Background

Cui Shuo is Cui Hong's grandson and the Cui Family's most prominent younger-generation cultivator. Born to a concubine, he was bullied by his other brothers while young and developed little attachment to the family. His outstanding talent earned him entry into the Heavenly Fire Sect, where a peak master accepted him as a disciple; his friendship with Third Elder Wang Ping's grandson further elevated his standing. 13 18

At nineteen, Cui Shuo had already reached the Gangqi Realm and returned to Tianwu Main City ahead of the Immortal Sect gathering to use his influence to help more Cui Family members enter Immortal Sects. He regarded the Wu Kingdom as insignificant and publicly claimed that even Emperor Long Ao would give him face. 13

His arrogance falters before people he considers untouchable. When Zi Xun'er invokes Wang Ping's name and reveals herself, Cui Shuo immediately withdraws his threat to destroy the Myriad Phenomena Pill Shop and flees. He later becomes deeply afraid of Qin Yu after being overwhelmed in their first battle, relying on armor, pills, and borrowed Swamp Fire to improve his odds. 13 30 50

Cui Shuo is also vindictive and willing to target weaker people connected to his enemies. He agrees to Cui Liu's request to kill Qin Yu for Spirit Stones, attacks Qin Xue, and signals Qin Yong to humiliate her inside the pill shop. 14 15 22

Story Role / Major Arcs

Conflict with Myriad Phenomena Pill Shop

After Qin Yong loses both arms, Cui Shuo leads three hundred soldiers to Myriad Phenomena Pill Shop and orders it demolished. Zi Xun'er invokes Wang Ping and reveals herself, causing Cui Shuo to abandon the threat and retreat in panic. He subsequently punishes Qin Feng for provoking the shop and warns the Cui Family that its owner is someone even Wang Ping cannot offend. 13 14

Attack on Qin Yu's Residence

Persuaded by Cui Liu's promised reward, Cui Shuo goes after Qin Yu. He disregards Long Yu's warnings, throws her aside, and attempts to kill Qin Xue when she clings to him to protect Qin Yu. 14 15

Qin Yu emerges in the Mad Demon First Transformation and battles Cui Shuo. Though Cui Shuo uses his Gangqi, flaming sword arts, and repeated pills, Qin Yu gradually overwhelms him as his power rises through injury. Qin Zhan intervenes before Qin Yu can kill Cui Shuo, saving Cui Shuo but breaking his arm. 16 18

Duel with Qin Yu

Following the battle, Cui Shuo publicly claims that he and Qin Yu merely sparred and attempts to portray Qin Yu as the aggressor. Long Yu exposes the lie, and Qin Yu challenges Cui Shuo to a life-and-death match at the western dueling arena five and a half months later. Cui Hong is forced to accept the challenge. 19

Cui Shuo spends the following months fearing Qin Yu's growth. Cui Hong gives him the Sky Silkworm Soft Armor, while Cui Shuo later acquires Wang Ping's poisonous Swamp Fire after suggesting it be used to poison Qin Yu rather than kill him immediately. 30 50

Return to Tianwu Main City
