Kakashi was a celebrated Konoha prodigy: he graduated from the Ninja Academy at five, became a chūnin at six, and attained jōnin rank at twelve. He studied under the Fourth Hokage alongside Rin and Uchiha Obito. 54

After Obito's apparent death, Kakashi retained Obito's Sharingan as his friend's final gift and the symbol of a promise he had failed to keep. Uchiha Fugaku knew the eye should have been reclaimed under clan rules, but chose to honor Obito's wishes and suppressed objections within the Uchiha clan. 40

Kakashi became colder following the deaths of his teammates, frequently fought others after the Third Shinobi World War, and later served in the Anbu.
