Background / History

Xiong Tatian is an immature member of the nearly vanished Mad Bear Clan. By his clan's reckoning, he is not yet eleven and a half years old; Mad Bears count ten ordinary years as one. He says he spent 110 years at home being physically tempered in medicinal cauldrons, followed by two years away from his clan. His immature spiritual intelligence leaves him with the mentality and impulsiveness of a child despite his immense body and strength 25 30.

He meets Qin Yu and Li Tianji in the Land of Beast Burial while seeking Ancestor Ape Blood. Delighted that Qin Yu recognizes the Mad Bear Clan, he immediately calls him “Big Brother Qin” and insists Qin Yu join their search 24 25. He keeps an immature Abyssal Golden Lizard, Little Black, as a training partner and carries it in a beast pouch 25 26.

After Qin Yu drinks from Xiong Tatian's gourd and is overwhelmed by the blood's immense Blood Essence, Xiong Tatian spends three days sparring with him at Qin Yu's request. Though he suppresses his strength, he eventually uses half of it and is startled by Qin Yu's growing power and endurance 26 27.

During the search for Ancestor Ape Blood, Xiong Tatian repeatedly clashes with Li Tianji over the latter's failed or uncertain divinations. His impulsiveness creates a major crisis when he mistakes an Azure Wolf King's cub for a dog and carries it away, drawing the wolf pack's pursuit 30 32. When Ling Yao later threatens the group over an earlier intrusion into the Jade Pool Sect's back mountain, Qin Yu orders Xiong Tatian and Li Tianji to leave while he remains behind with the wolf cub as leverage 33 37.

After the Land of Beast Burial explodes, Xiong Tatian believes Qin Yu has died. He and Li Tianji search the ruins unsuccessfully; overwhelmed by guilt, Xiong Tatian blames Li Tianji and parts ways with him 45. He travels to Tianwu Main City to find Qin Yu's family, only to unexpectedly reunite with Qin Yu at the Myriad Phenomena Pill Shop 44 45.

Xiong Tatian is straightforward, volatile, and openly emotional. He says exactly what he thinks, does not hold grudges for long, and is easily provoked by insults or perceived disrespect 29. His incomplete mental development makes him reckless: he can mistake a wolf cub for a dog, provoke powerful enemies, or start arguments without considering the consequences 32.

Despite this immaturity, he is deeply loyal. Qin Yu's recognition of the Mad Bear Clan quickly earns his affection, and he consistently addresses Qin Yu as “Big Brother.” When he believes his carelessness may have caused Qin Yu's death, he declares that he owes Qin Yu his life; when Tong Yunfei insults Qin Yu, he attacks without hesitation 25 39 44.
