History

Asgard used the Bifrost to move its armies instantly across the universe, making it one of the realm’s most important strategic powers 205 299. When Odin attempted to send James Howlett into Ginnungagap, a problem during Bifrost transport sent James elsewhere. Heimdall searched the universe for twelve days without finding him 299 301.

The Howlett Family and Sirius Legion later landed on the bridge while demanding James’s return. Their battle with Asgard’s forces advanced along it toward Valaskjalf 301 302 303. After James conquered the Nine Realms, he demonstrated that he could command the Bifrost himself, using it to transport the Sirius Legion, its starships, and the dwarves of Nidavellir 343.

Appearance

The Bifrost is a shimmering bridge suspended above the Sea of Asgard, stretching from beneath the Golden Palace’s throne to the edge of the Asgardian continent 301.

• Its transport effect appears as a vast bridge or waterfall of rainbow light 343.
• Heimdall guards its far end 292 301.

Asgardian defense

• Heimdall can partially manipulate the Bifrost and serves as a guardian of Asgard’s approach 301.
• His divine sword is connected to its power. The sword’s light became unstable as attacks strained the protective barrier around Valaskjalf 303.
• Heimdall carries the sword as the Bifrost’s key; its divine light was gone after James’s conquest 306 343.
