Biology and Classification
True Dragons and Dragon-Blooded Beasts
- Membership is not determined by appearance alone. Degenerate dragon species and dragon-blooded soul beasts are not automatically recognized as true dragons 9.
- Language and reproduction distinguish true kin. Below the hundred-thousand-year threshold, excluded dragon-blooded species cannot communicate with the Dragon Clan and are reproductively isolated from it. Acquiring human speech after that threshold does not change their classification 9.
- Rus Wang is an exceptional accepted member. Although fundamentally a Seer Elf, the system makes dragons recognize him as true dragon kin. His ability to communicate and produce offspring with Thalassa reinforces that acceptance 3 14 23.
- Bloodlines do not simply weaken with age. The Light Dragon King states that time cannot erode a dragon’s bloodline strength 49.
Physiology and Reproduction
- Thalassa has a Western-dragon physique. Rus Wang’s descendants retain that standard body plan even when evolving toward forms resembling Lord of Blades Rus Wang, whose own build is more wyvern-like 1 81.
- Dragons can possess different elemental and specialized attributes, including water, darkness, fire, earth, light, lightning, wood, and mental power 6.
- Territorial aggression can override mating considerations: Thalassa initially approaches Rus Wang cautiously because male dragons may attack unfamiliar females entering their territory 3.
- Rus Wang’s shared care of hatchlings with Thalassa is described as extraordinary by the standards of dragons outside Zheer Continent 1.
- Dragon–elf offspring exist. Toriya can assume Elf, Dragon-born Elf, and True Dragon forms, although her Seer inheritance makes her exceptional rather than representative of every hybrid 41 90.

History
Ancient Rule and the Dragon God’s Fall
The Dragon Race once ruled the soul beasts under the Dragon God. After creating the Divine Dragon Realm, the Dragon God spread his race across multiple planes. Draconic rune arts helped establish habitable planetary environments, supplementing the sacrifices of Mountain Dragons, which became mountains and continents to support their kin 6 78.
The attempted transformation of the God Realm into a God Star ended in catastrophe. The dragon crown prince died, the Dragon God descended into madness, and the ensuing conflict killed thirteen of eighteen God Kings while devastating the God Realm. The Light Dragon King had noticed abnormal behavior from the Time and Space Dragon Kings but failed to prevent the prince’s death 19 134.
The Dragon God’s final restrictions then obstructed the race’s recovery: beasts could not attain godhood without the Dragon God’s reappearance, while Heavenly Tribulations repeatedly killed the dragons who might have revived the race 3 19.
Dragon Valley’s Survival
Dragon Valley Forest preserved an unusually stable dragon-led order. Successive rulers maintained discipline among powerful soul beasts, and the second-strongest true dragon normally inherited leadership when the reigning Dragon King died. The Light Dragon King survived as a dragon soul and preserved knowledge of the ancient catastrophe 19 38.
This succession system eventually broke down as tribulations eliminated the dragons above five hundred thousand years of cultivation. Human expansion and soul-hunting intensified the crisis. When Rus Wang entered the Dragon Valley World, its entrance had not been opened for four hundred years 22 38.
Refuge on Zheer Continent
Dragons formed the largest proportion of the intelligent ten-thousand-year soul beasts accepted by Rus Wang on Zheer Continent. Many refugees reached it through flight; others survived dangerous sea crossings. Rus Wang’s protection of the Elves initially confused Thalassa, but she came to recognize the value of allies who cultivated without taking soul-beast rings 3 6.
With the Light Dragon King’s support, Rus Wang relocated Dragon Valley’s true-dragon and sub-dragon tribes to Zheer’s Nanshan Rainforest and coniferous forests. None of those individual tribes exceeded three hundred members. The new settlements brought dragons into sustained contact with Elves, including shared childhood friendships and Mental Contracts 11 30.
The surviving communities established the Dragon Clan Committee. Before his final campaign against the God Realm, the Light Dragon King designated Rus Wang as his successor and acting patriarch, stipulating that he should become the new patriarch if the Silver Dragon King failed the race 53.
Revival and the Star Dou War
Rus Wang’s million-year breakthrough transformed respect among the Zheer dragons into unwavering loyalty. They accepted him as their new Dragon God, while the Silver Dragon King’s earlier order to sever ties with the entire continent deepened the division between the two dragon communities 80 81.
When Star Dou Forest requested aid, Rus Wang intervened and reorganized its dragons and fierce beasts into the Star Dou Field Army. His reinforcements included sixty hundred-thousand-year or pseudo-hundred-thousand-year dragon kin and three battalions of Elves 83 86 87.
The subsequent war united more than a thousand dragons against human forces. Longstanding clan grievances were set aside, but the victory carried severe losses: more than three hundred dragons died, and many survivors lost the cultivation benefits of Mental Contracts when their partners sacrificed themselves to protect them 95 106 112.
Other-World Survivors and Reconciliation
Toriya encountered Xiao Long and Chen Xiaoyue, envoys seeking the new Dragon God on behalf of the Ancient Plane’s Wind Dragons. Unlike Douluo’s dragons, their clan had maintained generally cooperative relations with humans, including a longstanding alliance with the Rongyang Chen Clan 110 119.
The impending collision of the Ancient and Douluo planes brought Rus Wang into cooperation with the Gods of Life and Destruction. He offered refuge to members of several races and accepted responsibility for past Dragon Race wrongdoing rather than demanding unconditional restoration of its former authority 139 140.
A later agreement placed the Ancient Plane under God Realm jurisdiction while preserving local administration, and recognized the Dragon Race’s settled surface territory in the Douluo Plane. Rus Wang also accepted the Golden Dragon King’s continued confinement until he could control his inherited power without losing his reason 148.
Recovery in the Locke Empire
By the ninth millennium of Levant, the Locke Empire spanned the stars, and its humans, Elves, beasts, and dragons constitutionally recognized Rus Wang as their common emperor. He created the New Dragon God Plane to give dragons sufficient living space without provoking territorial conflict with other imperial races 150.
The Wind Dragon King reported that its population was approaching two million. Dragons that awakened intelligence were sent to the Douluo Plane for physical and academic education under senior dragons and Beast Race instructors before entering imperial society 150.
Population
| Period / Group | Recorded Population | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Heavenly Sun Dragons | Over 5,000 38 | Their established presence helped Dragon Valley Forest retain order after the Dragon God’s fall. |
| Dragon Valley tribes before relocation | No individual true-dragon or sub-dragon tribe exceeded 300 30 | Their small populations made relocation feasible despite the energy cost of spatial transport. |
| Before the Star Dou war | Fewer than 2,000 dragons of all ages 85 | The Silver Dragon King cites this as a major weakness in confronting the God Realm. |
| Star Dou wartime force | More than 1,000 dragons 95 | Included Star Dou dragons and Rus Wang’s descendants eligible to fight. |
| Postwar recovery | Over 2,000 112 | Mostly newborns; adult numbers had increased by only a two-digit amount against more than 300 wartime deaths. |
| New Dragon God Plane | Approaching 2 million 150 | Growth through natural reproduction over several thousand years. |
Government and Culture
Dragon Clan Committee
- Founded jointly by Dragon Valley’s true dragons, survivors from another continent, and dragons already sheltered on Zheer 53.
- Full members must possess genuine cultivation exceeding one hundred thousand years. Pseudo-hundred-thousand-year strength obtained through Mental Contracts does not qualify 53.
- Holds administrative authority and coordinates the race’s future, military preparations, and technological work 53 71 87.
- Initially recognizes Rus Wang as Dragon King and the Light Dragon King as the communities’ common patriarch 53.
Language and Education
- Dragon Language nearly becomes extinct outside Dragon Valley Forest; most Star Dou fierce beasts use human language and writing instead 85.
- Rus Wang studies it under the Light Dragon King and makes it a compulsory, examined foreign-language subject for Elf students before university 85.
- The integration of Star Dou Forest includes a Dragon Script curriculum and appointed teachers, restoring access to the race’s inherited knowledge 86 89.
Changing Political Values
The surviving dragons do not share a single attitude toward humans or the gods. Zheer’s refugees distrust soul-ring hunting, while the Wind Dragons’ experience includes productive human alliances. Rus Wang increasingly emphasizes coexistence and accountability; the Golden Dragon King instead regards his diplomacy and partnership with the Elves as humiliating concessions 37 119 148 150.
Abilities and Skills
Bloodline Power and Evolution
Dragon bloodlines influence cultivation potential and hierarchy, but Rus Wang’s Seer-derived lineage bypasses important ancestral restrictions.
- Rus Wang and his descendants are not suppressed by the Golden or Silver Dragon King’s bloodlines 23 80.
- His descendants can self-evolve toward forms resembling Lord of Blades Rus Wang while retaining Western-dragon physiques 81.
- He proposes a redesigned Dragon Ascension Pillar to extend comparable bloodline independence to other dragons 81.
Runic Secret Arts
The race’s former power depended on accumulated knowledge as well as physical strength. The Light Dragon King preserves techniques capable of hiding draconic activity from the God Realm 36.
- Concealment and spatial movement: Zi Ji learns divine concealment, short-range teleportation, and pocket-dimension creation 39.
- Spatial restraint: Rus Wang immobilizes the Demon Empress with a dragon secret technique 73.
- World construction: Creation Freedom Heaven uses Rus Wang’s blood to create a separate space containing his battle with the Silver Dragon King 90.
- Environmental engineering: Ancient rune arts reshape habitats and can reverse a continent’s climate, but such control remains vulnerable to larger planetary disturbances 78 131.
- Soul oaths: An oath inscribed with heart blood on a rune scroll can shatter a dragon’s soul if violated 87.
- Mental communication: The Golden Dragon King communicates through his seal with Thunder Dragon using a secret technique 150.
Mental Contracts
Mental Contracts underpin cooperation with the Elves and can raise a dragon to pseudo-hundred-thousand-year cultivation.
- Barus improves the contract method to deepen Elf–soul-beast bonds 11.
- Contract-based fusion can grant an Elf draconic features and greatly increased combat strength, though sustained use consumes substantial soul power 51.
- Contract-enhanced cultivation is distinct from genuine cultivation for Committee eligibility 53.
- A partner’s death can remove the associated enhancement, as demonstrated by returning Star Dou veterans 106.
Relics and Technology
- Dragon God Core — Contains a god-position space and origin divine power and can briefly elevate its holder’s mental power to God King level. Rus Wang ultimately becomes the Second Generation Dragon God without relying on it 36 148.
- Dragon God’s Tear — Enables draconic summons and assistance through spatial channels. Its effectiveness depends on the user’s mental power, and it requires at least seven days to replenish after use 36.
- Dragon Ascension Pillar — Helps dragons cross the ten-thousand-year boundary and maintain bloodline purity. Barus studies its construction and tests Rus Wang’s blood against the Light Dragon King’s as a core material 36 38.
- Dragon Armor — Ancient protection against the shockwaves of divine battles. Simplified rune-based versions become standard equipment for dragons and Elves 71.
- Dragon King weapons — Surviving artifacts include the Light Dragon King’s Dragon-Slaying Blade, the Dark Dragon King’s sword and shield, and the Water Dragon King Spear inherited by Toriya 35 90 110.
- Communication and transport tools — Rus Wang introduces soul-guidance communication devices and teleportation arrays to coordinate the Dragon Valley communities 24.
Relationships
- Rus Wang — Accepted outsider, protector, acting patriarch, and eventual Second Generation Dragon God; establishes the race’s new cultivation refuge and later habitat 23 53 81 150.
- Light Dragon King — Preserves history, techniques, and relics; arranges Rus Wang’s succession and sacrifices himself to give the race time to recover 36 51 53.
- Silver Dragon King — Formerly recognized as Dragon Race leader and common lord of soul beasts. Her conflict with Rus Wang over leadership and a compromised dragon egg ends in defeat and the sealing of her power 11 86 90.
- Di Tian — Senior Black Dragon and Star Dou commander who ultimately places the race’s survival above unconditional loyalty to the Silver Dragon King 86 87.
- Golden Dragon King — A potential source of immense military strength but also internal conflict; opposes Rus Wang’s diplomatic direction and plans to escape confinement 85 148 150.
- Zheer Elves — Principal allies, contract partners, and fellow imperial citizens. Their wartime sacrifices earn the dragons’ lasting respect 37 106 150.
- Humanity — Relations range from exploitation and war on Douluo to longstanding cooperation in the Ancient Plane and eventual shared citizenship in the Locke Empire 12 95 119 150.
- God Realm — Former enemy and threat to the clan’s inheritance; later reaches a negotiated settlement with Rus Wang under Life and Destruction 23 140 148.
