The Situation
Tens of millions of Zerg surged toward Guardian Star in dense formations, and the battle unfolded across a region ten thousand kilometers wide.
With reconnaissance devices deployed in advance, the long-range main guns could accurately target their objectives.
Of course, given how densely packed the Zerg were, as long as the general direction was correct, almost no shot would miss.
This was an apparently unfair war. The Zerg, possessing only short- and mid-range combat capabilities, were continuously bombarded and slaughtered by powerful long-range weapons without even seeing a single enemy.
Yet the Zerg relied on their numerical advantage to keep advancing. Their objective was not to attack the warships of Guardian Star, but to clear away the reconnaissance devices along the way.
Every reconnaissance device floating in space was an eye of the Guardian Star Federation Fleet.
The Zerg had controlled Federation officers on War Star and knew many of the warships' weaknesses, so naturally they had methods tailored to them.
Without reconnaissance devices deployed ahead of time, this sort of ultra-long-range strike in space could only wait until targets entered a warship's active scanning range. That would greatly increase the danger to the entire fleet.
"Nine thousand kilometers lost!" General Francis said in a deep voice, his expression grave.
Over countless years of fighting the Zerg, the Federation had never encountered Zerg employing such clear tactics in a space battle.
Tens of millions of Zerg used the bodies of their companions in front as cover, solely to advance farther and destroy as many reconnaissance devices in this direction as possible.
All reconnaissance devices nine thousand kilometers away had been destroyed, reducing the fleet's attack range by one thousand kilometers—and that distance was still shrinking.
"General, should we use the giant Planet Destroyer Cannon to clear them out?"
