Wednesday, early morning.
Lynch was suddenly jolted awake by a notification from the Stone of Myriad Phenomena while he slept. He first kept his eyes closed to sense his surroundings, and only after confirming that no one in reality had done anything to him did he touch the Stone of Myriad Phenomena with his consciousness.
"What? The pathway has been roughly generated, and the Sequence 9 potion formula is already out?"
Lynch was overjoyed, nearly roaring out loud.
This was so exciting that it made his head spin. He had been here for a week; Klein had already become a Beyonder, while he remained an ordinary person, which had truly been weighing on him.
He immediately touched the Stone of Myriad Phenomena with his consciousness again to carefully examine the pathway it had generated for him.
The Stone of Myriad Phenomena had even given his pathway a name: Myriad.
Sequence 9, Mimic.
Formula: Any Sequence 9 formula from any pathway can be consumed.
Ability: Can mimic a Beyonder one has come into close contact with, allowing the use of that pathway's Sequence 9 abilities.
Rules: Can only mimic one pathway at a time; switching the mimicked pathway requires a one-hour cooldown.
As for the cost: He might pick up some of the habits of the Beyonder who provided the pathway during the mimicry process; he must remain vigilant against becoming the other person and persist in his own self to maintain clarity.
Lynch looked at this pathway and felt a bit at a loss. It seemed quite strong and certainly suited him, but the side effects were a bit heavy.
To have to maintain clarity at all times and risk picking up the other person's habits during the mimicry process—wasn't that a bit too terrifying?
What if something went wrong...
Forget it, fortune favors the bold. Who consumes a potion without any issues anyway?
Besides, if he asked the Stone of Myriad Phenomena to regenerate it now, he didn't know how long it would take, and he was desperate to become a Beyonder.
This is the one.
Moreover, the way this potion was consumed was quite interesting.
Consuming a potion from any other pathway would allow him to advance. If he stayed in the Church of the Goddess, wouldn't that mean he wouldn't have to purchase any potions himself?
Lynch was very satisfied with this point.
He let the Stone of Myriad Phenomena continue generating the subsequent pathways, then jumped out of bed, feeling content, and headed to the washroom to freshen up.
But just as he entered the washroom, he sensed someone appearing behind him.
It was the man in the black robe.
"Why are you here again? Don't you know Klein is a Beyonder? He might discover you!"
Lynch couldn't help but speak out.
The man snorted, finding Lynch's ignorance amusing.
"A Beyonder won't know someone is here unless they open their spirituality!"
But Klein was different from others!
His spirituality was relatively strong; he might have already sensed something.
If Klein had become a Clown, he might already be standing right here.
"Fine, since I'm not a Beyonder, can you tell me, respected Beyonder, what you've come here to do?"
Lynch asked in a dissatisfied tone.
"I'm here to inform you that everything is prepared. I expect Upton will head out at noon. At that time, you are to notify Klein and have him bring the Beyonders over!"
The man spoke in a businesslike manner.
After finishing, he prepared to leave, but he glanced at Lynch and couldn't help but sneer, "You aren't so scared that you can't sleep, are you?"
Could Lynch let him insult his character?
"I'm excited! I can finally do something for the Lord. I must succeed this time and never let the Lord be shamed again!"
Lynch tilted his head, putting on an expression of utter loyalty that said, you lot know nothing, which made the man's mouth twitch.
Damn it, if he were this good at talking, maybe he could be in charge of something too!
"I'm leaving. Stay here by yourself!"
The man didn't intend to say anything more to Lynch and jumped straight out through the window by the washroom.
Lynch washed his face and tidied himself up before opening the washroom door.
Just as he expected, Klein was standing at the door, holding a revolver.
He knew he would definitely alert Klein. If that guy didn't have any reaction when someone had snuck right up to his door, that would be the strange thing.
"What's going on? I just felt my spirituality stir."
Klein held the revolver and looked behind Lynch.
There was no one inside the washroom.
"Don't mention it. It was the person from the Big Meat Church I reported to the captain earlier. He came to tell me they are about to do something big. If I really want to join, I should head to the address he requested when he notifies me."
Lynch wiped his face, looking somewhat worried.
He then shook his head. "Klein, please ask for leave for me for a while. I feel like something is off, so I plan to find someone to keep an eye on them. I might be a little late this morning."
Klein put down his revolver and hesitated. "Do you need me to go with you?"
"No, I don't think you'd want to have your pay docked along with me. Besides, there shouldn't be any danger, and I won't be having anyone tail a Beyonder. I'll only have them watch my informant; I suspect that informant might know something about this."
Lynch returned to his room to change his clothes, nodded at Klein, and left the house.
However, as he stood at the doorway, he bowed to Klein with a look of apology.
"Sorry, I will resolve this matter as soon as possible. I won't let this kind of danger come knocking again."
Klein opened his mouth, though he hadn't actually thought about that at all.
Besides, Lynch hadn't done it on purpose; if anything, this guy had only been dragged into these matters because of him.
Looking at the solemn expression on the man's face, he felt a bit unaccustomed to it for a moment.
"It's fine..."
He awkwardly squeezed out a word. Just as he wanted to say something to comfort the guy, he saw that he had already walked away.
Why be so mushy? If Rozanne saw this, who knows what she'd say!
Klein muttered under his breath, though he was quick to head to the washroom to get himself ready.
Once everything was set, he gripped his revolver and boarded the public track carriage, heading toward Zolant Street.
Meanwhile, Lynch, who had made Klein so incredibly nervous, was currently eating breakfast in Mountbatten's office with the man himself.
Mountbatten's men had already received word that Upton's recent movements were quite extensive and that he seemed to be contacting people; the business they were conducting was set for today.
Thinking about the second-class merit he would receive once this matter was accomplished, Mountbatten wished he could throw a grand banquet for Lynch to enjoy.
He had just hinted to Lynch that he had a fine girl at home—his younger sister, who was about the same age as Lynch—and that perhaps Lynch could meet her.
However, Lynch had refused.
Mountbatten himself wasn't handsome in the slightest, so his sister couldn't possibly be good-looking.
So, even though Mountbatten swore up and down that his sister was beautiful, Lynch acted as if he hadn't heard a word.
"Trance, really, you haven't seen my sister. She truly is the most beautiful girl in our neighborhood!"
Heh, is your sister the only girl in your neighborhood?
"Alright, enough of that. Our relationship doesn't need to be maintained through things like this. Mountbatten, I make friends with you, not your sister. Don't talk about your sister as if she were a commodity. I believe in the Goddess, and I also believe that a girl's opinion is more important when it comes to marriage!"
