The progress or results of an interest group's research each semester formed part of the students' end-of-semester assessments at Lostic University. Applications to form an interest group had to be reviewed by the appropriate staff before the group could begin operating. Of course, students could also join an older student's interest group and have their final assessment for the semester based on that.
At Lostic University, these groups often came up with all sorts of wild ideas, and as a result, the university's experimental buildings were blown up during the permitted afternoon hours. Students and outsiders alike had come to call them the Demolition Crew.
This was especially true of the chemistry and materials science groups. Energy ores and chemical reagents often reacted violently, so shattered windows were an everyday occurrence. Bringing down half an experimental building was considered a minor incident.
"So, Venicia, have you decided what kind of interest group you want to register?"
As they shopped for furniture at the mall, Toriya asked Venicia for advice. Toriya had only barely made it past Lostic's admission cutoff, whereas Venicia was a well-rounded talent in almost every subject and had consistently maintained a strong record in sports as well.
