Background / History
Jingtian was originally a scientist from Earth. Retaining memories of both his past life and the Douluo Continent’s future, he awakens after reincarnation as a newly hatched Blue-Ringed Octopus soul beast. Knowing the future enslavement of soul beasts under Tang San, he resolves to survive, grow stronger, and resist that fate. His first act is to kill and consume a lobster-like predator with his innate venom. 1 2
He establishes himself in a grotto inherited through his mother’s memories, where a crack emits ancient toxic energy. There, he cultivates, builds traps and warning systems, and begins gathering intelligence on nearby prey. 2 3
After falling into the Annihilation Vortex Core during his battle with Xiaobai, Jingtian is believed to have died; a body attributed to him is later preserved in a Soul Guidance Freezing Base. Nevertheless, a highly concealed soul beast appears at the Myriad Poison Pool shortly afterward, and Jingtian subsequently acts on the continent through the humanlike identity of Kraken. 63 67 99
As Kraken, he enters human society in disguise, gathers intelligence on the continent’s major powers, and uses rewards, negotiations, and targeted assassinations to pursue resources and eliminate dangerous opponents. 136 138 165 173
Appearance
Jingtian is an octopus-shaped sea soul beast whose body changes substantially as his cultivation and poison source evolve.
- Blue-ringed octopus body.
- Ring patterns become deeper and mutate during his fifteen years in the Return Ruins. 27
- His dark blue rings develop dark-purple coloration and gold-edged patterns after absorbing Return Ruins energy, rare metals, and special minerals. 27
- Develops advanced camouflage and environmental mimicry. 6 31
- Regrows a damaged tentacle during recovery. 20
- Forms a Ninth Tentacle after integrating the Scorpion Tail Soul Bone; it improves control, strength, and energy conductivity. 37
- The Ninth Tentacle is pitch-black, moves with exceptional speed and precision, and can channel highly corrosive, silencing poison. 37 46
- When operating as Kraken, he conceals his soul-beast nature beneath a humanlike exterior, generally wearing hooded dark clothing. His concealed eyes are described as ice-blue, with a deep purple light visible when his poison power is activated. 136 169 230
Personality
Jingtian is cautious, analytical, and relentlessly pragmatic. He prefers reconnaissance, traps, poison, and calculated retreats over direct confrontation, particularly when faced with stronger enemies or human soul masters. 5 8 15 33
His pursuit of strength is ruthless. He systematically hunts rivals, destabilizes local ecosystems for resources, and exploits distrust between enemies to eliminate them separately. 9 12 14 However, he is capable of strategic cooperation when it serves a larger struggle against human hunters, as shown by his alliance with the Demon Whales. 46
Following his emergence as Kraken, Jingtian applies the same patience and long-term planning to human society. He conceals his identity, gathers political intelligence, makes transactional alliances, and waits for decisive openings before striking. 136 139 169 173
Abilities & Skills
Innate Poison
Jingtian’s foundational ability is a potent neurotoxic venom, lethal enough to kill predators despite his initially small body. Devouring prey enhances its potency and replenishes his energy. 1 2
- Kills and incapacitates soul beasts through venom injection.
- Gains additional venom traits by consuming powerful prey. 11
- Refines and adapts his toxins to different enemies and environments. 12
- His poison source later gains the dead, withering characteristics of Guixu energy, making it more difficult to perceive and dispel. 32
Devouring
Jingtian consumes soul beasts’ life essence, spirit power, and useful traits to advance his cultivation.
- Restores energy after expending poison. 2
- Absorbs cultivation and attributes from prey, including lightning resistance from the Silver-Veined Thunder Eel’s remains. 16
- Uses devouring to consolidate territorial dominance and rapidly advance his cultivation. 12 14
- Can consume the vitality, blood, soul power, and poison origin of defeated human soul masters through his Scorpion Tail-derived appendage. 173
Camouflage and Concealment
Jingtian specializes in avoiding detection, blending into terrain, and masking his presence from stronger opponents.
- Uses advanced camouflage to ambush prey from reef and stone environments. 6
- Mimics the Return Ruins environment through Poison Source Spirituality while near death. 31
- Develops Guixu Assimilation, a concealment technique adapted from Guixu’s dead energy. 32
- Uses the Ninth Tentacle to deceive Sea God Island’s monitoring arrays. 37
- Can conceal his aura and mimic his surroundings well enough to evade Dugu Bo’s direct investigation at the Myriad Poison Pool. 67
- Maintains a humanlike Kraken identity that obscures his soul-beast origin even while dealing with major human factions. 136 169
Poison Domain
A domain-type poison ability obtained through the Scorpion Tail Soul Bone’s power. 18
- Suppresses and controls groups of enemies. 20
- Enhances Jingtian’s own poisonous attacks. 20
- Allows him to silently eliminate the Iron-Spined Arrow Wolf pack. 21
- Is powerful enough to defeat three Soul Douluos alongside his tentacle attacks. 46
- Can be suppressed by a Title Douluo’s Sea God Domain. 28
- Develops a pseudo-domain quality within the Return Ruins that can pollute energy and briefly distort small-scale spatial attributes. 27
- Its Nirvana Deep Cold manifestation makes seawater viscous, lowers the temperature, erodes enemy constructs, and slows opponents’ bodies, thoughts, and soul power. 46
- As Kraken, he can deploy a gray poison domain that disrupts Sea Spear Douluo’s concentration and creates openings for allied attacks. 99
Poison Seal
A stealth-oriented poison technique acquired during his metamorphosis. 18
- Enables concealed poison attacks. 20
- Supports ambushes and covert kills rather than open combat.
Poison Erosion
A higher-level poison principle associated with structural disintegration. 18
- Erodes and breaks down targets’ structures. 20
- Is used alongside Poison Domain during his combat testing against the Iron-Spined Arrow Wolves. 21
- Can attack the energy nodes and weak points of enemy domains and barriers. 28 35
Dan-Devour
Jingtian’s ultimate poison, developed after consuming a Shadow Phantom Jellyfish. It targets life force and soul imprints rather than relying solely on physical injury. 22
- Allows him to consume a 9,800-year Abyss Maw Shark and reach 10,000 years of cultivation. 22
- Silently kills a Soul Emperor aboard a reconnaissance ship. 23
- Gravely poisons Luo Kes, forcing Sea God Island to seek a cure. 28 31
- Includes Armor-Piercing Dan-Devour, which erodes Xiaobai’s divine power. 50
- Includes Soul-Dispersing Plague, used to delay Sea Ghost Douluo and elite sharks. 50
- Uses Deadly Dan-Devour with Guixu Assimilation to infiltrate Xiaobai’s defenses. 51
- Can be prepared as specialized, ultra-long-range projectiles for low-consumption, covert point-killing. 47 48
- As Kraken, uses Dan-Devour to interrupt Dugu Bo’s Martial Soul Avatar and Medusa’s Gaze by striking his eye at the instant his defenses are incomplete. 173
Scorpion Tail
The complete integration of the Scorpion Tail Soul Bone grants Jingtian a scorpion-tail-derived poisonous extension, employed by Kraken in humanoid form. 37 99
- Can release highly condensed poison attacks capable of instantly killing Soul Douluo-class opponents caught unprepared. 99
- Its tail strike can pierce an enemy’s body and initiate direct devouring of their vitality, soul power, blood, and poison origin. 173
- Its poison is dangerous enough that Sea Spear Douluo must use the majority of his strength to immediately purify even a brief exposure. 100
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Water-Condensing Pearl — Obtained from the Blue Crystal Starfish; accelerates cultivation, stabilizes his mind, and later assists his recovery. 7 20
- Scorpion Tail Soul Bone — Ancient soul bone whose venomous inheritance transforms Jingtian’s poison source and ultimately becomes his Ninth Tentacle. 18 37
Relationships
- Dark Gold Demon Whale — Initially hostile; submits after Jingtian saves and heals it. They form an alliance against shared human enemies. 46
- Demon Whales — Jingtian rescues three whales from Soul Douluos and Demon Soul Great White Sharks; they acknowledge him as their leader. 46
- Moyuan — An injured Deep Sea Demon Whale whom Jingtian names and saves. Moyuan becomes the principal communicator and intelligence link of Jingtian’s whale force. 40 47
- Tieshan — An 83,000-year-old Demon Whale subdued by Jingtian and incorporated into his core force. Tieshan later acts as a powerful subordinate and political-military proxy on the continent. 47 433 446
- Xiaobai — Enemy and leader among the opposing sharks. Jingtian kills her deputy Baiji, poisons her divine power, and critically wounds her with Deadly Dan-Devour. 50 51
- Luo Kes — Sea Spear Douluo of Sea God Island, poisoned by Jingtian’s Dan-Devour during their clash in the Return Ruins. 28 30 31
- Luoxius — Sea Horse Douluo who ambushes Jingtian during his attempt to absorb the Scorpion Tail Soul Bone. Jingtian retaliates with a desperate Dan-Devour strike, leaving Luoxius severely poisoned. 35 55
- Sea God Island — Persistent hostile force that hunts Jingtian, deploys surveillance around his former lair, and seeks his poison source for a cure. 26 31 33
- Dugu Bo — Initially senses an unknown concealed soul beast near the Myriad Poison Pool and later recognizes Kraken’s inhuman nature. Kraken subsequently kills Dugu Bo with Dan-Devour and Scorpion Tail devouring. 67 169 173
- Ning Fengzhi — The Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect Master who seeks to recruit or cooperate with Kraken as a potential Title Douluo-level asset. Kraken later approaches Dugu Bo while claiming to have been sent by Ning Fengzhi. 139 165 169
- Silver-Veined Thunder Eel — A powerful early threat Jingtian initially avoids; its corpse later provides cultivation foundation and lightning resistance. 5 16
Story Role / Major Arcs
Rise in the Western Silent Sea Abyss
Jingtian begins as a vulnerable hatchling, establishes a fortified grotto, and develops his hunting methods through poison, camouflage, and traps. He defeats the Blue Crystal Starfish, acquires the Water-Condensing Pearl, and outmaneuvers the three-beast alliance by turning its members against one another. 2 6 7 8 9 11
Territorial Hegemon
After devouring the Red-Armored Spike Turtle and Variegated Jellyfish, Jingtian eliminates seven further threats and claims sole control over his sea area. He then expands north, exhausts the local ecosystem through aggressive hunting, and becomes a thousand-year soul beast after killing the Single-Horned Gilded Beast. 11 12 14
Conflict with Human Soul Masters
Witnessing human soul masters kill the Silver-Veined Thunder Eel confirms the danger humans pose. Jingtian later develops Dan-Devour, reaches ten thousand years of cultivation, and turns the hunters’ expedition in the Storm Sea Abyss into a slaughter through stealth attacks and Poison Domain assaults. 15 22 23
Return Ruins Survival
Sea God Island’s response forces Jingtian to flee into the Eternal Silence Return Ruins. Over fifteen years, he refines chaotic energy and advances to seventy thousand years, but a confrontation with Luo Kes leaves him near death. He survives by entering suspended animation, using the Ruins’ energy and environmental mimicry to escape pursuit. 26 27 28 31 32
Soul Bone Integration and Demon Whale Alliance
Jingtian returns to reclaim the Scorpion Tail Soul Bone but is ambushed during absorption. After twenty-eight years of dormancy, he wakes as an eighty-thousand-year soul beast with a Ninth Tentacle, escapes Sea God Island’s arrays, and later allies with the Demon Whales against human hunters and Demon Soul Great White Sharks. 34 37 46
Whale Pod Formation
After saving Moyuan and other endangered Demon Whales, Jingtian establishes a developing whale force built around Moyuan’s intelligence network and Tieshan’s combat strength. Through rescues, targeted hunts, and the absorption of additional Demon Whales, he advances toward the ninety-thousand-year high stage and gains a dependable anti-human force. 40 46 47
Battle with Xiaobai
Jingtian uses specialized Dan-Devour variants to kill Baiji, poison Xiaobai, and disrupt her forces. Severely injured, he launches a final counterattack with Guixu Assimilation and Deadly Dan-Devour before falling into the Annihilation Vortex Core. 50 51
Purported Frozen Remains and Reemergence
A body attributed to Jingtian is transported through the Extreme North and placed in deep-freeze storage. The cold slows its dissipation and causes its remaining predatory instinct to turn inward, reinforcing the body’s structure. 63
Despite this presumed death, a concealed soul beast soon evades Dugu Bo at the Myriad Poison Pool. Jingtian later reappears as Kraken, retaining Dan-Devour, Poison Domain, Guixu-derived concealment, and the Scorpion Tail inheritance. 67 99 169
Kraken’s Continental Operations
Operating in human guise, Kraken collects intelligence on the continent’s political order, spreads a high-value bounty to locate a Title Douluo suitable for his advancement, and establishes contact with the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. 136 138 139 165
His confrontation with Dugu Bo demonstrates the full danger of this identity: Kraken patiently waits for an opening, interrupts Dugu Bo’s strongest techniques with Dan-Devour, pierces him with the Scorpion Tail, and devours his power and Origin Poison. 169 173
Trivia
- Jingtian’s earliest strategy is explicitly called “Hunter in the Stone.” 6
- His growth often prioritizes qualitative poison evolution over simple increases in cultivation age. 18
- He used a detached tentacle as a sacrifice and bridge to connect with the Scorpion Tail Soul Bone’s inheritance. 34
- His alliance-building method is transactional: he offers rescue and protection, but demands allegiance, intelligence, or strategic value in return. 40 46
- The name Kraken is used for his later concealed operations among humans. 99 136
