Background / History

Heibai first manifests when six-year-old Zhao Mu awakens a mutated Iron-Eating Beast martial soul within the Vajra Bear family. He immediately demonstrates unusual independence by disappearing after awakening to eat purple bamboo, alarming Zhao Mu because a martial soul’s fate is linked to its master’s. 1

Though initially referred to only as the Iron-Eating Beast, he insists on having an imposing name. Zhao Mu ultimately names him “Heibai,” and their fist bump establishes the pair’s partnership. 4

Heibai agrees to train and cultivate with Zhao Mu in exchange for a larger share of their food. His consumption of Thunder-Striking Bamboo and other rare materials transfers energy to Zhao Mu, creating a symbiotic method of cultivation and soul-ring acquisition. 6 7

While travelling north with Zhao Mu, Heibai reveals that he can locate valuable resources and leads him through miasma to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He admits he had concealed this treasure-hunting talent out of laziness. 13

Heibai ordinarily resembles a round, black-and-white panda-like Iron-Eating Beast with dark eye patches, black ears and limbs, and a white face, neck, and belly. His appearance changes dramatically with each soul-skill form. 5 21
