In David's perception, the Shadow Servant passed through the ground with ease. But then it seemed to encounter a membrane in its path, blocking its descent.

Fortunately, after the Shadow Servant pushed down hard, it forced its way through the membrane.

This was the first time David had encountered anything like this while controlling the Shadow Servant. In all the environments he had tested before, neither building materials like steel and stone nor finishing materials like glass and wood had been able to stop it from passing through.

He had always thought the Shadow Servant's ability to pass through things was unlimited. Today, however, he discovered that this unknown membrane could restrict it. Though it had managed to get through in the end, if the membrane had been any thicker, the Shadow Servant would have been stopped.

The Shadow Servant emerged into a basement even larger than the room above. A basement like this had no place in a middle-class residential neighborhood.

Strange patterns had been painted across the basement walls.

The patterns connected to form a continuous design that surrounded the entire basement.

Through the Shadow Servant, David could clearly sense that the strange patterns seemed to contain some kind of power. They weren't any kind of Security System commonly used in the Interstellar Federation. Even David's knowledge of Electronic Warfare couldn't explain them.

But after encountering the membrane, David guessed that it had probably been created by these strange patterns.

David also saw Trainer Jeremy. He was standing before an Altar, where a completely black statue had been placed. It had no face, and even its body was hidden beneath a wide cloak.

Trainer Jeremy glanced at the Identity Bracelet on his wrist, apparently checking the time.

The Shadow Servant hovered silently near the basement ceiling, waiting. David
