Battle

Amos endured the pain of the bullets piercing his back, feeling fortunate that the ammunition equipped in the car was low-lethality standard rounds rather than expensive reinforced bullets.

Under the fire of the rapid-fire machine gun, the standard bullets tore through his skin and muscle upon impact, but they lacked the force to penetrate his tough musculature and damage his internal organs.

Of course, if he had been struck by any more bullets, he would not have been able to hold on.

However, the machine gun's attack was about to end; he reached down, knowing that Edna's amateur evasion tactics were no match for his grappling.

The moment he grabbed Edna, he pulled her behind him as a shield and sprinted in another direction.

If the smart assistant Dora in the car had been fully controlled by Edna, the machine gun would have stopped automatically, allowing Amos to hold a hostage and threaten Captain Froman into letting him leave.

These were the most logical decisions Amos could make in a split second, but there are always unforeseen variables.

His movements were too fast, and Edna had not fully seized control of the car's smart assistant, Dora; she had merely forced the machine gun to initiate an automatic tracking attack, locking onto Amos as the target.

Therefore, when Amos pulled Edna behind him, the machine gun did not stop and continued its barrage.

In a short span of time, dozens of kinetic projectiles struck Edna's body; although she was also an Armored Warrior, she was at the lowest level, and even Amos could not withstand being the focus of so many kinetic rounds.

In an instant, Edna's body was nearly shredded, and even Amos felt the bullets pass through her body to strike his own back.

"Edna!" Captain Froman's eyes turned bloodshot; the death of Edna drove him to the brink of madness.

Electronic Warfare Specialists who were also Armored Warriors were not easy to find, as the primary enemies of Armored Warriors were the Zerg, leaving Electronic Warfare Specialists with little status among regular Armored Warriors.

But in mercenary groups, Electronic Warfare Specialists were a vital choice for assault starships; without one, mercenaries might not even be able to open the target ship's hatch, let alone deal with the countless defensive systems on board.

To keep Edna, Captain Froman had used every means at his disposal, even promising to marry the plain-looking Edna, using his own charm to retain her.

Yet, all his long-term efforts were destroyed by Amos today.

Captain Froman's eyes were filled with killing intent; he unleashed all his power, throwing the Special Combat Sword in his hand.

With the force of two thousand kilograms behind it, the Special Combat Sword moved so fast it was nearly invisible; the moment the sword left his hand, Amos, who was fleeing, shuddered and collapsed to the ground.

The Special Combat Sword pierced Amos's right knee, shattering upon impact with the dense bone and turning into jagged fragments.

This left his right knee riddled with countless shards mixed with his shattered bone, pushing the pain at the wound to an extreme level.

Amos threw aside Edna's corpse and clutched his right knee, screaming incessantly.

The machine gun on the car had also exhausted all its ammunition, emitting a constant clicking sound of dry fire.

Captain Froman, holding his Level 1 War Hammer, walked step by step toward Amos, revealing a cruel smile.

"Since you dared to kill Edna, you will pay with your life!" The enraged Captain Froman shouted as he brought the Level 1 War Hammer down onto Amos's arm.

The terror of the Level 1 War Hammer was fully displayed on Amos; with every strike, Captain Froman pulverized Amos's arms, flesh and bone alike.

Amos's eyes were filled with fear and pleading, but none of it moved Captain Froman, who continued to smash Amos's arms before moving on to his legs.

In a mere twenty seconds, Amos felt as though he were in a living hell; he only wished to die quickly rather than be subjected to such torment.

If he had the time, Captain Froman would have liked to torture Amos for longer, but he knew the police would arrive soon, and he had no time left.

"Die!" He swung the Level 1 War Hammer heavily toward Amos's skull; before the hammer struck, a look of relief washed over Amos's eyes.

"Crock, have you found the target?" Captain Froman glanced at Edna with a look of regret before ignoring her and asking his Identity Bracelet.

"Captain, there is no one in this building; we have searched everywhere!" Crock's calm voice replied.

"No time left, evacuate immediately!" Captain Froman checked the time; he realized there was no chance today and gave the order decisively.

There were thirty minutes until the next location ping from the T3 Sniper Auxiliary Device, and he did not have that long to wait.

"Yes, Captain!" Crock replied in the same calm tone, then led Ed and Fisher out of the building.

"Something happened to Edna?" Ed exclaimed in shock as he saw Edna's mangled corpse.

Just then, police patrol vehicles with flashing lights were flying in from the distance; the mercenaries had no time for words, so Ed hoisted Edna's corpse, and they quickly retreated from the scene.

Cowering in the corner of the basement gym, David let out a long sigh of relief; a moment ago, a mercenary had been less than a centimeter away from him, close enough to touch him had he reached out.

The reason the searching mercenaries had not found him, and why even their life-sign sensors had failed to detect him, was because of the Shadow Servant.

Upon discovering that someone had hacked the house's Smart Butler, Emma, David had immediately commanded the Shadow Servant to pass through the ground and stealthily observe the situation outside.

He saw the security system he deemed incredibly powerful rendered completely useless, and the thick steel alloy door breached by the enemy with ease.

This was the first time he truly understood the terrors of this world; these intruders had ignored the home he considered safe.

David saw that of the five mercenaries, three had entered the house while two remained outside, and he knew that escaping the house today was impossible.

Their actions—from blocking the Skynet signal to cracking the security system and breaching the steel alloy door—all demonstrated extreme professionalism.

Furthermore, aside from the woman holding the strange device, the others all used cold weapons, which terrified him even more.

In his memory and understanding, those wielding firearms were not the most dangerous, as only Armored Warriors would abandon firearms in favor of cold weapons.

From this perspective, any attempt at resistance would be unrealistic.

His only choice was to hide himself, and he soon thought of the Shadow Servant's stealth ability.

He did not know if the Shadow Servant could hide him as well, but he had no other choice.

Therefore, as the three mercenaries entered the house, he recalled the Shadow Servant and found a corner in the basement gym, curling his body as tightly as possible to minimize his profile.

The body of the Shadow Servant was almost the same size as David's, and only by David shrinking his own volume could the Shadow Servant completely hide him.

Fortunately, David had been practicing the Eighteen Forms of Body Technique, so the range of motion in every joint was immense; he curled his body into a square in the corner of the wall.

He then connected to the Shadow Servant, controlling it to wrap around his body. Although he had this idea, he did not know if the Shadow Servant could fully cover a body as large as his.

Under his control, the Shadow Servant flew onto his body, and something unexpected happened: the Shadow Servant's form began to shift from a humanoid shape, covering the exterior of his body like a fluid.

Even the parts where he made contact with the ground were covered, as the Shadow Servant passed through the floor to maintain all-around coverage of his body.

The three mercenaries searched at a rapid pace; they had likely done this sort of thing many times before, and the entrance to the basement was discovered in no time at all.

Through the perspective of the Shadow Servant, David watched as the mercenary searching the basement gym continuously scanned the area with the instrument in his hand. Even though the gym's layout was very simple and could be seen at a single glance, the mercenary still used the most rigorous standard search method.

This mercenary was Crock, and the instrument in his hand told him there were no signs of life here. Yet, according to the tracking from just half an hour ago, the T3 Sniper Auxiliary Device had been right here, and yet it could not be found either.
