, physical-body, and Faith-based approaches 1583 1601.
- Physical Body System Fifth Orders advance through devouring and digesting vast quantities of energy, gaining overwhelming direct combat power at the cost of adaptability and specialized methods 1583.
- Faith-based advancement depends on accumulated Faith Power; Haine claims Deserter Fifth Orders require 100 points of faith, while impure belief creates additional burdens 1582.
- Simply exceeding Fourth Order Attribute limits or exchanging Rule Fragments does not guarantee promotion 1599. Lin An's Constitution reached 1099 points but failed to cross into Fifth Order because he lacked a required soul component 1727.
Rules and Combat Capability
Fifth Order combat is governed by the quality, quantity, and interaction of mastered Rules. A Rule can function like a vastly enhanced Skill with no ordinary cooldown, but the gap between individual Fifth Orders remains immense 1668 1745.
- Many Fifth Orders attain their rank through simplified Rules evolved from equipment effects, Talents, or Skills rather than through difficult self-mastered Rules 1668 1745.
- Ordinary War Star Levels can be comparatively limited despite their rank, while higher-ranked Fifth Orders can suppress or kill other Fifth Orders with ease 1632 1645.
- Fifth Orders possess highly tenacious vitality and retain defensive Rule power around vital areas such as the head, making them difficult to finish even after severe bodily damage 1685.
- All Fifth Orders possess Star Core fragments, which can be harvested after death and used as materials for later enhancement 1745.
- Fifth Orders can employ Rules for movement, elemental manipulation, defense, spatial control, mental interference, and other specialized effects; mobility and Rule suppression are often more decisive than raw destructive power 1668 1683.
Rule Resistance
Fifth Order Rules can suppress lower-ranked opponents so completely that overwhelming physical power becomes difficult to apply. Lin An identifies his inability to resist Rule suppression, approach targets, or match their mobility as his principal weakness against Fifth Orders 1668.
The Physical Body System can develop Rule Resistance after exceeding its normal Fourth Order limit, allowing an otherwise lower-ranked combatant to withstand or contest Fifth Order Rules 1670.
Stellar Battlefield
The Stellar Battlefield is populated primarily by Fifth Orders and treats Fourth Orders as expendable support rather than meaningful combatants. Even Fourth Order Peaks are brought in as cannon fodder, while weaker Fourth Orders may be unable to withstand the ambient coercive pressure of Fifth Order battles 1633.
Fifth Orders form temporary factions during Battlefield missions, recruit or exploit Fourth Orders, and compete for Doomsday Points. Planet Destroyer-level figures use lower-ranked Fifth Orders as subordinates, scouts, and sacrificial probes 1642 1643.
- A Fifth Order beginner can be killed by a sufficiently prepared Fourth Order, but doing so requires layered trump cards, timing, and exploitation of the target's defenses 1655.
- Killing a Fifth Order can grant Doomsday Points and unlock access to the Fifth Order exchange list once the required threshold is met 1655.
- Fifth Orders generally prioritize spending Points to delay Doomsday Progress rather than purchasing equipment, as delaying the next catastrophe is effectively an exchange for continued survival 1666.
- Fifth Order equipment can contain Rules comparable to, or stronger than, the abilities of Fifth Order users themselves 1668.
Known Fifth Orders
- Black Emperor / Black Star — Planet Destroyer-level ruler of the Black Star Empire. He initially tests Lin An's supposed strength, then offers to become his follower after concluding that underestimating Lin An is too dangerous 1657.
- Chimera Emperor — Planet Destroyer-level Chimera leader who joins the Black Emperor in submitting to Lin An's apparent Star Shattering-level power 1657.
- Flame Ghost — Fifth Order beginner who attacks Lin An after recognizing the flaws in his disguise. Lin An kills it through a combination of Reversal, clones, Thunder, and Destruction abilities 1653 1655.
- Eye of Judgment — An Inspector regarded by Lin An as an extraordinary Fifth Order and an enforcer of the Doomsday System's Rules 1570.
- Green Crystal Clan leader — Fifth Order who identifies Lin An's abnormal status as a Fourth Order Physical Body System combatant on the Stellar Battlefield 1633.
Story Role
Fifth Order is first explained to Lin An as the realm of accumulated Rules, reshaping his understanding of the Fourth Order path and the importance of mastering a meaningful Rule rather than pursuing rapid advancement 1112 1137.
Lin An approaches the realm several times before formally entering its battlefield. At Fourth Order Peak, he reaches pseudo-Fifth Order physical strength, gaining the power to cleave open the planet's core and believing that true Fifth Order represents annihilation 1445.
During the Stellar Battlefield arc, Lin An enters as a Fourth Order among hundreds of Fifth Orders. He survives by impersonating a Star Shattering-level existence, manipulating their caution, and exploiting the faction system 1643 1657. His killing of the Flame Ghost proves that a Fifth Order can be defeated from below its rank, though only at immense cost and with exceptional preparation 1655.
Later observations lead Lin An to revise his view of the realm: Fifth Orders are not uniformly godlike, and many are merely high-level Awakeners with conventional Rules and flawed foundations 1668 1745.
