Background / History

Xuan Zi and Mu En found the parentless Mu Xuanheng while flying and sensed their martial souls being suppressed by the child. They brought him to the Sea God Pavilion, where he was raised until his martial soul awakening. 1

He performed Mu Xuanheng’s awakening ceremony and was astonished when Chaofeng suppressed his Godly Taotie Bull. After learning of Mu Xuanheng’s Contract martial soul, Xuan Zi joined Mu En in keeping both martial souls secret for the child’s protection. 1 2

When Mu En accepted Mu Xuanheng as an apprentice, Xuan Zi became the boy’s senior brother. He assisted with testing Mu Xuanheng’s physical condition and later acted as his escort for soul-ring hunts. 2

Personality

Xuan Zi is blunt, impatient, and highly eccentric. He often acts before considering consequences, casually drinks and eats during serious situations, and repeatedly leaves Mu Xuanheng in dangerous locations as a form of “training.” 3 4 9

Despite his carelessness, he is sincerely protective of Mu Xuanheng. He worries over the boy’s dangerous soul-ring choices, celebrates his achievements, and accepts punishment when his negligence results in Mu Xuanheng being severely injured. 4 5 12

His unreliability is widely recognized by Mu Xuanheng and Mu En. Mu En repeatedly confines or reprimands him after he prioritizes other matters over his duty to protect the younger disciple. 12 59 61

Xuan Zi helps awaken Mu Xuanheng’s Chaofeng martial soul, recognizes its ability to suppress his own martial soul, and becomes Mu Xuanheng’s senior brother after Mu En accepts the child as a disciple. 1 2

First Soul Ring Hunt

He takes Mu Xuanheng into the Star Dou Great Forest, leaves him exposed to danger, then intervenes when needed. Although concerned about the risk, Xuan Zi cripples the Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear so Mu Xuanheng can obtain its first soul ring. 3 4

Second Soul Ring Incident

Xuan Zi leaves Mu Xuanheng alone in the Star Dou Great Forest while having an episode, which exposes the boy to Evil Soul Masters. Mu Xuanheng is later rescued in a severely injured state, and Xuan Zi accepts seclusion as punishment. 9 12

Return from Seclusion

He emerges stronger but still short of the Limit Douluo realm. He spars with Mu Xuanheng, learns of the orange soul ring produced by Xue Di’s contract, and recommends that Mu Xuanheng enroll at Shrek Academy. 15

Extreme North Escort

After Mu En anticipates Mu Xuanheng’s attempt to seek Bing Di, Xuan Zi intercepts him outside Shrek City and accompanies him to the Extreme North out of concern for his safety. 22

Continued Disciplinary Problems
