Ping'an City had once been a remote town on the border of the Heaven Dou Empire. Yet the name Ping'an had done nothing to keep the town safe—or, at the very least, to protect its Spirit Hall.
A filthy figure in a black cloak clutched a hammer the size of a small mountain and muttered, "The Spirit Hall owes me. I'll collect a little interest first."
With that, he swung the hammer down at the Spirit Hall in the city.
The Spirit Hall and the surrounding homes were reduced to rubble by that single blow. Everyone beneath the hammer perished.
In just one month, more than a dozen other cities suffered the same fate.
Inside the Pope Palace in Spirit City, Bibi Dong read the report brought to her and gritted her teeth. "What a fine Clear Sky Sect. What a fine Tang Hao. Do they think the Spirit Hall has no one to stand up to them?"
The Worship Hall had naturally received reports that Spirit Halls throughout the empire had been attacked.
"Big brother, the one who attacked our Spirit Halls must be Tang Hao," Golden Crocodile Douluo said to Qian Daoliu.
"Indeed."
"Then, big brother, why don't you let me deal with Tang Hao myself and put an end to this threat once and for all?"
"Grandpa Golden Crocodile, the continent is so vast. Where would we even look for Tang Hao?" Qian Renyu asked.
"Hmm..."
"But even if the monk escapes, the temple won't. Tang Hao may be able to run, but the Clear Sky Sect can't," Qian Renyu said with a hint of amusement.
"Yu'er, Tang Chen and I made an agreement. We can't destroy the Clear Sky Sect yet."
"Old man, you're a gentleman who keeps his promises. But that doesn't mean everyone else is a gentleman."
"Besides, who said anything about destroying the Clear Sky Sect? Plenty of people saw that the attacker was a Titled Douluo wielding a Clear Sky Hammer. All we're asking is for the Clear Sky Sect to hand over one of its Titled Douluo."
Qian Daoliu didn't object.
And so, Qianjun Douluo and Xiangmo Douluo set out for the Clear Sky Sect's secluded location, accompanied by Demon Bear Douluo, Ghost Leopard Douluo, and Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo, whom they had requested from Pope Bibi Dong. There were six of them in all.
Meanwhile, the Spirit Hall Daily ran a series of prominent stories claiming the attacker was a Titled Douluo from the Clear Sky Sect. The sect was immediately condemned by everyone.
When the people of the Clear Sky Sect heard that Tang Hao had attacked the Spirit Hall, they couldn't help celebrating. Even Seventh Elder Tang Lie, who had always despised Tang Hao, thought he had done a pretty good job.
Some of the sect's younger disciples even began treating Tang Hao as an idol.
Just as the Clear Sky Sect's leader, Tang Xiao, and the five elders were discussing Tang Hao's attack on the Spirit Hall, a Titled Douluo's presence surged toward the sect.
Tang Xiao and the five elders were all Titled Douluo, and they sensed the presence at once. They flew out of the sect.
"Where did you come from, you bandits? How dare you cause trouble at the Clear Sky Sect? You must have a death wish!" a disciple guarding the sect shouted at Qianjun Douluo and the others.
But soon, he fell silent. Ghost Leopard Douluo had made sure he would never speak again.
"Where did you come from, you bandits? How dare you kill a disciple of the Clear Sky Sect?" Seventh Elder shouted.
Tang Xiao and the five elders soon arrived.
As soon as he got there, Tang Xiao felt the immense pressure emanating from Qianjun Douluo and Xiangmo Douluo. It seemed the two Spirit Hall enshrined elders had grown even stronger. The other four were Titled Douluo as well, and their strength was probably above level ninety-five.
"May I ask what brings you two seniors to the Clear Sky Sect?" Tang Xiao said.
"Hmph. Recently, a Titled Douluo with a Clear Sky Hammer Martial Soul has been slaughtering our Spirit Hall Soul Masters and civilians, leaving countless dead and wounded."
"We've come today to demand an explanation from the Clear Sky Sect," Xiangmo Douluo said.
"Tang Hao attacked your Spirit Hall. Go find him," Seventh Elder said.
"Isn't Tang Hao one of your Clear Sky Sect's people?"
"Tang Hao was expelled from the Clear Sky Sect long ago."
"If he was expelled, why didn't you cripple his Martial Soul?"
"This..."
"Enough nonsense. The attacker was a Titled Douluo from your Clear Sky Sect. Hand him over!"
"Tang Hao attacked your Spirit Hall. Go find him."
"Talking won't get us anywhere. The attacker was a Titled Douluo from your Clear Sky Sect. Hand him over and issue a public apology, and we won't make trouble for your sect."
"Didn't I tell you? It was Tang Hao who attacked your Spirit Hall! Tang Hao! Go find him!" Seventh Elder was growing frantic.
"Seventh, that's enough," Second Elder said.
Anyone with eyes could see what was going on. The Spirit Hall knew Tang Hao was the attacker, but insisted that a Titled Douluo from the Clear Sky Sect was responsible. They wanted the sect to sacrifice one of its Titled Douluo and issue a public apology—to humiliate the Clear Sky Sect.
"Senior, is there no other way to settle this? After all, our ancestor Tang Chen and the Angel Douluo had an agreement," Tang Xiao said, stepping forward.
"Hmph. If the Great Enshrined weren't a man of his word, your Clear Sky Sect would never have survived to this day."
"Enough talk. Are you going to hand him over or not?" Xiangmo Douluo said, pointing his Coiling Dragon Staff at Tang Xiao.

"A man may be killed, but not humiliated. The Clear Sky Sect isn't to be trifled with either." Tang Xiao immediately summoned his Martial Soul.
"Leader, don't!" Second Elder stopped him.
"Our sect has barely held on until now. We've worked so hard to reach this point—we can't throw it all away. And besides, can we even win?"
"Second Uncle..." Tang Xiao looked at Second Elder with tears in his eyes, unwilling to accept what was happening. He had already guessed what his uncle intended to do.
"Leader, don't be like this. I've lived long enough. But you'll have to bear the humiliation of making that public apology."
"Your Spirit Hall wants the Clear Sky Sect to give you an explanation, don't you? Then I'll give you one." As he spoke, Second Elder severed his own meridians. His body fell, and his breath ceased.
"Second Uncle!"
"Second Brother!"
"Second Elder!"
A wave of grief swept through the Clear Sky Sect.
Tang Xiao knew this was no time to grieve. He got to his feet and said to Xiangmo Douluo, "I hope this explanation satisfies you, senior."
Xiangmo Douluo said nothing. His elder brother, Qianjun Douluo, spoke in his place. "Tang Xiao, put away your useless anger. You should be grateful our Great Enshrined is a gentleman who keeps his word."
"And don't forget the public apology."
"What exactly do you mean by a public apology?"
"It's simple. You, Tang Xiao, the Clear Sky Sect leader, will go to Spirit City. Starting at the city gates, you'll kowtow with every step until you reach the Pope Palace. Then you'll apologize to the entire world."
"You!"
"What is it, Tang Xiao? Will you agree or not?"
"I... I... agree."
"Good. You know what's best for you. We're leaving." With that, Qianjun Douluo led the others away.
The Clear Sky Sect erupted in curses against Tang Hao. They hurled every insult they could think of, as if they didn't share the same ancestor.
Tang Xiao paid them no mind. After taking care of Second Elder's funeral, he went to Spirit City, kowtowing with every step from the city gates to the Pope Palace, where he publicly apologized.
It didn't take long for the news to spread across the Douluo Continent.
Tang Hao heard about it too. He wanted to take revenge on the Spirit Hall, but he was afraid of bringing disaster upon the sect. All he could do was shout helplessly, "Spirit Hall, I will destroy you!"
